Kratos negs Arthur morgan in terms of writing. Emotions, impact, theme, goal, ideology, complexity and depth goes to Kratos. It's crazy how all Arthur morgan has just shown is a bit of regret for all of his wrong doings and then we went on to seek redemption and displayed a bit of the fear for the uncertain. That's all he did if we look at the bigger picture. Kratos has displayed an intensified version of everything that Arthur displayed in his character, besides a millions of other things that Arthur didn't show. Kratos and all the other gods had to succumb to their fates and the adverse circumstances that engulfed him. None of the gods were completely at fault for Kratos had yo go through. When kartos and his army was subdued by the barbarians, he had no other choices to make but to call over ares to help him in return for his soul. He had to Trade his soul Cuz if he hadn't done that teh barbarians would take over Sparta and destroy the civilians and children. He made the decision that he thought would be the best for him and Sparta, completely unaware that Ares would make him do all evil for him. Not to mention thar Ares had his own goals as well and he was in favor of the mortals, because he didn't want the Olympians to indulge in their lives and do L not bother them. Ares was basically a villain who had a good intention for the greater good of people but he was that kind and generous of a god which is why he thought it is okay to kill and collect the souls of some mortals to become more powerful so that he takes down zeus and the mortal realm remains undisturbed by the gods as a result of it. This is what area actually did in the og mythology. Take down Olympus, cause the death of all other gods and ask zeus to draw boundaries between the mortal world and other celestial realms. In the games ares wanted to collect as many soul as possible and forced Kratos to do that, Kratos had to do this despite his severe reluctance, because he feared ares would destroy his homeland if he defies him. He went on to do as ares directed him to until one day he inadvertently slaughtered his own family and had to quit. Not to mention he was even cursed that he'd be haunted by the same nightmare in which he murders his daughter and wife till the end of his life. He left the service of Ares as approached by Athena on behalf of all Olympus to make another deal with Kratos to free him from his trauma memories in return for killing Ares. He did everything the did him to do, summoned the Pandora box, fight ares. In the middle of the fight ares reiterated the same event in his pocket dimension where Kratos killed his family. He fought like hell with thousands of his clones to save them, but it was just and illusion after all the same thing repeated. Kratos lost hope regained hope, took up the blade of Olympus, fought and destroyed ares. Despite the job being done the gods refused to forgive him from his sins and free him from his past. Kratos tried self harming himself by jumping of the biggest cliff but was bought back and throned as the new god despite his reluctance. His life was already full of pain, agony but the gods didn't allow him to end it anyways. Kratos later chose attack olympus because he hated them for misleading him and didn't follow through their promises, he even lost homeland Sparta Cuz zeus invade and destroyed it. He did in an attempt to do that, came back to life, trying killing zeus again but accidentally killed Athena instead and learnt that zeus was his father and they didn't want him to know that to avoid their fates which was sons living his father. The losses he suffered, the pain and agony he had to go through had driven him to a brink of insanity. He was already quiet unhinged Cuz of all combined result of his upbringing, the losses he suffered including having to kill his mother turned into a monster at a very young age. That turn him into a selfish monster with no bounds, Cuz of which in the upcoming events in gow 3 he destroyed everything he saw in front of him, even those innocent humans that were just asking for help and the posiedon princess who didn't deseithe treatment she got. This actually displayed how godhood aggravated his life and how destructive unbridled wrath and being subjected to betrayal multiple times could be. Each character contributed to the suffering of the other, whilst each thought what they're doing is the right thing. Kratos was so blinded and mad driven by rage that he cared about nothing but seeking revenge on zeus fir everything he took away from him and for all his sufferings, and he didnt want to realize it until after he managed to kill zeus. TO this day he carries the guilt and burden of having been the cause of destruction of Greece and was banished by the remaining gods (he isn't aware that the power of hope tfat he realized was summoned by the remaining mortals including his daughter calliope who was in the afterlife /elysium with the elysium dwellers, they made it out of elysium and started rebuildong Greece). All thar regret mad gulit haunts him to this day, although if we look at the circumstances that engulfed him at the beginning, he's decision we're justified but the slaughter of thousands of people who didn't deserve to die still burdens him. Also I forgot mention that while he was still fighting against Gods bcak in Greece he had a reunion with his younger brother Deimos who was abducted by ares then they were kids and was tortured in the underworld until Kratos founds him the both faced off against thanatos, the creator of dominain of death, bur Deimos died in that battle. Kratos managed to kill thanatos and was in complete disbelief to see his brother died immediately after reuniting with him after decades. A similar event unfolded when he sacrificed all his powers and weapons to get into the elysium fields, the afterlife of people that lived a novel life to seek his daughter who died because of his actions, but had to leave her behind immediately to suppress the threat caused by persephone and atlas. He had to endure so much pain that he lost himself in the never ending process of being manipulated, betrayed and used by every one to fulfill their own purposes and motives and a never ending battle to seek revenge that he didn't keep a check on what he was becoming a monster who destroys everything he touchs. TO this day Kratos repents on everything he did on his past, some of his misdeeds were justified because those were committed with the intention to protect his people and others were for no reason but blind rage consuming him. Kratos's life in the bigger picture depicts :- his lows on life where he was forced to kill people just like low honors Arthur used to be, but a much more intensified version of it all. His story depicted :- - how fucked up the world we live in truly is, where everyone wants to achieve their motives and goals regardless of what impacts it might make on others or what it's costs would be. - how nobody cares about your worth but what you can do for them and are ready to dispose you off life you never mattered when they no longer need you. - how unbridled wrath could push you towards a brink of insanity and blind you such that you lose a track of who you are and turn into an evil. - how consistent deprivation of love and suffering losses over and over again can cause you to turn into a monster, because we all are humans after all, Kratos was a mortal was well and the gods of Olympus were portrayed so as to have humane qualities as well. - how revenge brings you no peace and leaves you dwelling on the past for all the misdeed you had to commit to make finally seek revenge and how letting go wouldn't led to so much of destruction. - how one could still quite recover from self hatred and gulit if given a greater PURPOSE to his life, just like kratos got a new purpose to raise and protect Atreus and another purpose to serve as the god of war in the Norse realms and to help people rebuild the realms after ragnarok. - Also show cases how complex and deep of a character Kratos has been from the very beginning. And why Arthur morgan despite being a great character himself doesn't compare to Kratos. - subtly Show cases purposes of other characters like ares who's goals were justified but chose the wrong way around. - how destruction of Olympus had some good sides to it as well, because now people can rule themselves and there won't be any godly order to force them to worship them. - how Kratos healed from his past to become a better person to raise Atreus despite having no clue on how to raise a god and despite being fearstruck that Atreus might go down the same path that he went down through. - how redemption awaits those to choose to climb back from the abyss of repeated losses, pain and solitude (pretty much applies for Arthur, but better applies for kratos ). - Everything is this world tenda to go against each other because everyone think their own actions and beliefs are justified. - we should never give up on who were are, kindness is much more powerful than a sheer will to dominate others(applies to the scene where Kratos decide to not attack the midgard inmates when he found out they are mortals an Odin left there to die). - How there always remains hope to begin again and do what's right.
