Released in 2019 on the Macro album, it's about the fighting that started in 2014, but sadly, it still applies today. Musically , great song, love how low the growls get. One of my favorite Jinjer songs overall.
Since you really liked the imagery, another Jinjer video with great imagery, that you'll probably like, is the title track to the 2021 "Wallflowers" album.

    • @VocalCitizen
      @VocalCitizen  4 месяца назад +4

Wallflowers will be filmed this week.
I love the arrangement of this song. The underlying rage mixed with desperation, wrapped in a silky package that'll kick your ass.
That's the best way for me to articulate it.

  • @hemlock399

Phew, I shed a few tears on this viewing.
3 of 4 band members are from Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine (Vlad is from Kiev), which has been at the epicentre of the conflict with Russia not only since 2022, but since 2014. (Even earlier than that, to be honest. The population of the region are Russian-speaking, and despite overwhelming regional support for Ukrainian independence from Russia at the time of the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, many powerful Russians seem to have never really let go of the region, and have been stoking "separatism" for many years.) This song was released on Jinjer's 2019 album, Macro, and was inspired by the outbreak of conflict in 2014. There's a great interview with Tatiana in Kerrang from 2021 in which she describes her experience of the start of the war in her home region ("Outlanders: How Jinjer survived a revolution and built their own world").
The characters in attendance at Tati's psychotic jazzy tea party are very much up for interpretation. On an earlier reaction to this song, J.F. Fisher wrote "I think the symbolism of the tea party is that the civilian rabbit has to sit down to tea with the conquering dog who says he'll protect the rabbit from the slain cat, but the rabbit is still afraid because dogs eat rabbits too." I like that interpretation, & I think it fits in well with the fact that Tatiana depicts the extreme right wing ultra-nationalist militias who played a leading role early in the armed resistance to the Russian-backed separatist militias in eastern Ukraine (starting in 2014) as dogs in her anti-fascist rant "Sit, Stay, Roll Over". (Tatiana plainly despised both sides in that conflict.) You'll note that by the end of the tea party, all 3 of the masked characters are laid out on the floor.
"Sit, Stay, Roll Over" & "Home Back" are 2/3rds of a trilogy of Jinjer songs which are direct reactions against the 2014 outbreak of armed conflict, the 3rd being "When Two Empires Collide", which is about the fact that the Ukrainian people are victims of an imperial power struggle between Russia & the US. All 3 songs are very powerful, & are musically highly distinct from each other.
I recommend that you react to "Sit, Stay, Roll Over" official music video. "When Two Empires Collide" is also a great song, but it doesn't have an official video. However, there's a cool fan-made lyric video for the song with footage from war-ravaged Ukraine intercut with footage of a live performance of the song at a small venue. But when you are a witness to a crime and simply remain silent about it, you are covering up the criminal, and "not getting involved in politics".

But the occupiers leave us no choice, because if the ruzzia stops attacking, the war will end, and if Ukraine stops defending itself, Ukraine will end.

This is their first refugee experience imagined through the eyes of a child. The three masked characters are from a Ukrainian children fable. The war in Ukraine has been going on far longer than most people know. To continue your Jinjer journey I recommend reacting to "Bad Water" (Live, Napalm Records) and then take a little detour to Tatiana's collaboration with 12 Foot Ninja.

Eugene tells when the Russians invaded in 2022 how he was escaping in a car down a road doing 100 miles an hour with artillery shells falling all around blowing random things up. This band has been through the ringer. Even before that and Russia's Annexation in 2014, they had a car accident in which they drove off a road siding and dropped 30-40 feet. They thought they were going to die but they didn't. The band started in middle of nowhere towns in rural Ukraine and just kept working, playing, touring over and over until they gained momentum. They put their life into their music. They will become your favorite Metal Band if you keep reacting to them. They will probably get into your top list of Bands in General. They are Metal, but they are really their own thing. Just isn't Rock it's "Queen", Jinjer is actually Jinjer, their own thing. You have about 15-20 more unique songs by them before you hit the bottom and a new album coming out later in the year. They half ass nothing, and they have a very real sense of the world, themselves, and each other. I've been watching them since 2017. They are genuine and talented. If you ever get bored there's a short interview Tatiana does that is the most charming thing in the world but it's on another channel hosted by either one of the sound engineers or possibly Eugene himself (the Bassist).

When this video came out, some English-speaking reactors were somewhat confused by the title, thinking it was a grammar error: it should be Back Home and not Home Back. They eventually understood it when they got to the line _"I came back home so I want my home back"_ at the end of the song. I personally believe it was a genius move by the band (or Tatiana) to leave the title like that instead of calling the song '(I Want My) Home Back', just to get people to talk about it. That or I'm just creating hypothetical explanations in my head because Tatiana is known for being unintentionally "lost in translation" sometimes and she didn't do it on purpose. 😄

@VocalCitizen Their first language is Russian. (Like Ukraine's now president's first language being Russian.) The situation their home region (it's 'oblast' in Russian) was impossible with all that army people w/o coats or flags coming from 'the east', pretending to being the safe keepers of the Russian population in the region, pretending if the locals speak Russian, they wouldn't feel as Ukrainians. There is a lot of personal conflict for Tati, Eugene, Roman, Vlad, on this matter which ended up in their great song and OMV 'Disclosure' . There is a pretext video on YT which shows the situation Tati and Eugene were exposed to on a public broadcast Ukrainian nationalist interviewer who tried to lure them in a trap that they cannot be true Ukrainians it they don't speak Ukrainian properly. Such a shame.

The more i learned about Jinjer, and the more I learned about Ukrainians, the more I realized Jinjer is a perfect representation of the courage, passion, intensity, resourcefulness, tenacity of the Ukrainian people. I do think Ukraine is the most important country in the world right now. And as an American I do believe Ukrainians have things to teach the average American about what it means to be free. Freedom isn't free!

      @VocalCitizen  4 месяца назад +1

Never apologize for commenting. And, if you please, sir...
      I answer EVERY COMMENT 😏
No, freedom isn't free. We as Americans often take that for granted (unless we're being televised) and the seats of Congress are tainted with greed and power-hunger.
We may not be directly involved as citizens in world conflict, but the average American voter simply casts a ballot along party lines, neglecting to do any research on the individual they're HIRING to handle geopolitics.
So, we cannot deny we are complicit. Everyone wants to hold the U.S. President accountable for how the country is run, but most fail to recognize that - unless POTUS signs an executive order - the ACTUAL power lies in Congress.
When elections stop being RED V. BLUE, and politicians see that our voting public is actually paying attention to what they're doing, only THEN will our country be on the right path.

Russian casualties in Ukraine have gone beyond 550,000. None of it makes sense. Setting aside for the moment what Ukrainians are going through how does that happen and yet few of those soldiers wonder why and try to run? Those that do get shot by their own. If the US suffered that kind of casualty rate, especially for the BS stated reasons for this full scale invasion of Ukraine, the military and the people wouldn't put up with it. It would end.
Another very personal song from Tati would be No Hoard of Value. A lot of the fighting near her home town is taking place in areas where there was heavy coal mining. In fact just outside of her home town are large artificial mountains made from the unusable byproduct of coal mining. That song is about the miners.

I love Home Back! Not only for the fantastic music and vocals, but because for me, it makes me angry and sad for two reasons: both the call against war (angry at the US warmongers who caused the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine and won't let either end, if this statement makes anyone balk, they should read a book by former US State Dept official William Blum, "Killing Hope: US Military and CIA Interventions Since WWII", original title, "How Jimmy Carter and I started Al Qaeda"), and also connecting the dots that all of these US backed coups and proxy wars have intentionally prevented global cooperation to address climate collapse (in addition to the war profiteering, fear of a good example and attempts at resource monopolies), so wanting our Home Back is an idea not only for all the war refugees but also for all life on earth about to lose our home because of US war profiteering ("don't you leave us homeless"). Thank you for reacting to it!
More of the history behind it: in 2014 was the US backed coup led by Ukrainian fascists (Azov Battalion, Banderites, etc) that started a civil war (or just pogroms) where for eight years the Ukrainian military, led by Ukrainian fascists, killed ten to fourteen thousand Russian speaking Ukrainians in the Donbas region including Donetsk (where Jinjer formed). The "fire in the hole" lyric in this song is about the Ukrainian military killing Russian speaking Ukrainians. You can find an old video of Tatiana saying she's afraid her government will shoot her. That's what Jinjer had to flee when they left the Donbas region to be an essentially homeless/refugee band on tour for years on end. Russia got involved in 2022 (after eight years of trying to use diplomacy to resolve the aggression by the US) to stop the US from handing nuclear weapons to the US backed fascists in Ukraine. The CIA and its cutout NED have always and continue to fund, arm and train fascists like this all over the world for the express purpose of staging coups like the one in Ukraine in 2014.
Azov Battalion, Right Sector and others were placed in the Donbas to kill as many Russian speaking Ukrainians as they could get away with, with multiple failed attempts to blame Russia for these murders. The murders were taking place in the Donbas, which is why Jinjer had to flee that part of Ukraine (they had to decide between staying and being unable to tour or leaving family and friends to tour and being unable to return more than once per year).
Sadly, I see many fellow Jinjer fans (and others) caught up by the US war profiteering propaganda that makes them think Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. This is utterly false. They sometimes point to Crimea. Crimea would have been more difficult for those US backed Ukrainian fascist groups, because there were historic reasons that Russia already had military bases in Crimea, none were added after the 2014 US backed coup, which is when the people in Crimea voted to leave Ukraine because they did not recognize the US backed coup regime which was de facto run by the US backed Ukrainian fascists (you can find video of those fascists pointing guns at the Ukrainian parliament).
A friend of Jinjer's bassist Eugene was killed by Ukrainian fascists (not by Russians). When you listen to Jinjer's song Sit Stay Roll Over, take note that it has lyrics (by Eugene) directly quoting the mantra of some of these Ukrainian fascists, "one path, one past, one trust", which is then flipped in the lyrics to, "it's not one's path, it's not one's past, it's not one's trust, it's not MY path, it's not MY past, it's NOT MY TRUST!" Make sure if you get any part of that song stuck in your head, it's the flipped part and not the fascist motto. At least 87 to 95% of the world (see UN votes, etc) does not believe the US war profiteering propaganda, I just hope that number keeps going up!
Again, thank you for this reaction! ❤️🖤🤘

Here we go again. Your standard cut-and-paste comment for every reaction to home Back. Wrong wrong wrong. Ukraine is the innocent victim of Russian territorial aggression and genocide. The history is complicated, yes. It often is when Russia perpetrates Russification on its neighbors. Their methods are nefarious and genocidal. They've been doing it for hundreds of years. Ask anyone living in a neighboring country.
Our current course however is clear. Russia out of Ukraine. All borders back to those agreed on internationally in 1991. War crimes trials for Pootin and his oligarch cronies.
Is America innocent? No. Have we made mistakes? Yes. Have we been the evil superpower? Maybe sometimes yes. Our hands aren't real clean, so it can be hard for people around the world to believe Americans can be altruistic. We can though. Like in World War 2, our goal is not territorial conquest or aggression. Will we stand up for those battling for self determination and freedom? Hell yeah!
I stand with Ukraine! Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!

I'm a staunch American patriot. That being said, any American who denies the U.S.'s involvement in global conflict is just fooling themselves. Even if we don't have a hand in directly facilitating conflict, we MUST acquiesce to the truth: First, we are the world's superpower. Second, our conduct has a direct effect on the world's economy and safety across the globe. Lastly, the corruption and political gameplay that happens in the seats of Congress affects the whole planet.
Our President holds the reins to the country's management, but (as in horsemanship) the horse is the one with the legs. Congress is the stubborn, willful horse who has to directly make the journey.
Most members of the House and the Senate spend their entire elected time JUST TRYING TO GET RE-ELECTED (and pad their coffers), because it means more money/benefits/power for them as individuals. It's a sickening merry-go-round, and their inflated egos make them punch-drunk with power and avarice. Those human barnacles drive the machine, as they're the ones who approve or disapprove what the president sends down for approval.
Outside of the fanatics (MAGA-cultists and the liberal wingnuts), MOST Americans want everyone to experience and enjoy our state of general equilibrium as citizens.
      I STAND WITH UKRAINE 🇺🇦

I agree to all of this. We're not a perfect nation, it's true. But as a PEOPLE, most of us are horrified by the genocide that's been occurring in Ukraine for YEARS. Unfortunately, our Congress tends to look at the financial bottom line, rather than the human cost of their politically-motivated decisions. It's abhorrent.

This was done around 2019, a few years before Russia invaded Ukraine in february 2022. The whole band is from Donetsk region and they already were having civil war between independentists backed by Russia and Ukraine military forces since 2014. They had to leave they homes and family behind as there was no future for them there. In their song "Retrospection" they say thank you to their parents.

Ukraine (or the area where Ukraine exists today) has been battled over endlessly. When nuke and chemical plants aren't poisoning everything around them, Ukraine actually has some of the most fertile ground anywhere and has been known as "The Breadbasket of Europe" for a long time. America wouldn't even have domestic wheat themselves without Ukrainians bringing their own domestic grain to the Midwestern US and teaching farmers how to grow it. When people say "bringing home the bread" they wouldn't even HAVE bread like that without Ukrainians and Ukraine.

you are spreading Russian narratives-propaganda lies about the Civil War in Donbass. I myself come from Donbass and personally saw how armed people in civilian clothes came from Russia. these were Russian military personnel “on leave.” it all started with the seizure of the mayor's office and police station in Slovyansk by a Russian intelligence officer, the Girkins, by his armed group, who emphasized that they were from Russia. the phrase of one of them, included in a television report: “move behind the curb!” became a meme because the word “curb” (porebrik)is spoken only in St. Petersburg. in Ukraine they say: “curb”(bordur). Where there were no Russians, there was no “civil war”.
