      I just came back from a Mitsuwa Market run. Pretty much the only place I get supermarket sushi from. But I definitely want to check out Tokyo Central. Looks like Japanese supermarket heaven.

    Tokyo Central is great. Prices are also 2-3 dollars less than restaurant cost for the same quality, too. Even after inflation! I recommend looking at their American Wagyu Chuck Roll cuts. 9 dollars a pound and you get great marbling and flavor.

    I love Tokyo Central Market! I moved back to LA a few years back and I really missed the great Japanese supermarkets like Tokyo Central. They really do have awesome sushi. You should do a vid on the other eating places in the market too (if they're any good).

    Tokyo Central has another branch in Torrance on Sepulveda. The Gardena site used to be called Marukai and it is a much larger store. It used to be a members only store. I am not sure if a membership is still required.

    There are quite a few Markets that have quality fresh sushi in the Gardena / Torrance area. Nijiya is another that has good sushi and bentos. Ralph's market even has good sushi. If you want it fresh from any of these places you have to get it at lunch time when it's being made. For dinner the food court is best to get something fresh. It looks like you didn't have some wasabi with your meal. I love wasabi on my sushi.

    @Steve....You need to try the Karaage at Tenkatori. It's the best in L.A. Also, the tonkatsu at Kagura may be some of the best in L.A. as well.

    • @mata_matafuka
      @mata_matafuka Год назад

      I second Tenkatori, I always get their fried gizzards as snacks when I am there, but personally I think the Kagura store in Torrance or even the one in El Segundo are much better than this location.

  • @mata_matafuka
    @mata_matafuka Год назад

    This is the best Tokyo Central in the southbay, no need to go to the other locations, I come here for their sashimi and Japanese wagyu all the time!!
    I guess you are saving the gindaco takoyaki and tenkatori karaage in the food court for a next show. Those are amazing!!! You ain't a foodie if you don't eat those!!
    Mitsuwa on western used to be the best Japanese market, but it sucks now that they moved to Del Amo!!

    Excellent review!
    From the Sushi/Bentos I’ve got at local So Cal area supermarkets, I’d rank
    1. Central Market AKA Marukai
    2. Tozai Market (Rosemead)
    3. Mitsuwa
    4. Nijiya

    Tokyo Central is great for Japanese groceries (great prices and selection) but for sushi and bentos, I prefer Nijiya. Nijiya uses Koshihikari rice and quality of the ingredients is superior to Tokyo Central. The one on 182nd Street in Torrance also has a cafe with udon and donburi. Tokyo Central has a better food court though. Love Kagura for donkatsu and Tokyo du Croissants for pastries!
