at 19 I finally learned :'D
I wanted to say thank you. I have two special needs kiddos with low muscle tone in their fingers- one 13 and one 11 and today they learned this technique in under 10 mins and have it down. They are so excited to be able to tie their own shoes!
Now, they can show their friends the ‘cool way’!

Julien Dante you don't loop your thumbs the same direction, one underneath, one above
Slow the video to 0.5 and then do it. Also make sure that you're not taking too much of your shoe lace if it's short.

Great method! I saw this a couple weeks ago and started to tie my shoes that way every day. As time went on, it became easier, faster and more automatic. The knot turns out to be a square not, unlike the old way, which I have been using for 64 years. Now my laces don't come loose halfway through my walks. Thanks! (Even the military basic training did not teach us to tie this way.

For starters, it's your LEFT pointer finger that goes under the shoelace, not your right one, but if you disregard her verbal instructions and just mimic what she does then it should work out for you. If you're feeling buckwild and want to try an even faster and more simple way to tie your shoes, skip the pinky part altogether. Tie the initial knot like in the video, then, leaving your pinkies the hell out of it, put your left index finger under the shoelace, etc., and then BAM! Tied ass shoes. The only difference this makes in the final result is that the bow isn't centered perfectly, it tilts, but if you learned to tie your shoes in the good ol' US of A then your bow has always been tilted bc we're taught to tie our shoes backwards. (To see what I mean, tie one of your shoes the way you always have, then, when tying the other, begin by making the first loop with your left hand instead of your right and you should see a clear difference in the way the bow lays.) But if you're just going for speed and don't care about your bow game then your pinkies have no business here. Either way, you got this!
ETA: If you're tying someone else's shoes (facing them) using the quick method shown here in the video, you definitely ALWAYS want to skip the pinky part (to get perfect bows) bc when tying shoes that you're facing it's just not part of the deal. You can still do it, but it's an extra step for crooked bows and that's just silly. The pinky part is just what flips the direction to get perfect bows when tying your own shoes, so basically...Tying your kid's shoes real quick like? NEVER involve your pinkies. Tying your own shoes real quick like? Pinky part optional (pinkies for bow perfection, no pinkies for speed). I think my work is done here.

Guys, this method does not always work because of the initial knot tie. If it doesn't work for you, swap the thumb and index finger instructions (try thumb on left if you did it on the right). Note: index finger always goes underneath lace and thumb always goes above lace.
There is a pattern that is linked with the starting knot but it's hard to explain without a picture.

First, a disclaimer: you guys are great and listening to me isn't necessarily a good idea.
OK now my reasoning: there's a certain skill involved in telling a story without words, and you guys just do a brilliant job with that and craft. The craft itself speaks, and it plays out like a puzzle you are solving in front of me, or a magic trick you're doing. I always try and guess what you're going to do next. When you speak it loses that a little.
But again, please take that with a grain of salt. You guys are great presenters and have some stunning videos, and I'm sure whichever direction you go will be great.

I agree that sometimes less is more but as a knitter I must say that while knitting it's good to listen to a specific instruction without being distracted from what I am doing. We decided to use our voices for more complicated knitting, crocheting or sewing projects in the future and now we are exercising ;)
Worth noting that the first 'normal' part of tie, can be done using the exact same method as the 2nd part of the tie. "First tie your laces as usual", you can do the 2nd part here too... just pull the loops all the way through instead of leaving them like you would in the 2nd part.
So the whole thing is just the exact same action performed twice.
