I am in awe. I’m a Gen Xer. Not even a Boomer. I first learned about the Sid Caesar show by the movie ‘My Favorite Year’ in the 80s and Mel”s story about visiting Caesar and holding his hand made me smile.
Marcs' problem is he has to appear smart. Unfortunately no one whos driven by way is neither smart nor interesting. A lot of these interviews are gold but it ends up being an exercise of praying the guest doesnt get cut off
Marc, I "discovered" you on Conan - (Conan and Andy, your best foils) - and you've become one of my favorite people. Mel, of course, is one of my media heroes, a guy I always run to when I'm in the throes of depression. Thanks for these great interviews!
"They tell me to walk into the room and set up." " I walk into the room and there's Mel Brooks just sitting there by himself." Just imagine that. Imagine.
The wartime megaphone retort to the singing German across the river. The Gig Young story, and the band name, Mel and the 5 wife beaters! I saw Blazing Saddles, Silent Movie and Young Frankenstein in the movies on the big screen- more event than a movie in each case!
Excellent interviews and they should have gotten a dinner .And mel followed you to your car after a pro bono interview and you say adios what the hell are you thinking.
Nondescript no, but what's even funnier is that I looked it up and that photo was taken from when he had his hand mold done in front of the Chinese Theatre in LA
Marc didn't have to go all 'hey look i'm super-jewish too!' on this he should have focused more on Mel's work, art, craft and life, the rest is schmegegge
I could never understand why a man with such wealth and prestige took so much pleasure outta sticking me with the check. He would just disappear from the table then be soooo pleased with himself.
What's with all these showbiz Jews? No regard or belief in a Creator God, golden rule, moral absolutes, etc. They should just call themselves atheists and be done with it.
10 years later, he is still with us!!! I feel like I am watching his stories unfold before my eyes. What a masterful performer!
This interview should be played in schools a real history lesson. Beautiful.
A wonderful What the Fuck podcast!!

Marc finally gives Mel a chance to talk at 13:44.
God forbid the guy talk on his own show lmfao
Marcs' problem is he has to appear smart. Unfortunately no one whos driven by way is neither smart nor interesting. A lot of these interviews are gold but it ends up being an exercise of praying the guest doesnt get cut off
No kidding, I kicked this thing off for my drive home and the drive ended before I even heard Mel talk.
he does do a monologue before the interview starts. They usually last this long.
The Buddy Rich story at 58:30 reminds me of Whiplash's opening scene.
Badass interview skills, Marc! A classic!
Beautiful. Very enthralling. Watched blazing saddles and spaceballs right after
Best MB interview I've heard.
They start actually talking at 13:20 ish.
Thank you.
Love the stories. Great interview
Beautiful interview.

It would be really cool if in the future you could timestamp when the actual interview with the guest starts
Trivia: Mel Brooks had 5 fingers and a thumb on his left hand. As seen at 18:00 in this video...
Great Mel quote: "He's not in line, he's not in line! He's my agent- Swiftus!"
Very good interview!
The wartime megaphone retort to the singing German across the river.
The Gig Young story, and the band name, Mel and the 5 wife beaters!
I saw Blazing Saddles, Silent Movie and Young Frankenstein in the movies on the big screen- more event than a movie in each case!
Brooks.... The real article, great chat
Mel’s a phenomenal listener. A sponge. Comedic Buddha lol didn’t expect that
Mel Brooks the Great.
Mel Brooks is legendary; Marc Maron - he's ok, too
I know I'm kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream newly released movies online ?
@Ernest Mordechai I watch on Flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Pierce Jake Definitely, have been using FlixZone for years myself =)
@Pierce Jake thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I really appreciate it !!
@Ernest Mordechai Glad I could help xD
Great interview. Mel defines mensch, WHAT A MENSCH! We are so lucky!
A sweet man.

Polydactyl! Who knew? Mel is special in so many ways.

".....in jeruseleam"?
Mel Brooks burps at 1:21:24
Excellent interviews and they should have gotten a dinner .And mel followed you to your car after a pro bono interview and you say adios what the hell are you thinking.
Waaaait a minute. Only 45 likes? Where am I, the twilight zone?
WOW. WOW. WOW. 2 hours in 15 minutes. Now what do I listen to?
Oh…. 45 comments. 344 likes! That’s sooooo much better.
Love the Buddy Rich story
Comb the desert
Who the F down voted this? You must answer for it, you fools!
Exactly!
Hitler's ghost, probably
Okay now I gotta ask... does Mel Brooks actually have 11 fingers?
Nondescript no, but what's even funnier is that I looked it up and that photo was taken from when he had his hand mold done in front of the Chinese Theatre in LA
Now gonna check out to see the Sept 8/14 Conan clip of him wearing same prosthetic later that same day?
Hah, that explains it... he did it as a legacy joke for the hand print, that sounds like something he would do!
Marc didn't have to go all 'hey look i'm super-jewish too!' on this he should have focused more on Mel's work, art, craft and life, the rest is schmegegge
Bliss from Zorba
Paper Moon was shot B/W a year before. Ammo for trivia and fun to correct Mel Brooks...
And The Last Picture Show was released in 1971, in B&W obviously.
and Paper Moon introduced burton gilliam , who went on to appear in Blazing Saddles...
I could never understand why a man with such wealth and prestige took so much pleasure outta sticking me with the check. He would just disappear from the table then be soooo pleased with himself.
how bankrupt are you, your sense and your sense of humor to thumbs down this man? completely.
love his world war z hat.
What a treasure.
Wow. :)

Oy Givalt!!!
The golden rule is not a theism, At its foundation it doesn't have anything to do with God Or no God.
It's essential humanism.
Marc / funny / authentic / great chats...great banter
