My parents bought an abandoned barn and house in the mid 1970s on the corner of Lake Street and Route 17 in Ramsey, NJ. We restored the property and used the barn as a business, called Ramsey Feed and Grain. We restored the house ourselves and there were already a few apartments made. The walls were insulated with straw and manure and made of plaster. My brother lived in one of the apartments after we restored the place, and discovered a crawlspace above a hidden room over his kitchen. So there was a pull down with stairs and then upstairs a room with a book case that had a small space for maybe a few people to hide, behind it. In addition, the unfinished root celler had a tunnel which no one and the guts to explore. We all were convinced it led to another property. I have not been able to find anything about this farm and the barn and huse were torn down in the 2000's to put in a highway. Does anyone know anything about tis place?

I'm from Jersey City and found out after growing up and moving out that I grew up on a block that was part of the underground RR. in Jersey City.
WOW I had no idea that Harriet Tubman stopped in NJ
