I love my vw air cooled sand rail. And would love to have a rail like you have but the nice thing about the older rail I have is it’s cheap fun. Might subbie swap my old school rail in the future
I bought a sandrail using your same logic. For the same money you can get something that has so much more performance. But what I found out is that the reliability goes down significantly. I just watched your latest video on this submject and I'm curious how you feel now about this? I sold my sandrail and went back to a RZR turbo.
I agree with you Eddie smart move buddy ..... hard pack can be really fun for the whole family because you can actually drive 30 miles or more take a nice trip enjoy the scenery pack a lunch and not scare the crap out of your younger children ..... it is just a different vibe and pace .... and the cool thing is your front tires can do hard pack or dunes so you would only need to change your rear tires for hard pack and you are good to go......
It all depends on what you going to use it. Cus you cant take a sand car to the forest or rock crawling and on a can am you can, you can take it pretty much anywhere
I’ll be interested is seeing the maintenance time and coast over the years. Only reason I went RZR was because I wanted to leave it stock (relatively stock😅) and buy off the shelf parts that may break. Fortunately 1600 miles I’m and nothing broken so far. Buggies are also good out in the desert mom dunes stuff, I’m in the southwest as well so 4 wheel driver is not necessary although it help in the whoops.
100% on the side by sides i never understood the backtracking of performance I remember being in glamis is 2000 an shit was wild boobies an golf carts 100k+ people pre law enforcement an camping fees, but the impression off seeing low flying black hawks an buggys with 2 feet of travel gave me the bug for life. With the price of a turn key mendola ls 5 seater thats bender, tig, notcher, shocks, trans and all the tubing id rather see you build one
Interested in your future videos! I just bought a new Canam turbo rr after 5 years of a rzr turbo ( which was very low maintenance btw) but have always wanted a vehicle that would do wheelies. Who doesn’t love doing wheelies!
I understand your reasoning, but the reason why sand rails are cheaper, is because they’re purely sand only machines. Yes, like you mentioned, they could go hard pack, but most owners take them to the sand only. Sand rails are also meant for a specific type of riding, and that is fast, flowy sections. SXS’s, on the other hand, are less powered BUT they’re small enough to go places sand tails can’t, maneuverable, and built to basically go on any terrain. This adaptability is more enticing to those who aren’t necessarily “desert riders”, but more so those people who just want to have fun in all types of terrain. So a SXS’s approach attracts way more people, hence why they’re expensive for what power you get. Now, when the new RZR Turbo S and CanAm RR’s came out, those were game changers! They were wider, suspension was beefier, and they had power to actually do shot pretty fast! Now with the new RZR Turbo R and Pro R, they’re built to haul ass in the hard pack desert and sand, jump, and do all sorts of crazy desert riding stuff. On top of that, they could head to Moab, UT, and out-crawl just about any Jeep with over $100k in mods thrown at it! Straight from the factory they’re amazing! Slap $5k in an upgraded turbo on the Turbo R, and you’re in the 400+ hp range. So it can be fast if desired, but do so much more that a sand rail couldn’t. That’s why they’re $50-60k. Power is awesome, and for your type of riding, a sand rail was the best move for you. But having the ability to go everywhere in our Turbo R is damn good fun! It is expensive for the power, but that’s literally only one variable you seemed to care about in this video. Power isn’t everything. It’s definitely something, but not everything.
Rzr always sound like they are running hot on the gears. They sound like they are forced. And the fact that most of them are automatic, no fun in driving automatic.
I agree with your price argument. However, sand car is mostly for sand while side by side has more versatility, specifically two seater. Not a fan of 4 seater side by side due to too much length.
To each his own. And all depends on what you want to do with your car if only sand makes sense to get a sand car. Trail and sand well sxs makes sense as well. Nothing against anybody on what you have. Run what you brung at least that’s my opinion. Get what you want life is to short to compare and complain do what makes you happy.
Eddie! Your missing out bro hard pack is fun! Check out the trails in Barstow area actually check out slash x bar on RUclips we have good ride from dry camping all the way to this bar, great time! you should get your crew out there you may change your perspective on trail riding threw mountains

Eddie, the SXS vs Sand Car is regional for me. In Northern CA, I need a rig that can do it all. Up north we are SXS folks. I don’t disagree with your thoughts!
Love the new car. You are so right I bought my rzr stock new was 24k and I put in 10 and still want to do stuff. Why would you pay that much for a rzr or a maverick. I can’t wait to see your glamis videos.

Prices on everything have gone up so much. I was finally ready to buy a bass boat in 2020 but with stupid covid i didn't buy it because i didn't know if i was still going to have a job. Now that I'm ready again the same boat i want is now 15K more and there's no way in hell I'm going to buy it even though i can now
Yea, the prices are crazy that's too much for a toy!!! Got to agree on price 20 something is coo for a can am, rzr but 45 or 50 they smoking 🚬!!!! My step dad is saying the same thing, but like u said, it depends on your purpose of use!!!! All this money making me want to say fuck it and get a dirt bike or quad!!! When we turned it into a family thing is when it got expensive as fuck but before it was just the guys it was reasonably to go have fun on a budget!! But with family kids got to have the best safety, wife want to be comfortable and don't care for power like that and it's places with the rzr's were its family friendly!!! It's alot of pros and cons on both like you said!!! Smart move for your situation 👌 👍!!!
You missed the most important point. The rail is a 1000 times safer, more reliable, faster, funner, cooler, and doesn't roll over like a side by sides do. The rail is a real car, sxs are just pretty toys for the clueless.
I agree sand cars are great for sand. If you have big bucks I would go sand car. But I had both rzr 1000 and sand cars unlimited car. That sand cars unlimited would break and be screwed for glamis. But I broken a lower control arm on my rzr and got it fixed that same day. All depends

I agree eith the power. But sand cars are purpose built. Our 22 can am can take us where these sand cars can't go. For the trails I'll take our built SxS any day. For sand and no rocks I'd love a sand car.
We have a boat for the six months of VEGAS summer and we have a sandrail for six months of off summer weather... We only play in the dunes, from Coral pink In Utah to st. Anthonys in Idaho to glamis and dumont... Sandrail is a true dune toy. And why would anyone purchase a sxs for $50k and pay additional $15k to make it safe and another $15k to make it dune ready.. that just blows my mind... 😂....
I think it’s a lot to do with finances. I’m a sand rail driver also and a sxs. Most people don’t have 30-50k sitting to buy a rail but can finance a sxs. If people where honest “most” sxs guts want a rail.
The sxs pricing has gotten out of control since covid, a 4 seat 72” x3 xrs turbo rr or what ever the mid level is should Never exceed 25k new bone stock. 35k for a pro R is even too high. They’re great but should be for the every man to enjoy close to sand car/rock crawler performance at a fraction of the price or time invested.
50k for that car is I good deal. if you don't lunch it from a dead stop you transmission will live for a long time. the way you maintain your toys this car will be good to you.
Side by sided have never been about being perfect about anything. They are meant to be ok at everything. When you compare a sand specific vehicle vs an all around vehicle it's a no brainer. The side by side can expose people to all aspects of off roading. Can a side by side glide the dunes? No! but can a sand car hit the trail or rock climb or go thru mud??? No!! You have to compare apples to apples.
