I've heard this song so many times in my life but never listened. This is the first time I read the lyrics and oh boy how they smacked me in the face. Over the past couple years I've fallen hard for a girl I know. I met her through some friends when she was married. We started talking a lot more as friends while she was going through a divorce and over that time I realized I couldn't begin to think of anyone else. She is the girl of my dreams. She knew I had feelings and I hoped once things were settled we'd get the chance to get to know each other better and she'd see I'm worth keeping around. Then I found out she was already seeing someone else. It hurts like hell and I know the probability of us ever getting together is next to nothing, but I'm overjoyed at how I feel for her. I heard this song some days ago, after failing my struggle with my longtime addiction and giving in to my desire. Of course I was at the time feeling like shit, but then this song came around and I felt a mix of sad relief and hope, because it first reminded me of my 10 years old long addiction and the way I miss out on feeling greater pleasure from music, but also the way there are great things out there to enjoy other than what I'm struggling with. So this song right here gives me one more reason to leave behind my misery habit, it is something I look forward to enjoy fully someday, I know how beautiful it is :')

I love Prince, but Stevie did everything he did and was more critically acclaimed (only artist to win three consecutive Grammy Album of the Year awards in back to back to back releases). And has been a prodigy since he was 11 years old. This was the end of his period as one of the biggest commercial artists in the world, but his discography is better than anyone's. As a child I'd hear this song and feel the melody of it...not really listening to the words. I knew that I liked the song. It wasn't until I've grown and experienced heartbreak that I'd listen to these words that sunk so deeply into my soul. This song makes me happy and sad at the same time! To me it's a song of HOPE. Man it hurts when love isn't reciprocated and one day we won't have to feel the pain of that anymore. I'm glad Stevie made this song because feeling "Overjoyed" at least taught me that it's great to love....just make sure you invest in someone who's going to love you back.
Stevie Wonder isnt just a talented singer/songwriter, but an inspirational human being! How many of us wouldnt have given up on life if we were blind, or deaf? I had the privelege of watching him perform live here in Milwaukee many years ago. He put on a great 3 hour show!

I heard this song some days ago, after failing my struggle with my longtime addiction and giving in to my desire.
Of course I was at the time feeling like shit, but then this song came around and I felt a mix of sad relief and hope, because it first reminded me of my 10 years old long addiction and the way I miss out on feeling greater pleasure from music, but also the way there are great things out there to enjoy other than what I'm struggling with. So this song right here gives me one more reason to leave behind my misery habit, it is something I look forward to enjoy fully someday, I know how beautiful it is :')

Everyone's journey is unique so there is no "cookie cutter", "one size fits all" cure. You will win some "rounds" and you will lose some, but you still win the fight and obtain the victory. For my money, the G.O.A.T. I love Prince, but Stevie did everything he did and was more critically acclaimed (only artist to win three consecutive Grammy Album of the Year awards in back to back to back releases). And has been a prodigy since he was 11 years old. This was the end of his period as one of the biggest commercial artists in the world, but his discography is better than anyone's. And this is one of the 3-4 most beautiful love songs ever written. Just throwing that in.

I love this song!! I don’t believe that it’s sad; I think that it’s about someone waiting for someone else to realize that they love them. (And that’s surprising from me who is sometimes too negative, LOL). Notice how Stevie Wonder ended this with the strumming of a harp, not a sad violin. As a child I'd hear this song and feel the melody of it...not really listening to the words. I knew that I liked the song. It wasn't until I've grown and experienced heartbreak that I'd listen to these words that sunk so deeply into my soul. This song makes me happy and sad at the same time! To me it's a song of HOPE. Man it hurts when love isn't reciprocated and one day we won't have to feel the pain of that anymore. I'm glad Stevie made this song because feeling "Overjoyed" at least taught me that it's great to love....just make sure you invest in someone who's going to love you back.

Stevie Wonder isnt just a talented singer/songwriter, but an inspirational human being! How many of us wouldnt have given up on life if we were blind, or deaf? I had the privelege of watching him perform live here in Milwaukee many years ago. He put on a great 3 hour show!
This is such a great way of putting it. I mean, there are many ways to say so, but words are so well chosen and music goes so well with the lyrics that all you can think of is, gee, they do come true if you were to sing her songs like these.
