Great music, great friends, great times. Thanks Dr. Trimborn, for all your years of teaching and for putting together this terrific retrospective. I remember playing these pieces! - Guy Raymaker
Dr. T, so pleased to see and hear you and the band again in this great montage. As a student from 81-85, I think we all knew that we were experiencing a very special and legendary era in the PHS music department, as did our older siblings. The combo of Trimborn-Horn-Reiser was unbeatable, and it's great to hear you reflect on it. Wow, it was good. Thanks again for the all great vibes and leadership from your incredible pit orchestras!
This is awesome. Thanks so much for all you did for us. Band was the highlight of high school. But where’s Chorale and Shaker Dance? Still love that piece.
Wow, what wonderful memories this brings back. Without the PHS band, the music, the great friends and teachers, my years at Palatine would never have been as awesome as they were. I love and remember well all the concert flyers -- drawn by Mr. Trimborn, how beautiful they are even today! I will always remember band, the first chair competitions, the V-Shows, the amazing pieces we played. This video is simply amazing and shows how much you always cared for the kids. I had tears in my eyes with wonderful memories brought to life again through this video. I am truly fortunate to have had such an inspiring group of teachers and thank you for all your years of teaching me, and never giving up! - Katie Zaruba ('85)
Tom, thank you so much for all the work you went to to create this video, and thank you for all your years of devotion to the band and your students. I had tears in my eyes listening to the amazing selections, and not just the ones from the years I played under your baton. You did something truly world-changing, teaching kids who weren’t even 18 years old what it meant to be part of something great and how to play music at the highest level. I feel so lucky to have met you at such a formative time in my life. Your vision for what a high school ensemble could be and what it could accomplish was extraordinary. It was an honor to be in the PHS Band for 4 years with you on the podium.
Tom, this is fantastic! Thank you so much for putting this together. It brings back the best memories of my high school years. It was a wonderful experience having you as our band director-we were very lucky. And, through your efforts, you always made us better musicians and better people.
I am so pleasantly drowning in nostalgia right now. It reinforces the regret that I didn’t stay in Palatine for my Senior year and be a part of the transition from the old school to the new. While I made some good friends, my Senior experience in my Texas high school band as the school as a whole was…interesting. The PHS band was my first experience of being part of something truly exemplary, an experience often approached but never really superseded in my life in advertising. And while It is never good to peak in high school, but I must admit that musically I did just that, which my subsequent years as college DJ and (fortunately) brief time as rock band front man never made up for. But while trombone playing didn’t stick with me, Dir. Trimborn’s model of calm but effective leadership always did. It was governance born of respect, high expectations and positive results. You worked hard simply because you never wanted to disappoint the man. With a fraction of his talent, I’ve tried to adhere to that model as best I could.
