  • This antiquated synth was great to experiment with in the late 80s. It was my first actual noise-creation device. Today, you can team it up with modern sequencers and arpeggiators to get some nice raw grinds. It still holds up well and has its place.

    I have a few other synths. How would I hook up the 780 to play the arpeggiator on the others? Sure I'd hove to plug in a midi lead from one to the other. Sorry my midi skills are VERY poor but I only want to use such exciting features for my own music creations. Thanks!

      +bestrickie2 MIDI cables solve everything!

    Cheers I'll try that. i also used to have many years ago the good old 680 among others over the years. i have a few music covers here on you tune and I'm on sound cloud as well. My name for both accounts is bestrickie2 so by all means have a nose. I have a few stunning keyboards including the amazing tyros 5.

    How do I set the midi or do I just plug the cable and start the arpeggio?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  8 лет назад +1

      +bestrickie2 Just plug in MIDI and start the arpeggio or play the keys. If no sound, ty changing the MIDI channel on the Controller or on the PSS keyboard. Eventually they'll match up. But usually it works first go with no changes.

    I have a PSS-780 but I never knew it has an arpeggiator or is it the other keyboard arpeggiator using the sounds from the 780?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  8 лет назад

      +bestrickie2 The other keyboard is generating the arpeggio :)

    Wasn't this the one with the midi problems, where you could have midi or midi out but not both at the same time?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 года назад +1

      I've never heard of that issue but I'll certainly try it out next time I have one. Thank you for an interesting comment there :) gf

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, the 790 has midi in and that's all you need. It might not have the precise same sounds though /Gearfacts

    i'm messing about with my yamaha portasound pss 780 trying to get it to link to my mpc so i can record baselines and bits via midi into the mpc main control sequencer the midi can pick up the mpc sounds and play them on the keys but i want to record playing the keyboard into the mpc sequencer ... a little stumped hence why I'm looking around online ..... so seeing that there might be a problem with the midi if both in and out are plugged in consecutively is interesting news... if anyone can help please respond... thanks

      Are you trying to use the MPC as your sequencer, and the yamaha as both the keys and sound source?? If so, you have 2 MIDI modes on the YAMAHA. Normal mode which you get when you power on the PSS, and MULTI MODE which is 99 on the display when you press the MIDI button on the PSS. The Yamaha is capable of 16 part multitimbral sound mode in BOTH modes but touch response reception on the PSS is only possible in MULTI MODE 99. On that MODE, you can not use the beats or sequencer of the PSS, as the PSS becomes just a TONE MODULE. The keys work in this mode, but not the beats. In normal mode, you just set your midi Rcv ch to match your MPC midi Tx ch for the track you are about to record into on the MPC sequencer. ON the PSS, you then set your midi Tx ch to the same channel you want to play notes into the MPC sequencer, making sure the MPC midi Rcv/Rx ch is set to the same channel! Plug BOTH midi cables into BOTH units. Midi in of PSS to MIDI OUT of MPC, and Midi out of PSS to MIDI IN of MPC. I composed most of my Teenage hood music with just the PSS as my Workstation(sequecer/keyboard controller), and triggered other Midi keyboards as my EXTRA sound sources.. The Yamaha is a simple midi controller with a built in sequencer and drum pattern maker that can all be assigned their own midi Tx channels! 16 channels to choose from!
