I never liked being called Samantha, but this song makes me feel loved haha. It's a very beautiful sounding song that even makes me like my name every time I hear it.
I remember watching High Society as a young girl and fell in love with the film and songs, especially this one. Never liked being called Samantha until I heard this. I'm still waiting to find my one girl guy ~ X ~
This is the theme tune used by David Jacobs on his long-running Sunday Night show on BBC Radio 2, or about half a minute of it anyway. Great to find a longer version, and also nice to see that Crosby knows how to tie a proper bow-tie as all real gentleman should!
Unfortunately, the best part is cut out. When Bing goes to the chorus and Louis is playing and Grace Kelly is sitting in her window listening to Bing sing and just as she starts to walk away and turns and you know she loves Bing, then the film cuts to Louis Armstrong and he say "Now we're getting warm."
This is about half of this entire sequence... Satch's "Greek Chorus" moment, immediately before this begins, is missing, as is Grace Kelly's reaction to the song, in her own mansion, some distance away... ...but let's focus on what IS here: Bing Crosby brushes off his tux jacket, perfectly, folds his pocket square, perfectly, ties a bow tie, perfectly, and fills his cigarette case, perfectly, all while singing this beautiful song, in two minutes and nine seconds; just brushing off my tux jacket takes longer than that, and I'm not usually singing as I do it. Note, also: That strange-looking appliance in the far right corner is a television set; and Bing's bedroom, including the walk-in closet, is larger than my first two apartments COMBINED.
Hmm... i tought i responded to your reaction, but the wedding march from high society is such a brilliant one! I cant imagine any wedding march is so nice and surpising as that one!
I didnt see where anyone posted where this song is from but I though I'd put it on here for those who would want to know...this song is from the movie "High Society"
Which, as well as Bing and Grace Kelly and a young Frank Sinatra, features Louis Armstrong, Trummy Young, Billy Kyle, Arvell Shaw, Edmond Hall, and Barrett Deems. Great listening!
Well this was waaaay before my way :3 But i love my girlfriend and i'm in a corny mood so i found this and ima play it for her since her name is Samantha O.o Woot
thanks for posting,it used to be in youtube. Regrettably, you cut the song too fast as the scene includes a cut to Grace Kelly in her room(unpardonable to edit one so gorgeous) more Bing and a close by Louis A. Please fix if you can. Thanks
This song gets my vote for the weakest in Porter's impressive output. Was it titled One Gal Guy at one point since the song is all about the guy not Samantha. And what type of guy would continue to hold a torch for a gal who might tell him to get lost? The whole idea is lame. One little bluesy "lowered 10th" doesn't make the song any less lame.
Oh Bing you gent...all the Samantha's in the world sure do love you
Oh Stop!
Truth
❤yes
When I’m getting ready to go out at night , wherever it is , I always play this song and imagine I’m as cool as Bing Crosby

The High Society musical score written by Cole Porter. What a musical genius he was.

I actually learned to tie a Bow Tie from Bing here.
This for many years has been the theme tune for radio shows hosted by David 'Hello There' Jacobs

Sour Grapes
How this terrible song ever get so famous?
Roger Turner It's sung by a famous singer/actor in a popular musical based off a popular play. That's a pretty dumb question!
+Roger Turner And it's written by one of America's greatest composers--Cole Porter. (It's not a simple "singer/song-writer's song.)
Great song.
Then why listen to this
Suffice it to say that it became my girlfriend's and mine theme song. We were married for 44 years.
The "...one gal guy" like clinched it for us.
I love the Cornet in this ! x.
