  • The two remaining C44-9W engines in Chicago and Northwestern paint run the MCLPR-19 train toward Chicago on the Union Pacific's Geneva subdivision.
This pair had been working around Chicago's Proviso Yard for the last few months. Then the local railfandom was abuzz when they were suddenly sent to Clinton, Iowa. On the return journey, they were held up at Nelson overnight. Which gave me the opportunity for this Easter morning catch.
About 15 months prior I caught this duo leading an autorack train near sunset at the same location. • C&NW 8646 East and C&N...

Hopefully these two stick around for a long while. Although the way I saw 8701 smoking later I have to wonder. Thanks for watching.

8701 loves to smoke, Bill, I got a beautiful shot of them leaving Proviso through Elmhurst back in 2011 with 8701 on the lead and as they ramped up it was just beautiful what 8701 was doing, looked like a coal steamer! Amen to a long long time for these 2!

Super catch, awesome lighting, power and all. I'm quite envious, because I would really love to see this set out on the mainline. This is one of the best videos I have seen of these two units, definitely a good tribute to CNW.

Yeah I caught the guys at the west end of Proviso late last week on my way to work, had to stop and take more pictures as I do every time I see the twins, needless to say I was late to work, but man what a nice way to start a day, CNW painted locomotives at the west end of Proviso! Nice video Bill!

Awesome catch Bill! I was lucky enough to see 8701 in July, so no worries in regards to the amount of smoke she puts out haha. Best of luck trackside!

Are they always paired up? I saw these two a few weeks ago on my way to St. Louis.

They have been recently. I think certain Chicago UP employees try to keep them together. Just guessing.
