If you were to guess the #1 most requested song from the 2021 GaMetal Song Ballot, you might have expected Mario. Maybe Kirby. Possibly even something like Persona. Or perhaps you didn't know the ballot closed in May so you just assumed it was the currently hot request "Big Shot!" from Fatal Fury 3.
But in actuality, an underdog rose to the occasion this year: The Legend of Heroes.
With even more votes than God Shattering Star in 2020, The Azure Arbitrator from The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki, now holds the spot as the most requested GaMetal Song Ballot request to date.
So here it is, all 8+ minutes of the final boss theme from Trails to Azure!
I based this arrangement on both the original version and the Ao no Kiseki Evolution version.

@@ThanhTriet600 Honestly considering this remix was the reason I got into the Trails series and that I had read that monologue many times, I can safely say it didn't spoil me on anything except WHAT the final boss was, and that only became relevant case once I was in the final hour of Azure's plot and had time to think about it while going through the final dungeon. It really doesn't tell you much without some incredibly late game context other than "here's the main antagonist's personalized attempt at playing god, go nuts". If anything, it only enhanced my experience since I was trying to figure out what the Azure Tree was throughout the entire second half of Azure.

From an unheard-of series just a year ago to the #1 most requested song the channel's ever seen, by a landslide. I've never been more proud to be a Trails fan, you guys are all awesome. I'm glad all the effort I've put forth in spreading the word of this series on the Discord server has borne this much fruit. Thanks so much for all of your support on the 2021 song ballot!

Every time I hear a Trails or Ys song I think "man this song is really good!" Those games just somehow get shoveled into the "niche" category despite all being phenomenal and deserving of recognition just as much as Final Fantasy. Falcom loves its games, and loves its music, and wants everyone to enjoy them! (seriously Falcom's YT channel is loaded with a literal gold mine of fantastic music)

Dear god, there's nothing like listening this song in the actual game. I really hope that with the upcoming translation of the crossbell duology people can finally recognize that the crossbell arc is probably the best arc to date

@ヘックサ I hope so. If I'm correct falcom promised that next series will be more mature. I liked Cold steel too, but would prefer more complex storyline (like Crossbell had (more politics and humans being scummy rather than some "magical forces"))

Can confirm, playing Kuro right now and it’s more mature. Murder, drugs, trafficking and strippers. Sheeeesh. Characters are well written and gameplay is great, very fresh. My ONLY gripe is how it can get repetitive, but it’s along the lines of what you are used to in a Trails game. At least when they drop big reveals, it makes up for that.
@@miguelgonzalez6495 Well Ao no Kiseki was repetitive too (chapters 1~4) but when that end of CH.4 hit. I went like "Holy shit". I just don't want another "All people are inherently good and it's just this epic magical creature/curse thats making them go bad"

Now that Azure has been officially released in English, I hope even more people will discover this phenomenal cover!
I'm currently in the Finale and decided to give this a listen out of excitement for the final boss fight lol. Granted, I'm still in the early stages of the Finale in Mainz Mountain Path.
This single remix sent me on a massive goose chase to see what was so good about an obscure jrpg that it was able to rise to the very top of the song ballot against all odds with such a stacked year of bangers releasing back to back. Over the course of these past two years, I've slowly chipped away at the series, and I have only just recently beaten Azure. While this certainly isnt the first or last time a GaMetal remix has brought something of seriously good quality to my attention (Looking at you, Everhood and Bug Fables), The fact that this series - especially the Crossbell arc - in particular took so long to enter my radar is criminal.
Bless to all the trails fans who skyrocketted this single song to the top of the ballot. Were it not for you and the work of Geofront to effectively carry the localization, I wouldn't have found anything that could hold a place in my heart equally with Xenoblade. While this is my stopping point for actually playing the series due to repeat mentions of certain problems with Cold Steel, I'll be keeping up with the story as it unfolds.
TBH, the "problems" of cold steel depends on your own perspective. If you enjoyed Sky, Zero and Azure, I wouldn't doubt you would still have fun playing cold steel.
Kuro, on the other hand, is a huge different story...
@@zhaoluyue1995 The problem that tore me away the most was the fact Cold Steel 1-4 apparently leaned too far into crafts. Crossbell had that perfect blend of both arts and crafts and I figured that if Cold Steel's gameplay wasn't going to be nearly as strategic I'd just skip the gameplay altogether.
However, I did change my mind about Cold Steel 3 since I figured orders would be fun to mess around with in place of arts. Haven't gotten too far in so far, only just got to the first field study, but orders are living up to expectation so far. I still think the heavy handed simplification of the regular quartz that the Arcus has compared to the Enigma is a major downgrade in terms of gameplay (Balancing the stats they provided with their element points was the whole reason that the quartz lines even exist in the first place), but im having fun with the links, the return of CP self-regen to mitigate the cost of argem heal which was removed in Azure's equivalent on Ellie, the integration of chain attacks into the BP system as part of the decision making with BP to go with the orders, and crazily enough the knight battles are not as bad as ive heard (though I assume its because it was a lot worse in the first two games which I chose to watch the stories and the black records cutscene for context because most of the gameplay criticisms people discussed also pointed towards those two entries in particular.)
@@drakath5727 That's a legit complaint and I accept that the game play of Cold steel did changed a lot... Falcom has been trying to lean Kiseki series towards the Ys series for quite a long time.
However, the wildest (and cheapest) way to beat Cold steel (the whole series from 1 to 4) is still no cooldown arts from Emma and Altina...
@@drakath5727 I'd say don't let it get you down. I enjoyed the arts focus of the Sky games, but I also quite enjoyed the crafts focus of the Cold Steel saga. And there are plenty of great mages in Cold Steel if you want to use them, especially on the support side. Elliot is my favorite mage since he's a great healer and support, followed by Emma who is just magical Laura in terms of how busted she can be with magic damage.
Still going through cold steel 3 here but I figured I'd mention that i am SO excited to play Daybreak, from what ive seen of reviews the new game fixes all my problems with the series' combat as a whole while also bringing back stuff that I think shouldn't have been removed in Cold Steel.
You didn't. Holy crap, this is my favorite final boss theme, from my favorite game. I've never managed to find a full cover of this, let alone one this amazing. You're a legend.
I wanted to listen to this upload so badly when it released years ago but I finally got to beat Trails of Azure tonight and now I'm glad I waited. Hearing both the game and your cover side by side still gave me the same excitement like I was experiencing that ending again for the first time.
You may not read this GaMetal but thank you so much for covering one of the best battle BGMs I've heard ever. I am happy to be a fan of Trails

Trails in the sky fc is an amazing starting point if you're okay with more dated graphics and gameplay, but I find that starting in Cold steel to get a feel for the world and maybe switching over to the older games once you have a taste before finishing the cold steel series proper is a good idea as well!

@@shroomoid9403 Ha, I kind of figured you saw it on Silver Will if I was getting called out on it here. It's a pretty ridiculous story though, I can't deny, ha ha. Funnily enough, we actually don't even know where most of the votes for this song came from; only something like 20 of the 74 votes this song got are from people we know are on the server. Really surprised we got such a big turnout for it.
It's a bit of a surreal experience, though, seeing this song close out 2021 after a landslide ballot victory... and I'm directly responsible for it. I never would have dreamed this possible back when I found this channel half a decade ago now.
Was definitely not expecting a game that hasn't even been released in English to be the #1 Song that was voted. Kinda blows my mind. Show's how good the Music of the Legend of Heroes is.

The Azure Arbitrator, Dancing Mad, The Battle for Everyone's Souls. In no particular order, these are the best RPG final boss themes for me.
You can tell Jonny was having a blast making this and I loved every second of it.

My personal all-time favorite is The Merciless Savior from Trails in the Sky SC but I won't argue with you all of those songs are amazing on their own right.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, YEEEEEEEESS!!!!!! I can't possibly describe how just seeing the thumbnail gave me an instant massive smile on my face. I am so ready for this! This song is one of the best in the series!
Also, that outro was an absolute bliss, loved the video editing along with that finality. Makes me want to jump right back in and replay the game (but I'd like to do so with the official localized product once it comes in 2023, around 12 years after its initial release, getting over the barrier and breaking through to the western audience!)

I've set myself a goal that when Zero, Azure and Reverie release in the west, I'm gonna binge the entire Trails series, all 10 games, back-to-back.
I realize that's gonna be a really long and arduous journey that'll probably take me the better part of half a year, if not longer, and I'll probably end up missing out on other releases because of it, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
I want to experience what the world of Trails has to offer after hearing so much praise about it. Especially after having gone through all the Ys games and Tokyo Xanadu, I have every reason to believe Falcom can deliver on Trails as well.
I’ve been playing the series since 2019, and I’m only just now finishing the 9th and most recently released (in the west) game in the series. You’re in for one hell of a ride. Take your time with it, and have fun!
Careful not to burn yourself out. I say this as someone who started playing this series back in February of 2020. I'm currently on Cold Steel 3 (the 8th game in the series). I've definitely needed to take breaks between some of the games to process everything and I think it might be a good idea to take like a month or so break between arcs to both avoid burnout and to catch up on other things. There's no need to rush, and from my own experience I think I've enjoyed the series more because I took little breaks between arcs.
Just about done with Cold Steel 4. Started with Trails in the Sky back in April 2021. Definitely pace yourself, but I recommend playing each arc back to back.
Trails in the Sky is hands down my favorite RPG of all time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I first heard of the Trails series through this song, actually, and Falcom as a whole. The song was so good that I wondered where it came from, but was somewhat disappointed when I learned that there was no official western release for the game at the time.
I didn't play any Trails games for years after, but it was always in the back of my mind. Coincidentally enough, it was your arrangement of Silver Will along with a well timed Steam sale that finally convinced me to start the series with Trails in the Sky at the beginning of this year.
The games have been an absolute joy to play through, and I'm still making my way through Cold Steel 2. I was eagerly awaiting your next Trails cover and the wait was worth it! An excellent song to cap off the year with. Here's to another great year of GaMetal in 2022!

You madman, you finally did it.
This is probably one of the most memorable final boss themes ever, so it's cool to see that you covered it. A lot of Falcom's high energy tracks go pretty crazy, but this one is about as unforgettable as Silver Will. Coming in with the guitar after the opera bit at 6:20 is still sick and you did it justice.

I’m a final fantasy fan, through and through, and also a musician. So safe to say i’ve digested all soundtrack-related content. With that, i have to say: this theme is up there with the best final boss themes. Hands down.

Also, sorry for asking so many songs in the comments, I decided to lower my list of requests and stop requesting in the comments for some months.
As for the final song of the year, well, I never played any game from this franchise, but once again, it's good to listen to songs from games you never played so you can learn about great videogame soundtracks without playing the game.

For fans of Trails of Cold Steel who don't know, this is from the second of the 2 games that take place after the acclaimed Trails in the Sky series, the introduction to the world,, and before (and slightly during) the Trails of Cold Steel games. The Crossbell Arc. Trails of Zero and Azure.
They are fully fan translated and a ton of fun.
Trails of Azure and Trails from Zero are getting localized in the next years ;)
Fully translated official versions will be out in Fall of next year for Zero and early 2023 for Azure as well

You need to play the Crossbell arc to understand many events in Cold Steel 2 and especially 3. Crossbell has some tiny details that happen during the Cold Steel games that weren't even released yet, because some events happen at the same time, but its minimal.
In other words, its best to just play the games in order of release....
Sky 1, Sky 2, Sky 3, Zero, Azure, and then the Cold Steel games 1-4.
This is the maximum enjoyment method of one of my favorite RPGs of all time, and the only times you'll get confused is a few rare times in Azure. This I can say from experience.
In theory, there might be a way to play the Cold Steel and Crossbell games in such a complex chapter order that you never get spoiled by anything, but its not worth it.

I love all of the arcs, and I don't think one is better then the others. However, if there is one thing i agree with, it's that the Azure Arbitrator is the best final boss theme in the series. I love every theme, but this one is different. With the exception of the final boss theme in Sky 3rd, this is the only final boss theme in the seires to have orchestral rock.
And what a delivery you gave us. You did this song the justice it deserved. Thank so much! Anyway, have a happy year, everyone. Let us hope more bangers shall come from this channel.

A surprise (but still awesome) choice to be sure, and well done basing it on both the original and Evolution's take. I can't wait to play both Crossbell titles once they get released overseas. The only caveat is that they won't be dubbed, especially since all the major characters have official English VAs thanks to Cold Steel, but I guess it's a small compromise in order for us to play the legendary duology that we've been pondering over for years. We've lived through the adventures of Estelle and the Bracers as well as Rean and Class VII, now it's time for Lloyd and the Special Support Section to show us what they fought so hard for in Crossbell. Looking forward to your remixes in 2022 as well.
