    Drafting plus singing "Love Hime" will boost you so much...

    To all newbies, 1) please guard ur front wheel and dont overlap (main cause accident). 2) watchout leaders signal on object ahead (that goes the same if if ur leading, a group will crash onto what u are heading). 3) dont draft while downhill (you can stop downhill) 4) safety first. If tired then dont follow. That team is too strong for you. Cos if you fainted, the person behind you will crash onto you. 5) most of all, enjoy drafting

      6) when you are in front of the pack, keep on pedaling while going downhill. Never stop pedaling.

      7) If you draft random person, say hi

      7.a) if you draft a random person say hi and let them know you are drafting him/her. If that person does not realize you are drafting both of you can crash

    Ok, but don't just tuck yourself behind some other rider in the public, they may not understand what is going on and will probably panic!

      @WillFaustCuber 3 года назад +1

      If they look like a serious rider it's usually pretty safe, as long as you have your hands on the brakes and are aware of your surroundings.

      I do draft in back of strangers but they never had panic about it. Maybe because i keep 1,5meter distance and they are always road bike riders and im pretty shure they know whats going on. Nice to know that i give them also benefits trough this.

    Great job indeed! I am quite new in a bike's world, but is easy to know that the guy in the front hates that drafting?

  • @lgarcia67
    @lgarcia67 Год назад +1

    If you have a power meter you can actually see the watts drop the margins he says: 40-50%. If you are in the middle of a large team, then the feeling is like if you are going downhill. In other words, it feels like you are making no effort. It is pretty cool actually and the whole team can easily go 25 mph.

    You should point out that letting your front tire touch the rear tire of the bike ahead of you will in most cases cause you to crash (no problem for the front rider). There is a physical explanation but it's long. Some of your graphics show riders overlapping wheels, which is dangerous, you should fix that and add a warning.

    • @alexanderfoelkel8316
      @alexanderfoelkel8316 6 лет назад

      With a strong crosswind it would be very normal. If you don't want to lower risks just stay at home pls.

    • @paulflory3532
      @paulflory3532 6 лет назад +2

      Alexander - Yes you overlap in a crosswind (or when finishing a stint at the front), but not as close to the rear tire of the bike ahead as you would be if you were in a direct pace line and got going a little too fast.
      I can recall two people crashing as a result of touching my rear tire: one in a club ride and one in a race. Usual injury is a broken collarbone, sometimes a concussion.
      But, hey, try touching the tire ahead of you! And keep us posted on how your rehab is going!

    Great video. What about the speed and the wind direction? For example, if there is a strong tail wind, is it more beneficial to break and cycle parallel to each other so the wind pushes everyone? Also is there any speed that drafting below it doesn't have much benefits? For example, if someone the group is going 20kmph, does it even matter to draft compared to drafting while going 40kmph? Thanks

    • @blizzbee
      @blizzbee 3 года назад

      Drafting benefits the rear riders in every wind direction and every speed level, i would say. Except when you are riding in extreme heavy wind... I mean extreme.
      Because when you move forward, there will always be wind dragging from the front and that drag is reduced by the rider on front of you even when riding slowly.

    • @calebgonsalves2970
      @calebgonsalves2970 2 года назад +3

      In a tail wind the wind is still slower than the rider, so relative to the rider the wind doesn't push them, it just slows down.
      However in crosswinds where the wind comes at an angle compared to where the riders are moving the peloton arranges itself in a line going along the trajectory of the wind.
      Drafting always gives you a benefit, even at 10kmph you still save energy and I'd recommend doing it whenever you comfortably can although, the proportional energy you save will be less than at 40kmph.
      Let's say 400watts to go at 40kmph
      And. say 200watts to go at 20kmph
      You may save 150watts from drafting at 40kmph
      Whereas at 20kmph you may only save 50 watts. But that's a bunch. It can easily help you go 3-4 kmph faster
      Also factor in that ever mph you go faster, the effect of drag squares. So MASSIVE savings the faster you go

  • @gehirndoper

    Always enjoyed having the rare bike ricer that was faster than my on my commuting bike for that reason. I had to put in less work. The best drafting you get is behind trucks though. Not too dangerous imo, as a biker can stop faster than them I think.

    you forgot to mention that drafting helps more the more speed of group is.
    on 20kmh the drafting savings are not noticeable at all, at 30kmh+ it's huge

    Thanks to drafting I went 50 km/h for a few kilometres behind a roadie with a cross country bike

  • @angrypotato97
    @angrypotato97 6 лет назад +2

    I think its very important to metion that the effect from drafting is more pronounced the faster you go.
    At 20 km/h, the benefit from siting on someone's wheel will be pretty marginal, whereas at 40 kmh, it'l be 30-40%

      Hey Bogdan,
      Do you know what's the effect of drafting uphill? Especially in the case of MTB Marathon where the climbs can be 2-15 minutes long and 4-15% steep...?

    Does it work in climbs? At low speeds for example 14km/h or less

    • @mergym
      @mergym 3 года назад +2

      On a climb the fight against gravity is more important. Thats why cyclist try to loose weight so the climbs are easier. The slower u are the lesser is the wind a faktor.

    Quite impressive i might say, imagine what a Tandem bike could do

    • @paulsmart749
      @paulsmart749 2 года назад

      Tandems are excellent in this regard particularly on the flat, they punch a huge hole in the air, so the benefit for following riders is significantly increased. In a sportive we have seen up to 15 solos on our tail. They generally pass us on the next ascent though.

    Interesting that the video claims 4% advantage to the leader. Usually when someone tucks in behind me it feels like the effort required to then maintain speed is greater than riding alone.

    Its like the 6th UK RUclips channel to push people riding bikes... It's over, Brits has figured out Sky is a fraud and they are not special. Hopefully Alpin roads will soon be less crowded with rich overweight british posers in full Rapha kit
