hi everyone. It is with great sadness that i leave this pinned comment. Most beautiful sweet Jane Birkin has passed away today. Please say a prayer for her memory. Thank you
Black Light Nightclubs?...YES!!...they had those in Montreal for a few years. Montilla wine must go well with blacklight...i can only imagine! Thanks for sharing franciscoramos1327!
Not to take anything from Peter who has done an epic job but see above for the correct wprds and translations for some of the parts - serge is too cool to be as we expect and he is more graphic haha
maria dimmi....quando era la prima volta che tu hai ascoltato questa canzone. Ti ricordi? Io si.....pero non capiva I respiri di Jane. Mi piaceva solamente la sua voce. Era piccolo allora la sua voce era gigante e bellissima.....era veramente la voce di un angela nella mia immaginazione di fanciullo.
ha ha...me too! I miei genitori hanno immigrato al canada quando aveva 9 anni e io parlava solo siciliano e un poco di tedesco nuovo arrivato a montreal. Pero il mio padre ascoltava la radio francese nella casa. e per questa raggione ho conosciuto questa canzone che ha iniziato il mio amore della musica. E senza questione la piu bella canzone d'amore scritta....ciao maria...talk later
0:37 a native French speaker told me that he's saying: J'y vais et je *reviens*, although it's very subtle. "Je vais" is not actually not grammatically correct French. This would change the translation to: I go there and I come back. 01:23: same thing here, this should be : Tu y vas et tu reviens (You go there and you come back)
i just came back from France. It was my first time. June 22 I saw Mylene Farmer in concert, and 3 days later i stood in front of the Eiffel tower for the first time! Two of my dreams realized. Paris a beautiful city isn't it?
ouch. That must have stung. Oh well. You will see the Eiffel tower hopefully one time. It is so beautiful. I asked around and went to the spots where "Je T'aime" was filmed.
Great you did this - to let you know - the translation for "entre tes (mes) reins" is 'between your (my) kidneys' as he is inside her and in that position to be graphic - and they go on to talk about restraining themselves (like Frankie Goes to Hollywood saying 'relax don't do it..'.) - her 'rejoining' him and lots of 'viens' - 'come' as in the climax sense - thighs is 'cuisse' and against is 'contre' but the lyric is 'entre' - I have many French friends and this is defo correct and hope its useful :)
thank you. i appreciate your comment. But i stand by the equivalency i chose. I am not writing that you are wrong, because translation in of itself is an inexact thing- always hovering between the spirit of the sentiment and the letter of the law. But, having stated that, translating that line as "between your thighs" is correct and makes sense within the meaning of the official french lyrics. It's true that "cuisse" is the exact equivalent to my "thighs", and not "reins"...yes, but i believe in this case, that line contains what is known as a "false friend"- and that "reins" is the false-friend in this case. French and English have many words which etymologically are connected, but they mean totally different things. For example, in English you will say "weight-lifter", whereas the equivalency in French would be "culturiste"...even though "culture" is a a word- both in English and in French- that means exactly the same thing when speaking about art and sculpture and society and stuff......but "culture" is a false-friend because it has also clear differences in meaning. If a French speaker would tell an English speaker that he is a "culturiste", the English person would not understand that he is talking about doing weights. I believe it's the same with this song. An english person will never say "kidneys" as the general area (whether inside or outside of the human body) describing the thigh-region, the pubic region, or the belly-button region. An english person might say "on her stomach", but never "on her kidneys" and certainly not "in her kidneys". "Kidneys" means only one thing in English, the bological organs, and it has no sexual nuance to it whatsoever in english. So that's why chose "thighs". I did see other versions where the translator had written in "kidneys", but to me it's less exact as an english equivalency. I thank you for your comment. Even if i didn't convince you. It's not the important thing. The important thing is we both love this song. By the way, i know the words to that FGTH song "relax"...sang it in bars for years...i love that song too!!!! It's true, it's about the exact same topic. Have a great day bootes day
oh i should add!!! you know if i were to do this song in italian? ( i speak italian as well), i would use the literal equivalent to "reins", because in italian, the sexual nuance is contained in the italian word "i reni"....it's the same as in French...thanks again
me too. "Je T'aime" was a hit in parts of the english-speaking world. It was also banned in many other countries as well. I knew this song as a child and before i myself spoke french. It was not banned in Quebec, where it played on both english and french stations. Thanks for sharing franksamaroo8579
definitely! In 1971, before videos and computers, all music had to be bought. The only "free" music was to listen to the radio. This song was considered "vulgar" and it was banned on the radio in some countries, but people would buy the record anyway. So it was strange because it showed up as number 1 in the sales charts, but you would never hear it on the radio. And yes, there are stories that 9 months after this song came out, there was an uptick in births in France...lol.....which is beautiful, cause this song is about Love. Have a great day Phoenix Gomes
