I know this video is 4 years old but this video is absolutely amazing and well put together. Shenmue is one of my favorite gaming franchises out there and this video does a good job at summarizing the story of the series for people who haven't played the games.

The storry seems to be really that 'non over the top realistic experience' i look for in the hasty overpowered ever-one-is-a-hero gameworld. The storry seems to unfold slowly and there seems to be much alongside the way, memorable characters and over all a special atmosphere. Thank you for proving people wrong, that Shenmue 3 is just for lovers of the other parts.
I have beaten and got Platinum Trophy of Shenmue 1 & 2. It was the first time for me and now I want to know the sequel 💛 I am just watching this video because I like this game so much.

I was actually watching a Let's Play of Shenmue 2 and was having a hard time finishing. I beat the first one but I'm half way through the 2nd one and just wanted to jump to Shenmue 3. This touched on all the key points of the game without slogging through the first two games. Liked and Subbed.

Man, I just had this crazy daydream where they remastered Ryo’s dad’s death. The daydreams in Shenmue were A huge part of the series for me. I don’t know if they’re still there, but remaking some of those daydreams or even some of those dreams he would have of Shenhua would be next level nostalgic. Even if there was some kinda of dream where Ryo is running around in the areas from Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 and if it was in first person view, it’d be an experience that would be out of this world!

The entire Shenmue story from my theory: Xiuying is related to Lan Di. Her brother left her to seek revenge and revenge consumed himwhich is why she doesn’t want that to happen to Ryo. Ryo watched his dad die in his dojo and Ryo got his ass kicked leaving him with A band aid on his face. Lan Di has A scar on his face from the same experience when Lan Di’s father was killed in their dojo by Ryo’s dad. Ryo’s dad kicked Lan Di’s ass and Lan Di sought revenge just as Lan Di kicked Ryo’s ass and now Ryo seeks revenge. Ryo and Lan Di have the exact personality and experience, but I have A feeling Ryo will forgive Lan Di and he will turn down the chance to kill Lan Di so he doesn’t become consumed by the revenge like Lan Di. There’s still like 3 or 4 games left, but what you think of my assumption? Convincing? In Shenmue 2 when Lan Di is on the helicopter you can see the resemblance and that’s how I got this theory and if you played Shenmue 2 and heard Xiuying’s childhood story it’s exactly like she sees Ryo as her brother and that’s obvious, but I think it’s obvious for other reasons than just showing her worrying and caring.
I played Shenmue & Shenmue 2 a few years ago but this is a perfect refresher now I am so much more excited for Shenmue 3. I will always stan my boy Ryo Hazuki and his quest for revenge I can't wait for him to kick Lan Di's ass.
Both games were so we'll put together I still have the one for my Dreamcast and two for my Xbox I just downloaded them both for my 360 be waiting on part 3 for the longest

Hold on! Something doesn't add up! At 15:24 - Ryo needs to meet Lishao Tao, at 17:05 - he is no longer at the address in the letter and the current resident says "he" is at man mo... something. But when Ryo gets there he then says he is looking for Youn Dow Zhu at 17:17. How did Ryo know about Youn Dow Zhu in the first place.
in Shenmue 1 ryos father got a letter from Yuanda zhu. the letter came too late(after ryos father was killed). Ryo knows yuanda zhus name from the letter. he is connected to his father. Master chen doesnt know where Yuanda Zhu is, he only can provide ryo with the help of some other master(Lishao tao). so master chen gave him the address to lishao taos apartment in hope that he(the game wants you to think that lishao tao is a guy) could help him about the whereabouts of yuanda zhu.
Damn, waited almost 20 years for part 3. Loved the games on Dreamcast, I still have the games and the console. The games still look pretty nice today. Hadn't a chance to play it last year, but I will play it in a few days now. I didn't really have time. anyway..waited for 20 years..so what's another year.
great video but in my opinion after you see this vid you better go and play shemmue 1 and 2 on pc and start shemmue 3 at the end of 2 you will feel much more connected to the game and story characters and the cant wait feeling that shemmue 2 leave you with , and for us old games left us for so many years.... lucky you
You missed some of the lore, like the 3 blades, the celestial connection with the mirrors, and the meaning behind the saying "mother's earth comrades, father's heaven, 9 dragons".
Indeed, I missed quite a bit. Needed to prioritise to keep under 30 minutes. All you mentioned and more bar the celestial connection was written but cut out in the edit. 😔
