If you listen carefully, you will hear a man in the audience laughin. out loud. He can also be heard laughing in the audiences to the "Dirty Hungarian" sketch and the "Spam" sketch. It must be a relative of Eric Idle or one of the Pythons.
Well the last comment was intended as sarcasm, I am one of those mad history buffs. Palin's face is actually quiet a good resemblance to the real Louis XIV. His entourage is quiet realistic in appearance.
No Louis XIV died in 1715, and he could not give thousands of francs to anyone because the franc currency didn't exist until the 1790s, 1792 after Louis XVI's downfall in the French Revolution, or was it 1789 when they introduced it? One of the two. In Louis XIV's time it was the Livre a proud achievement of his making one of Europe's first paper currency in 1701. Once more the wigs warn by most resemble the early reign of Louis XV around the 1730s, cut of clothing too.
I don't know anything about ballooning, but I am pretty sure this is not a good representation of its golden age. There's not even a baloon in this video.
+yu stu well the original plans of the mongolfier brothers balloons are lost so at least they got that right and there is a balloon at the beginning of this part the (former) dirty mongofier's wife is hanging from it (i do wish you pay attention! i told you once!) also in the intro of each part there are a effing lot of balloons and in the zeppelin part there will be lots more also did you know that you can use condoms as balloons my wife blows.@$#&....------ we apologize for the the way this youtube video reaction was going we don't condone sexual innuendo's of any kind even if condoms do look like inflatable dicks! we apologize for the apology since it clearly refers to frontal nudity we apologize for the apology's apology we are truly really absolutely so fucking sorry! we are sorry for the apologists apologies please ignore them we took the apologist outside and shot him! yours truly the BBC (Mrs)
I do personally tie balloons to my ankles in the evenings. And I do duck down and shout out "Hey! Balloons!" when there are none about. The Cleese-less episodes are unfortunate in many regards. But two of them are excellent. And this is one of them. The other is the Michael Ellis episode. Light Entertainment War ain't bad either. These are still classic Python, even without John.
Point taken, just some facts for you :) I have a compulsion to state historical inaccuracies. That said: Within the realm of the sketch the glaswegian king is meant to be an imposter, the humour stems from the fact that nobody notices, and not that the fact that the real Louis XIV didn't die in 1717, or that the Franc currency was not re-introduced until 1795, having been abolished by Louis XIII in 1641. It is an unintentional error on the script editors part.
Since this is a "Cleeseless" episode, and you don't actually see Mr. Bartlett. You can safely say John Cleese plays Mr. Bartlett. I don't wanna have to explain my jokes, but i'm afraid no one will "get it".
"You have come from Paris?"
"Where?" - Brilliant!!
I actually named my neighbor's dog Balloono because of this sketch.
Does it REALLY matter? This sketch was meant to be funny, not accurate. If it was, then the "King of France" wouldn't sound Scottish.
Now, WOULD IT?!
After this sketch I had a dream about the woman with huge....you know....
"Oh I"m so sorry I didn't realize..."
"It's all right, we've done the difficult bit."
lol I'm glad it wasn't just me seeing that as a bit kinky.
"and shout: Hey balloons, when zer are non about." Gotta love Carol Cleveland

Is that what's known as a "Glasgow kiss" when Louis the So-Called King of France man head butts Joseph?

Blimey, Terry Jones looks especially lovely and svelte in this. (Not that he didn't look lovely before. He most certainly did ;) )
Love Love Love Michael Palin!

I suppose you don't believe the Spanish Inquisition was portrayed accurately eiter....
Funny how Palin could do the nice guys and the shady characters (like Luigi Fricoti too).
Ooo paratroops… It’d be a shame if one of them was to catch on fire…

Dont you mean Louis XIV....oh JOSEPH!!! in a towel!!! When did he die again?!
louis xiv died in 1715, not 1717
@PhilipineMan oh im sorry! my bad! i just meant that i found it funny that he was very obviously not french lol
what is that random guy in the corner doing? O.o
Uh... I got most of the jokes, but where did all that stuff about a canal and a railway come from?
@unclebud99 I dunno, but the scar he has on his mouth is known as a "Glaswegian Smile" - if your wondering how you get them, watch 'The Dark Knight'.
what is the man in the background doing at 1:43?
@Endrawnia If you look at the beginning of part 1 you'll find out
@123kasabian He had definitely lost some weight at that time. He was chunky in the seasons 1 through 3.
Scotland is a part of Britain.
Is Mr. Bartlett related to Michael Ellis?
Personally I spend most of my time studying WWI.
He's a plumber, fixing the pipes. What they are for
is not known. Maybe for Joseph's numerous washings.
Lol.
Scottish.
and I would totally watch The Golden Age of Colonic Irrigation.
Fish slapping dance .... ( ? ) ..... DAVE™ 🛑
terry jones has a six pack.
Who are the two Flatnoses with Louis?😮. 🤓😎✌🏻🇬🇧
I'd like to see Carol's 🎈 balloons🎈 🥰😍😘. 🤓😎✌🏻🇬🇧
Glaswegian King of France and Mr. Bartlett
awkward pause at its best..
Not with each other, obviously

Thumbs up!
The Golden Age of Ballooneys.
well spotted!
Carol Cleveland.
"Is France really in the grip of a Glaswegian monarch?"
King Louis' henchmen don't ever seem to blink, do they?
His accent is awesome!
i don't get the bit with chapman's ovations about mr. bartlet's gone sir?
@sondano= Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
@MultiMudaki Not really.
PAAAAHress
no, proberbly not.
The harnass the woman is wearing for instance is a very modern desing, her sleeves have a 1970s cut shape to them. :)
love how the french king has a brittish accent lmao
