  • Since first trying Luminar Neo a few months ago, I'm now frequently using the app alongside Lightroom and Photoshop. In this video, I walk you through how I'm using Neo, and which tools I'm especially fond of (that aren't available anywhere else).

I’m totally diving into the Colour Harmony tool after watching this. Was always scared of it, but your explanation of split toning demystifies it. Cheers

The one feature I found that I do like (but don't use that often) in Neo is the sky replacement. While it can be done in photoshop, I feel that Neo does a better job especially when it comes to it being more realistic (and I'm the type that tends to try to keep things as real to the original image (ie. replacing a cloudless blue sky with a blue sky with some clouds, not some strange sky). Some of the relighting tools are interesting too, although I think in other areas like AI spot removal and masking, it trails Lightroom.

What value do you get from having a light on top of your monitor?

This is what I hate about photo editing apps. Lightroom lacks the AI Remove and Generative Fill (I exclusively use it for removal) that Photoshop has. Lightroom does a pretty good job at AI masking and AI Noise reduction. Luminar Neo has fairly good AI assisted adjustment tools that automagically does some of the technical bits you would have to do manually in PS or Lightroom but lacks GOOD AI Removal and has OK De-noise tools. It is also much slower than LR and PS.
They all lack in critical areas.
I feel like Luminar Neo is on the right track but needs better AI removal, generative fill, and speed. However, I feel like you need to be an expert just to decode all the names of the tools and when to use them. Lightroom is good but it would be nice if they added AI assisted tools for some very common workflows that reduces time by doing the tedious technical bits for you.
