    I was a Michelin Commander 2 guy for years, but went to the Dunlop American Elite when the Commander 3 came out. I didn't trust that wide center strip on wet roads for the sake of a little extra wear. I absolutely loved the Commander 2's though; in my opinion that is the best touring tire ever made.
    I like the Dunlops and so far they're performing well for me.

    I've had really good performance with Michelin Commander 2 on my HD touring bikes. But when I bought my last set of tires Michelin were hard to get and went with the American Elites. The Elites, so far, are are giving good service. Recently, while on a trip in Arkansas, I was stuck in rain for about 3 hours and was very happy with the AEs performance in the rain. The AEs are holding good tread life so (I check my air pressure weekly which I believe is a must for good tire life).

    Not a Harley rider..... used to ride a Kawasaki Concours 14, now ride a Versys 1000 SE LT+. Too old to drag a knee any more, but still ride the twisties in a "spirited" fashion. I do a lot of multi-state tours, and ride in all sorts of weather. I tried Shinko, Bridgestone, Continental, Dunlop, and Michelin. The Michelin Pilot Road series (now just called "road") are hands down the best for my style of riding and bike.

    Both my 22' Indian scout rogue and 24' street triple RS 765 came stock with Pirellis.
    Ones on my Indian have oddly been very confidence aspiring even in the rain... and accidently going off the road a couple times... but are way too hard for my liking.
    Ones on my Street Triple have only been confidence aspiring on the track and I need to replace them asap. But sadly I didn't save a grand per set for quality tires and labor to have them replaced.

    This is my experience and opinion.
    Had the stock Dunlops when I bought my ‘07 CVO Ultra. They were a bitch to ride on uneven road surfaces. Especially roads that had the grooves cut into the road, prior to resurfacing.
    I changed to the Michelin commander series and never looked back! Reasonably priced and are perfect, even with the bike fully loaded for a three week trip with spouse on board.
    That, and upgrading the front and rear suspension made for predictable and stable rides for thousands of miles.
    The best part for me is, they last a good 50% longer than Metzler tires and do not cup.
    Where you at? I live in Spicewood just NW of Austin. Where do I find info on the Three Sisters ride?

  • @michaela524
    @michaela524 2 месяца назад +1

    2014 Harley Softail. Looking for a higher mileage tire, I switched from stock dunlop to commander2 in 2015. Commander2s rode great and pushed my mileage up to average of 20K rear and 27K front.
    I moved to the Commander3s in 2020. Very unsatisfied as the rear had a belt show through at less than 18K and the front vibrates at 50 MPH when the bike is not leaning. Michelin admitted to a tread pattern design flaw in their initial run of commander3 front tires which caused the vibration. They would not honor my warranty claim so I am stuck with the vibration.
    I have since switched to the Dunlop American Elite. They seem to ride great. Too early to tell about the mileage. Won't be going back to Michelin any time soon.

    Michies are VERY good (had them five or six times) but Pirelli and METZLER's are FAR, FAR better, but cost double or in the case of lots of Metzler's as much as twenty times what Dunlops sell for. The Metzler UU-rated radials for my 1994 GSV-500SR Suzuki 500cc two-stroke are currently $3860 a pair plus tax and S&H. Metzler sells the ONLY UU (186 MPH) speed rated tires that are DOT legal for I think six models of cycles. BTW, tires are like bananas, they and gasoline "spoil" in storage. For "on-off road" bikes, Kenda's (made in Taiwan) while ONLY tube-type, are very, very good tires.
