THIS interview has shined a light on EVERY!THING! Bout why i love Crooked So damn much !! Big UP Crooked ! AND Big UP Talib For having him on..love this show
Awesome podcast here, I like hearing stories from rappers and their experiences with 2Pac. Crook is not one to ever be slept on, he's held down the West forever, and the living legend will continue to do so. Look forward to hearing Kweli on Crook's Corner!
Crookedi a real one! His old school sway freestyles are legendary! We knew he down with Raza! Mexicans been showing him mad love. Talib you a dope dude man! Your interviews are genuine. You will be bigger than Rogan! 💯💯🙌🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I met King Crooked at the Statik King album release party in 2016 for his Statik Kxng album he did with Statik Selektah. I got to meet him, statik, Termanology & Ras Kass after the show, and not only did they completely put it down that night with bars, but they were all mad humble including Crooked. That showed me that he’s not afraid to still reach out and touch the people even after that incident where he shook a fan’s hand and he almost got shot at. I got to take pictures with them after the show and I still got them up on my wall salute to king crook. He’s a real one fore sure!
I'm hooked on these. Ya'll talk about everything Hip Hop and I can't get enough. Only thing I wish you did more of was play music and break down bars. I'm Talib Kweli's age. I'm less than a month older than him. I put out my first demo in 1987 when I was 11. I have been rapping and writing since I was 6. When I was young I knew I could never be accepted as a rapper in the climate of the time, but I loved it too much to stop. I even had a trainable voice and was a good singer. Yet I still rapped and wrote raps. Started playing guitar and piano at 8. Never went anywhere with that professionally either. However I love Hip Hop. And above all I love the Hip Hop community. When I was 8 it accepted me without judgment regardless of my blue eyes and white skin. The Rock Steady Crew came with a DJ to my elementary school sponsored by Bam and Zulu Nation. They put on a Hip Hop seminar. Crazylegs taught me how to pop and lock, groundwork, backspin, windmill and even got me into a headspin before my time was up. The DJ let me scratch records and they let me rap. That one experience changed my artistic output 100%. And I wish more people got what I did. It wasn't until I saw Prime Minister Pete Nice that I thought much different about the industry as a career and not much at that. 3rd Bass was a novelty act in the public eye, although underground they were well regarded. RA Da Rugged Man came out a few years later and never went mainstream like, say, Eminem, but again was a local underground sensation (I'm originally from LI,NY). I can thank MC Serch for finding Nas i'd suppose but someone like Nas was going to be discovered irregardless. None of these things could change my mind about a career, but I still kept writing. So, now at 44, while I slowly am eaten alive by adenocarcinoma, I decided I would start making music again. So far I have 4 records i'm proud of and 1 that needed more work than I know how to do in Pro Tools. And listening to Crooked I say my favorite words: I do this for the art, not the money, if the money comes, it comes, reinforced that. If 10 people in the entire world listen to what I put out that's great. if 10 million do, even better. In the end the only person I am trying to be better than is myself yesterday. And I love listening to my own work. Thank you for this Talib Kweli. I've been a fan since I could come to the park and get laughed at. When I looked up "Hot new hip hop 1998" on Yahoo @ 56k bps Definition was what came up. I listened to it and realized it had an 8 bit video game sound and a tough beat. It was dope. Then I heard the bars. I then realized the dudes from the park cyphers made it.
