This man will not have to deal with bugs
For me the charm of the rock garden was the assortment of different volunteer plants clinging to the sides. Fascinating. Especially the ferns
Very cool, I'm glad that there are such enthusiastic people, I love watching your videos. Greetings from sunny Crimea.
Can you please do a video on feeding your plants
Absolutely beautiful rock gardens!! I wish I lived near Oregon so I could visit the nursery and see them for myself.
They have visitation (open house) only 3 times a year. If you can ever make it, I feel it is well worth the trip. I went to the July and September events this year and bought a lot of plants each time.
Why can I only give one thumb up to videos I love? These are beautiful, I love how some of the plants spread on their own. I'm looking forward to that podcast. I'm just starting to grow my own plants so I think I'm a few years away from a rock garden like you have. It's a good thought to keep in mind though. Forgive me if this was mentioned somewhere else, but I've always wondered if you have any kind of circulation going in the water for all the pools? Or is it just the pond?
Following.
When I move to North Carolina I'll do something like this
fantastic display of 18 years of work!
This is so cool! I never knew this was possible!
Please can you do a step by step video to show how to make a rock garden
He just did num nuts. Lol did you pay aby attention.
@@ordepzevahc5211 No he didnt
They show the garden but not actually starting from a bare rock. I’d like to see them drill the hole and what they put in it.
@@shaunkelly9053 they just uploaded 2 new videos one where they drill the holes and what type of rocks to use
@@ordepzevahc5211 bruh this was commented 3 years ago. back before that video was uploaded
These are beautiful! I have to find the video about making my own!
wow.. this place is like the nation of carnivorous plants..
envious
How beautiful! Love it. Thanks for your sharing
Amazing rock gardens.
What size holes do you recommend drilling? And what spacing?
Just gorgeous. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Cladonia lichens popping up everywhere.
I'm gonna make one from scratch. Looks fun!
Amazingly beautiful!
Marvellous display.. Do you have a tip for me as a beginner please on how to prevent the moss from drying out in individual pots when it is hot sunshine?
Beautiful work!
Beautiful carnivorous plant rock garden!
Amazing collections of carnivorous plant
looking forward to see the demo on rock garden.
Have you made your "how to " rock garden video yet? Looking forward to trying one in Ohio.
Can you give me an idea of the dimensions of the pumice you use please? I can only find pieces about 10 inches diameter that have been in the ocean for a few years, it washes up on the beach and i have to soak it a long time to leach the salt out. I assume you pumice comes from a quarry.
Thanks you for sharing this, opens up so many options! Jeff you ROCK! pun intended....
1:52 how does the cobra lily grow underwater?
Do you think eastern Nebraska could house a rock garden like this? How do the plants winter?
Where is the podcast with step by step. the comments have so many questions about this
B E A utiful my friends.. Inspiring to say the least
Absolutely beautiful.
Good video
Fantastic video!!!
These are beautiful.
Where is that upcoming podcast for making a rock garden?
Great video. I'm new to the channel. Where is the step by step video on how to make the rock gardens? I'd love to try this!
do you have any fish in your ponds""."
Very nice. What kind of material is the black floating pad with recessed pots made of?
It's some sort of styrofoam.
Can this survive the tempreturs in our uk winter
This is just amazing. What kind of rock do you use? I always understand "Pommes", what means "french fries" in Germany ;-)
_cephalotus
They are taking about a type of volcanic rock called pumice.
Lots of small holes from air bubbles popping as the lava cooled. Very light weight.
It is Pumice which is a volcanic rock that is porous.
In this video you reference a how to video. When will you post the how to video?
do you use distilled or RO water in the pond?
how hot is the area you live in, in summer, i want to try this in mediterreanen area
Where can we get those types of rocks? I’ve gone to lowes, Home Depot, and other nurseries around and no one has them.
I wished I could get a big pumice rock like that I live in Western Australia we don't have any pumice here as a matter of fact it's extremely hard to get in Australia is there anything else I can use besides that and how do you get sphagnum Moss to regrow please I love your video it is so pretty
Hy , do you put normal water or not mineral water in the pond? Drosera want less water than sarracena?
Omg! Thought the title was "Coronavirus planted rock garden". I need glasses. Great video! 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Dang, I didn't even realize those were anagrams of each other until now!
Do any of thease plants require shade? Or can they handle the full sun? As long as their in clean water? And where would you source this rock
Where do you get your rocks from? What do you use to drill holes in them?
I just checked the website but I did not see the plant within the rock do you sell the rock with the plant.
Inspiring! I wonder if this could be done with hypertufa -- or if the cement would raise the PH too much.
Pretty sure hypertufa contains too much calcium
What time of year is the best time to attempt these bog rocks? :D
ruuuey spring-summer
How do they go into dormancy?
Incredible
Is it ok if i use granite rocks?
Hello. What is the water parameter and tds of that pond? i was told that it needs to be at 0 TDS so we cant keep fish in it... if its still possible I would like to make one of these
how do you keep them in wintertime hope they don't freez over would be a waste very nice design too👍👍👍👍
See this month's podcast - November 2017. Unless it gets really cold for an extended period of time, no protection is needed in zone 8, where both Sarracenia Northwest and I are located.
I have left mine out when it got below 0 degrees F at night for about a week without any protection at all. The main threat is dehydration of the rhizome and, since there was no wind with that cold, I left the plants to themselves. All of my hundreds of plants survived just fine.
As Jeff and Jacob have stated, the plants are much hardier than all the books would have you believe. My experiences over the past 6 or 7 years bears this out.
But if the temperature were to get down to 20 degrees F or lower for several days and with a wind, I would cover any plants that still had pitchers on them.
beautiful,
Nice these are amazing
that's really amazing
Will these rock gardens survive in central Florida?
Random question: do frogs ever try to lay eggs in the ponds?🤔🐸
Yes they have tons of tadpoles in the pools
Where do you get such big rocks?
At 11:00 what is that
This is awesome!
So I’m assuming any rock garden has to be placed in a pool of water?
Yes, the rock needs to sit in water to keep the soil evenly moist. Otherwise, the soil will dry out very quickly. Thanks for watching!
Can you have fish in it?
where do you get a stone for that? I can only find small ones
Can we have a follow up video on how to make these? Thanks
They uploaded 2 new videos 2 years later lol
Do you filter your water ? If not how do you keep it clean and clear?
Following.
amazing + soo pretty !
What type of rock is perfect for rock gardens?
is that the only way to grow carnivorous plants in the garden?
what kind of bit do you use ?
Hi I have a bit of a complex here there's some people who say they use tap water but others who say they only use distilled rain or ro what do you think can you please let me know as this is urgent
You'll need to test your tap water for minerals before you can use it. I discuss this issue in my latest ebook. It's too involved to discuss here. If you're in doubt, use distilled water. If you want to use tap water, read the ebook for details.
www.growcarnivorousplants.com/The-Ultimate-Carnivorous-Plant-Guide-Ebook-p/01001.htm
Awesome!
hi, where do you find the water source? thank you in advance
Where in the world does one by pumice from?
Yes, they are hard to find. Even we have difficulty locating a reliable source.
Aww that something I want to do that beautiful
This man's voice reminds me of Bob Ross, I don't know why but it's extremely soothing
Aren't pumice stones filled with minerals? I thought carnivorous plants hate minerals, is this not entirely correct?
Where do you find porous rock that big? I haven't found anything like that around in Central Texas.
Look online for aquarium rock suppliers
How do they survive the cold winters?
Well, we've had them for up to 18 years. If you like how they look, I'd say they survive beautifully. Winter care is no different than potted plants.
@@SarraceniaNorthwest I've looked all over online and even called multiple quarry companies. WHERE did you find pumice of that size? I'm finding it hard to find anything over 10" across *sigh*
After 2 years no follow up video?
Dang this look nice
Oh! this gives me ideas :). But how do you get your moss to thrive? I'm in Louisiana, and my bog gardens get full sun. My sarracenia are thriving, but my moss just dies. Do I need to wait for the sarracenia to get taller/fuller to shade the bog before my moss will grow? Love your videos!
I don't know how they do it. Maybe the porous rocks wick more water to the roots of the moss. I am also in Oregon, like SNW, and the sphagnum moss does not seem to do well for me at all in all my bottom watered pots.
Thank you, buggsy5. When I had them indoors in a big terrarium (apartment living at the time, no outdoor space), the moss grew like mad. And it was on red lava rock, so maybe that's the trick. I may make some alterations next year.
Moss I believe needs a bright indirect light. Spaghnum with get fried, as I'm sure your aware of, with to much sun exposure.
Also moister like buggsy said and no fertilizer. I've been growing some nice stuff the past few months that turns red and white then to green with temp. Changes.
Put them in a high level of water like in a pond so the plants get enough water for the moss and so there are more plants that can grow it. duh
Am I to understand that these plants have never been replanted?
Ingenious.
Where do you get the rocks? I've Googled and I don't see any good sized rocks for sale.
Same question here! Whats the name of the rock material?
You need a porous igneous rock with no calcium. You can get them from an aquarium supplier. Sometimes described as Lava rock which is not a geological term. Size can be a problem. Google and email suppliers. Make sure it is natural. They will be typically light for their size.
What Kind of Stone are they using? I could'nt understand itGreetings from Germany

You guys need more venus fly traps.
the name of the channel is SARRACENIA northwest not flytraps northwest.
I'm going to buy a King Henry venus fly trap from you soon I just have to save up enough money
I bought a King Henry from them a couple of years ago and it is spreading like mad. I should probably divide it this next spring, but may let it go for another year.
It's a shame you just ignore all of your subscribers and never uploaded a step by step video of how to make one of these...
2 years later they finally uploaded 2 videos of the process. Its on their YT channel now
