    At the beginning of your video, you thanked all of your subscribers. But I'd also like to thank you. I've been watching your videos for several years.

    That bread recipe is more useful than people realize. I went camping many times carrying heavy bags of bagels (that eventually went bad), bringing packets of yeast (dough rising is a hassle), and trying to build bushcraft ovens (very little heat for the amount of firewood).

      Not a conventional flute, but an instrument sometimes referred to as a "Native American" flute. Unlike an actual flute, it's an in-line instrument more similar to a recorder or clarinet.

      +dwtlax Never the less, if it was not for you viewers, there would be very little reason for me to be doing these videos. The overwhelming majority of the comments on my videos have been *VERY* positive and uplifting to me. You folks just will never know what that has done for me. I am indeed thankful. This video avenue has enabled me to produce videos that many have said are very helpful to them. This has given me an oportunity to actually be able to help people in my own way on a global scale and in return, people from all over the world have let my know how thankful they have been for the videos. This in turn has been a huge blessing to me to hear how much my videos have helped and how thankful viewers are. You may be able to see by now that the benefits are circular, never ending. One helps the other which in turns helps the original again. We all benefit from each other.

      Buff Studly Most can apply here in rural NC, as well. :-) Record low temp is -5 F & record snowfall is 22", if memory serves. While our winter isn't as severe, don't think his summer temps are as bad as ours, either. So, excluding individual location extremes, much about being outdoors is universal. Thus, a lot of folks have an opportunity to learn from what he teaches, IMO.

    Awesome Video! My 5 Grandkids have been out of school this week and since they either live with me and my wife or live next door, I've been spending lots of time with them while their parents are at work! I don't let them spend all day watching TV or computers and such, I keep them outside around the campfire, gathering dead branches to burn and cooking on the fire. It blew their minds when we cooked IN the coals like this! My Granny taught me how to do this when I was their age (around 10) and I've done it more times than I can remember. Anyway, Thank You and Connie for such Wonderful Videos that actually teach outdoor living! Happy Thanksgiving to You and Connie!

    OK, I missed this older one Lonnie. Your excellent freestanding lean-to shelter; is a classic example of "here is one we prepared earlier'. That is a lot of work by a very skilled bushman. Well over 100 saw cuts of many collected tree limbs. Certainly a great instructional example.
    Aahhhh, damper cooked over an open fire, Aussie bush folk would spread Golden Syrup en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_syrup (light treacle or molasses) or strawberry jam. Yes, a 1 lb tin had its place to the bushman's tucker bag. As your bodily reaction clearly showed, at the end of a hard working day the sheer pleasure of damper spread with Golden Syrup was your just reward. Kind regards from Greg n Thailand

    We like to use the bark off of the old dead black jack oak trees. It is all over the place here and is easy to get. Like you say, just peel it off the tree or off the ground where it falls off the tree as long as it is dry. I thank you for all you have done for us over the years and all you have taught us. It has been a great pleasure to go there with you. Love the flute and opening. Have a great Thanksgiving and I wish you many more. Thank you

      +eric1970x Thanks for watching and the compliments. Yes our air here is generally pretty pure. Surprising enough though, we can, at times, have some of the worst air polution in the nation. It is during certain very cold spells when the wind is dead calm that we get what is called an inversion I believe. The wood smoke will come out of the chimneys and settle down on the ground and just gather and hang around.

    I've found thick pieces of pine bark to do well in this manner, too, which is fortunate in my area of the Upper Great Lakes, as there are plenty of big old pines that become windfall in storms and die partially standing up. Thanks for the reminder that some methods/resources put fewer demands on human energy in the wild, and thus are very valuable.

    Very good advice on using bark. We use it sometimes along w/ pinecones to start the woodstove. I do not know Alaska, but there`s what we call hardhack here in PA. It is in the viburnum family. It also is good for a nice, hot fire, and will still burn well when green. Smells good, too. Thanks

    Great video Lonnie!
    I don't think there are cottonwoods here on Prince Edward Island, but we have lots of poplar. I now have something else to keep an eye out for while I roam the woods!
    Thanks,

      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival  9 лет назад

      +TheSunkenGrave Thank you for the kind words. Our winters lately have not been harsh at all and actually we wish they were a little more "harsh" lol Connie and I have a remote cabin that requires us to travel on and cross several rivers, creeks, lakes and ponds in order to get there in the winter and the last few years weather has not cooperated very well. Evry time we can finally get out there, the weather warms up and we start getting concerned about overflow water running on top of the ice and also openings in the ice. The rivers here were freezing up nicely last week but this week has changed all that and is causing a big delay. Sooooo... we would like a little more harsh winter but like you said, not too harsh. :o) Atb

      +Far North Bushcraft And Survival I understand. What I really admire is that you are the "real deal." You live and can truly survive in a remote wilderness. I live in what is basically suburban Nashville so creature comforts are always at my disposal. I do enjoy driving about an hour away and camping out for a night or two in some really beautiful nature but I wouldn't last too very long if I had to live off that land like my ancestors. So much respect for you, Sir. You make great videos and I appreciate so much you sharing your vast knowledge. Someday I really want to try out that three log fire for heat.

      +Life Essentials 01 Yeah I often (though not always) just walk right from the house here out into the woods. +MTwoodsrunner I'm in the process right now of having a hand made freight canoe built for me that should be ready by spring. It won't be much good for paddling because of it's size but will be perfect for motoring up some remote rivers here in alaska. I will be putting a surface drive mud motor on it to enhance it's shallow water capabilities. Sure am looking forward to the adventures ahead.

    great vid lonnie, we have the big cottonwoods here too and i have often availed myself of their usefulness,they make a fine bowdrill set as well.also, the bigger slabs of bark make a good tray to put gathered tinder on or just a dry spot to set your pack. very useful tree indeed thanks again.

    • @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival
      @Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival  9 лет назад

      +trenton maloney I agree. I too have used the cottonwood wood for very good friction fire wood. I have heard that the bark makes for good low friction bearing blocks for friction fire but it seems to me to be just too soft and does not last very long. It only lasts for one or two uses before one has to start a new divot to hold the spindle. Other woods, bones or rocks make better bearing blocks
