    Kawasaki gave its middleweight Ninja 650 some serious attention for 2017. You can definitely feel the effect of the updates on the road, too. Ninja 650 ($7399), Ninja 650 ABS ($7799), Ninja 650 ABS KRT Edition ($7999).

      I did buy one! And I absolutely love it! The ABS saved my ass multiple times when the tires are still warming up. The bike is a little slower than other 600's but that's alright to me because everything about it is comfortable and it's nice to ride in to work on my 45 minutes commute. Also the torque is great and riding with friends is funny because I come out of curves ahead of them even on a "smaller" 600 :^) Would definitely recommend it myself!

      Just save! It'll happen eventually. If you're looking for the fastest bike though I'd look elsewhere as it has a lower top speed than the other 600's. It's wayyyy more comfortable and definitely a beautiful starting bike. I love mine!

    Tested one today. Seriously impressive, and that's coming from a 6-2 34" inseam guy with experience on a ton of bikes. I've also ridden the 2012 version of this bike and it's agricultural compared to this unit. Better suspension by far, better brake strength and feel, better wind control around the windscreen, better response of the engine in the lower half of revs. Just feels like you could rail this thing through some speedy sweepers and be confident. Would I buy one myself? Not over an FZ-07 funster, but it's a close 2nd for overall package. I was seriously not cramped on it. Seat foam was even good from factory which seems rare.
    What gets me is that ergonomics on the Ninja650 are a couple degrees easier than the Z900 per cycle-ergo. I'd say that's accurate by the seat of my pants. The Ninja having a shorter wheelbase and "looking" smaller. It's actually better fitting for a larger dude like me.

    Such a practical & an informative review without emotionally charged non-sense ! I am currently riding Ninja 300 and was torn between Ninja 400 and 650. After this review, I will likely go for 650 next year ! THANK YOU !!

      That's the smart way to go IMOZ. THE n400 is just too close to the 300 that if you're moving up it wouldn't be worth it IMO. And this is coming from a N400 owner!

    Great review man! I am getting a blue version of the 2018 model , today I think. I was already pretty much sold on this over the CBR650F, much due to its great price..I don't need all the extra hp of the Honda and with the Ninja's lesser weight, figure it's a trade off that would be close to even anyway.

    Nice insight into the dynamics of the bike. I'm planning to buy one but torn between. Z650 and this one ... which one should I go for ?
    Is it more maintenance heavy than a z650? Wouldn't riding long distances on this bike tire me out....my arms I mean due to the front lean ... slightly ..position?

    Was shopping for my first bike hours and hours of research and comparison from everything to a ninja 300 to a yamaha R1 and the moment a friend sent me a picture of this bike I knew it was the one. Seriously an amazing bike. I have the burnt candy orange model and I absolutely love it. First upgrades were a power commander yoshi exhaust and fender emliminator. That is really all you need for this bike. Now it sounds like a Harley and a CBR had a baby. Fun to ride and has just enough power to keep you flying down straight aways when you are feeling froggy. It's light and maneuverable compared to the 600cc bikes and up.
    It's seriously the all arounder. Fun and comfortable to ride, great mpg, looks majestic.
    Everyone needs to stop comparing the fz07 to it though the main difference is one is naked and one is isn't. I got the 650 because I love sports bikes with fairings others don't it's simply your preference both are great parallel twin bikes. It's a great beginner bike to wet your feet with. But I will also tell you that as long as you respect your bike and know the limits of your abilities you can start on any bike you want. Recommended to start on a bike like this overall you will become a better rider for it. Great video!

    I would like to up grade to this bike. I rented a 2016 just to try it on for size. love it. the seating position is perfectly up right. and on long rides, or rough terrain i can stand up in an equestrian position. i would like to know if the current generation of 650 still has these features.

    I demo'd one of these last weekend. It was great, really easy to ride, it does feel a little small, especially the tank. I would have bought one right away but the new UK colours are terrible, Kawa green (not my thing), bright blue (way too bright) or battleship grey (not exactly attractive). Had there been a white, black or red I'd have bought it there and then. The staff at Kirkcaldy Kawasaki were excellent.

      I got a Ninja 400 over this bike specifically because I know in person the N650 sounds like a lawnmower. The N400 does sound that way but less so because it revs higher. Sounds like an angry bee IMO. Love the sound. Wish the N650 made the sound cuz that would be my choice.

    I rode this bike today at Daytona and LOVED it. However, I was really there to be blown away by the Z650 because I like naked bikes. Even though the motor is supposed to be exactly the same, the Z650 had much more vibration and overall the Ninja just felt like a totally different (and BETTER) bike. Why would that be? Oh, and the Ninja had the Akrapovic exhaust...could that have been the difference?

    • @RidersDomain
      @RidersDomain  6 лет назад

      Not sure from a construction standpoint unfortunately, but I had a similar experience with Suzuki's 650 as well. The V-Strom felt like the smoother package while the SV was a little more raw. - Byron

      Yamaha's FZ has 40cc more than the Kawasaki Ninja, longer stroke, smaller bore and higher compression. From the standpoint of both being middleweight Parallel Twins, they'd be an interesting match-up in a comparison but not the same engine. - Byron

    • @bendover-bz4bc

      Corey Hopkins nope. I guess fz 07 produces more power and more crisp sound

  • @hoveball
    @hoveball 7 лет назад +6

    bike's lighter so handing should be better but they also cut power so as far as being faster than the previous model I'm guessing it's a wash. Cool that they made it look more aggressive similarly to the 300 but on the same hand they look too similar to the 636 IMO. Side note, shift light, for what? There's no dangerous power zone where it'll go out from under you and if you're trying to optimize milage you'll be able to tell from the sound rather than trying to keep an eye on the shift light thereby taking your eyes off the road.

    The 2017 Ninja 650 looks good in KRT. I have a 2007 Kawasaki 650R and am considering trading for the 2017 Ninja 650. My bike is mint with only 2,300 miles. But my 2007 has more horsepower at 72 and weight is similar. My 2007 would be faster.It's a tough decision.

    • @TheRoadTaken
      @TheRoadTaken 4 года назад

      There are actually 13 gears. Ultimately this allows the bike to be faster than a liter bike (just takes a little longer to reach top speed of course). Most people just don't know about the additional up required "secret" tap necessary to unlock the additional gears (safety feature to help protect new riders).
      This isn't a video game, it's a joke. Don't get hop on your bike trying to find some hidden secret.

    The thing that gets me are riders that complain about having too little power even though they can only legally ride at 65mph. A kid on a 125cc scooter can reach highway speeds in that case. If your spending 18k on a bike to ride around in circles then I guess that's OK if you don't have the roads to ride at full speed... Lol.

      See, that's exactly what I'm saying lol
      Why spend more for 125cc versus 300cc, when legal limits are 70 mph at most?

      Hi.. i can totally understand your sentiment especially as a person who rides Ninja 300. My Ninja 300 can outperform(?) nearly anyone in city commuting and even on a highway up to 70 miles. However, when it comes down to comfy cruising on a highway at/above 65 miles, it vibrates quite a bit and not as comfy as 650.... and... yeah.. I can easily reach 85~90 mph with my ninja 300.. (^~^)

      In that case, a ZX-10R looks the same as a 300. Honestly the 2017 Ninja 650 is quite a bit different than the last model.

      Gotta say that wouldn't be much of a fair fight, they're completely different classes. It would all depend on what you're looking for. An Inline-Four performance supersport or a mellower sport-styled middleweight Twin? Both have advantages, it just matters what you're trying to accomplish. Now if this was a Ninja ZX-6R, then the comparison with the R6 would be warranted, and a whole lot of fun! - Byron

    Had a test ride on this today . Really disappointed. Had a 2016 er6f and this is nowhere near it in my opinion. Feels flat, tinny tick over, smaller than the er6. Anyone over 5'10 is going to feel big on it

    THUMBS DOWN! Not one shot of You sitting on it. And the parts showing somebody riding it were so fast you can't make out body positioning or anything. I wanted to compare the rider position versus the sport bikes.

      Not to be that guy but you could always judt sot on or test ride it vs the other bikes you're looking at. Just saying.

    WTF. You’d recommend this to NEW RIDERS?! Dude, riders who’ve never ridden a motorcycle and are just starting to ride?!! You’ve gone mad.
    If you’re just starting to ride, it’s best to begin on anything under (or) a 300cc. I’m not saying that it’s impossible to start on a 600cc, but if you value your life then you wouldn’t get info from American riders who think anything below 70HP is for pussies *cough* ChaseonTwoWheels *cough*

      It's tricky, because for the most part I agree, brand new riders are going to generally have a much more positive, safe and productive experience on a smaller displacement motorcycle. This particular bike has some of the same characteristics as those bikes though in my opinion, mellower power delivery, light handling, well-balanced weight distribution. Sure, it's got capabilities that could get a new rider into real trouble, no doubt. But I genuinely think in the hands of a new rider that respects his or her own limitations, this could be a rewarding machine. That caveat is key though, and is something I should have called out more explicitly in the vid. I came to that conclusion in part because of a personal experience, or rather the experience of a close friend, that got into riding without any experience. He did the three day safety course then turned around and got himself a Harley Fat Boy. I thought he was crazy. But he didn't ride with ego, didn't think he was more capable than his skills allowed and has been riding that thing for the better part of the past three years without any issue. I also agree that people out there who think you have to have some stupid fast/powerful motorcycle in order to be a legitimate rider are full of it. Some of the best times I've had on a motorcycle were on 300cc bikes. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and for watching. - Byron
