    this is the best Arch Linux installation video i saw
    you've made it sept by step
    and explained every step
    it was easy to follow and understand
    and xfce is indeed the best for beginners i started with it when i switched to Linux in 2020
    on MX Linux
    i felt comfortable with it
    and didn't know it's name until
    days after
    it's fast and easy to use desktop environment and stable and cool looking and easy to change it's look and feel
    xfce is a good start and introduction
    for beginners to Linux is a good support to them on Arch Linux

    Pretty good "newer" guide. A couple of things to note: (1) For users out there NOT using a standard US-style keyboard, the first thing you will want to do is run the "loadkeys" command to specify your keyboard layout. Example, I run "loadkeys es" to load my Spanish keyboard layout. You can find a listing of available keymaps by running the "localectl list-keymaps" command. (2) After setting keymap, you really should sync the Arch mirrors with the "pacman -Syy" command. HTH.

      how do you find arch compared to other OSs? im debating switching my desktop to either PopOS or maybe take the plunge to arch, from kde neon, and wondering how youre finding it

    • @__ab-
      @__ab- Год назад +1

      @@chickenbobbobba not the person you replied to, but
      Arch is more lightweight than many other linux distros
      You get cool things like the AUR
      However it is rolling release meaning more updates are likely to break things and PopOS would likely have better game support at least out of the box if that matters to you
      Arch is harder to set up(which is why I'm here again) but ease of use is about the same
      But honestly I would only switch if what you are currently using doesn't do everything you want it to right now and/or you are interested in arch.
      If you are interested in maximum compatibility with minimum tinkering for gaming I would do PopOS.
      TL:DR Arch if you are interested, PopOS for max gaming compatibility(if it matters), or stay on what you are using unless you want something else more

    Thanks so much for this video. This is the best Arch installation guide I've seen -- written or in video form. I appreciate that you provide explanations for what things do (like quickly mentioning that mkdir is how to create a directory). When I tried following the Arch Installation guide, I found myself following a daisy chain of Wiki articles to understand this concept or that concept, and I would be 7 pages deep into that before resuming the install. That was very tedious. This is much easier and I still feel like I understand what I'm installing on my system.

    Manual solution is good for understanding the processes, but using archinstall script, via this automatic method, arch works better, because you need to write a bit more configurations, which allows you to do an automatic method. Before, I just had no idea. Need more detailed guide.

    this is great, i almost have the confidence to do this. (except i'll need to install on a bios system so i'll need to check other tutorials for that part.)

    • @intelligenceservices
      @intelligenceservices Год назад

      some points aren't clear to me. the partitioning in a legacy bios machine in particular. tried twice, using the supplied legacy bios suggestions at the web page, but getting grub errors on the first reboot. going to try it for a third time in a row now. on your website, you say "Legacy mode! If you do the legacy installation, choose the dos partition type and do not create the UEFI partition." but it's not clear to me what needs to have a dos partition type. The root partition or all partitions? Do one or more partitions need to be MBR? cfdisk does not display any option for 'dos' in exact terms. there are now 100 or so options in the 'type' list in cfdisk. GPT isn't mentioned either. or maybe i'm not looking in the right place. after the third or fourth try, still only able to reboot to a GRUB_ with the blinking cursor.

    • @intelligenceservices
      @intelligenceservices Год назад

      i think the root partition needs some kind of boot flag? i've tried setting the root partition as MBR as well as Bios Boot, and neither seem to be working. I'd really like to be able to modify what's wrong without having to reformat and reinstall over and over. used a live image to look at the partitions and there were no boot flags so i add them, and still boots to GRUB_ ... this tells me that Grub is loading, but not able to turn the engine over. i checked lsblk during the install process and the mount points were /mnt for root and /home for home. also it's not clear if a boot partition is needed or not since i'm not using EFI. there's a high degree of ambiguousness with installing on a legacy bios system.

  • @uh3906

    Someone could help me please?
    I have followed the instructions as shown , and did have problems in the meantime but i have overcame them all successfully , tho i noticed that my table was set to type dos , and for him it was in gpt , i have read that gpt is the prioritized. but anyway , i read that i can transform it later , so it should not be any problem , and was said i can continue the installation because it doesnt mean anything at this moment. so i continued, i have done the partitioning as shown as well , and everything was ok. now when i arrived to reboot , after seven hours of struggling , i get a grub rescue prompt!!!!! could anyone help me out with this one? how do i get back to the terminal of arch? how can i skip this screen at all? i feel like i have fucked it up big time , and there is no command the prompt would accept.
    thank you in advance!

    If you mounted your root partition to /mnt, then you should've mounted the boot partition to /mnt/boot, not /boot. What you should do is boot the live USB, mount your root partition to /mnt and your boot partition to /mnt/boot, chroot in and then:
    pacman -S linux
    And then make sure that vmlinuz-linux is present.

    Is basically my same installation, however, sometimes, I would like to use archinstall (just to be faster), but for me, on 10 times I tried it, it worked once!. The only time it auto broke because partition that he created was too small (I wasn't able to install games from steam with a 1TB disk). The others time some random errors, or the fact that I didn't insert a password for disk encryption (that I never wanted to apply). Archlinux is great, but archinstall has to be fixed...
