My brother and I served this country for 2 years in Iraq. My brother is paralyzed from the waist down. I lost my left arm and now crippled. My best friend died in my arms. I am a neutralized Asian American citizen, therefore, I cannot run for president. Do I feel like a second class citizen? I sacrificed my life for this country and that is not good enough to be its president while most of our presidents had never set foot in the battlefield.

His legal argument had zero merit. The 14th amendment has nothing to do with presidential eligibility. If the 14 amendment was intended to change eligibility it would have been specifically outlined.

it always comes down to someone interpretation of opinion!
You can't just "take it to court". A situation must arise where the court needs to get involved. Cenk was trying to create this situation. If they had allowed him on the ballot, then others would challenge his eligibility and try to take him off the ballot. THEN you would have a conflict -- between him and those who are trying to take him off the ballot -- which a court would need to get involved in and decide. THEN Cenk could "take it to court".

As an immigrant myself that chose Canada as my home country, I find it stupid that one has to be born in the country to be eligible to run for Premier, or as in the US, for Presidency. Just for being born in a country doesn't mean one has the best intentions for that country. Being born there was not a choice, whereas immigrants may, and often do, have love for their chosen place and should have the same privileges as one that was born there.

I am not a Cenk fan…but as a Naturalized Citizen myself….I truly appreciate and agree 100% with him. I do feel like a 2nd class citizen, especially when I think about not having the same exact rights as someone born here. In order for me to become a citizen, I needed to make sure to not owe any taxes, not get into any trouble, not break laws, learn about US history, pass a civics and English exam, take an oath to the USA and renounce/give up citizenship and loyalty to my home country. You're a "real" citizen, and you *do* have the exact same rights as a natural born citizen. But the presidency is not a right. There are qualifications for eligibility to the presidency, including age and residency in addition to the natural born citizen requirement. Not having all the qualifications is not a denial of rights. It's simply an ineligibility.

Whereas saying naturalized citizens cannot run for president is discriminatory as it’s something only specific to this group.

No rights available to natural born citizens are withheld from naturalized citizens. None, because, again, the presidency is not a right.
There is no reason for a naturalized citizen to feel like a 2nd class citizen over the presidential qualifications clause. There have been 46 presidents in the history of the U.S. A qualification for the job being that you must be born a citizen in no way relegates 25 million people to 2nd class citizenship.
As a naturalized Australian-American who’s always been more politically engaged than my peers, this makes me sad :(
