Tip for oily hands…get artist gloves. I wear them on both hands. You’ll love it. Either that or trim some ink blotter paper; which you can get at an art supply store. Beautiful video by the way!
Love your process, very similar to mine. Being a leftie myself, I have the same smudging/“reactivating” issue you discovered. I also live in a hot country, which makes things even less ideal. Fountain pen friendly a paper is coated and less absorbent than other papers, which means that more of the dye dries on the page and not in the fibers. Because of that reason, i don’t see how this issue can be overcome with anything less than what you suggested yourself (waterproof ink and absorbent paper). I have come to learn how to work around it and embrace it as part of my writing experience. From the paper you have in the states, Rhodia is a good choice for me, as the ink dries faster than on Clairefontaine or Tomoe River. Hope this helps! Thanks for another great video, and hope you keep writing.
you’re so right, i don’t experience smudging on “normal” paper but the ink bleeds and feathers because of it being more absorbent. i haven’t tried rhodia, i’ll look into it. thank you for the suggestion and for watching!
I see you put GOOD USE to one of the Paul Ruben's included soft cloths, that come in their watercolour palettes. I hear you do illustrations, and imagine watercolours as well. I would love to see you work collections and thoughts on your art supplies at some point, if you were ever into that...thanks for the links about paper. I like BLANK paper..68gsm Tomoe river is nice to show ink qualities. Being leftie as well, over hand like you...pushing...smearing is a constant. I recently ordered special "SCRIBE" NIB, for an Estie pen...basically and Architects Nib...which is supposed to have THICK HORIZONTALS, AND SLIMMER VERTICALS...the opposite of the very common STUB NIBS...or which I have many. It turns out...due to being a leftie side/overhand pusher...ALL my stub nibs act like an Architect nib, and my special expensive architect Nib...writes like a plain old stub...for all the right handed people....fatter downstroke/thinner cross stroke...Now I have ONE STUB{THE ARCHITECT GRIND} and MANY architect grinds...{all the stub nibs}...crazy...never even noticed after years, that when I used all my stub nibs...they performed the OPPOSITE to what they were meant to do...Just so you know...try a 1.5 stub nib..or 1.1 stub on your Lamy safari...you will like the way it looks like an Architect's nib...with FAT HORIZONTALS AND THINNER VERTICALS... beacause you are a leftie...Janis.
@@kookatsoonjan thank you so much for that info on architect and stub nibs! 🤯 i’ve been wondering how they would behave with me be being an overhand leftie so thank you! i’ve been thinking about sharing my art related stuff too. very likely that i’ll will post some videos about that eventually. i’m not really a watercolour person, it always scared me, but i’ve been trying to explore it! 😅 thank you for watching!
Hey! I just recently found your channel and I love your insights. I've also started my fountain pen journey for 3 weeks now. I got a fine tip Lamy Safari pink cliff and all I had was this journal notebook that I had from the big box stores. The smudging was insane especially on my Lamy Mango Ink. So now Im looking for good places to get good paper/notebooks Let's have this journey together!
@@DarkSide3211 hello! if you want to try MD Paper, you can try out this passport size refill even if you don’t have a traveler’s notebook. it might be a cheaper option to start out this way instead of fully committing to a full size Midori MD notebook. thank you for watching and best of luck to both of us in this fun journey! 😊
what are your go to fountain pen friendly papers? do you have any recommendations for this newbie? 🙋🏻♀️
I am glad to see that I am not the only person in RUclips who writes with the "correct" hand 😊

What is the green marker you used? It’s so pretty
@@prernatripathy8406 hello! it’s the ohuhu alcohol marker in GY4 colour. it’s mostly for illustration work 😊
Dollar tree notebooks are inexpensive. That is expensive.
