Note: 5:09... You may not have noticed anywhere else, but when you buy this device, it doesn't come with software necessary to operate it. This offers versatility in that you don't end up paying for software you have, but if you don't have it, there's an extra $120 for software access on 2 computers ($30 per additional machine, though per OMTECH, you can email them to have a 3rd computer seat added for free) and 1 year of updates. Software continues to work after a year, but there is an additional fee to continue to get updates. I didn't already own the software so I was quite displeased with this little tidbit as I found out after the fact. I thought that since the only thing offered with mine while purchasing was Lightburn training videos, that the software was included. Young me... so naive.
be great to see some videos with the upgraded APC LensPro for Omtech Polar using all lenses for focal distance setup. The test file you provide doesn't seem to mark in places at all? not sure why. to cut 3mm bass wood I'm having to use 20/60! Your videos are so easy to listen to and great guides! keep up the great work.
Bought one refurbed off ebay; pretty amazing for price but has some defeinte quirks. 1. Camera was meh at best; went back to custom via pvc tubing rack. no more cal nightmares. 2. Engrave speed on x-axis is limited to 200mm/s or 12,000mm/m. Not sure why? This means if you set anything higher it makes no difference. 3. Engrave speed on y-axis is 500mm/s; almost seems like you'd get a 50% performance boost if you rotate prints?

Thank you for your video-I must have played it 10 times during setup. Im disappointed in my machine--the power key and back switch are useless and it stays on when I turn the key off, and if the switch on the back is off....not good. Also, the air assist isn't working out of the box-the fan isn't turning at all :(
Thank you so much for making this video! I used it o setup my Omtech Polar this week... I have a question maybe someone can answer. I made the test file and Garrett said he changed the engrave settings. But, I don't know how to do that. I'm new in lightburn. My test card did not do well at all. Signed, So Confused
I had ordered one and just cancelled once I realized the pass through is nearly useless. For me, the pass through is important. I guess I will be saving longer for the Glowforge pro. This looks fantastic for those who don’t need/want a usable pass through.
Yep, the pass through is useless. We have a video coming up and I point that out. It's 14" wide and just under 1/4" tall. I cannot get 1/4" MDF through the hole. My Honest Opinion... If you can operate this Polar laser, you can operate something bigger. Our 80w OMTech laser takes up 16" more that the Polar laser sitting on a table with the exhaust. Both use Lightburn software. They are the same width but the 80w is 16" deeper plus the water chiller. But the 80w has a 24" X 35" bed with a usable passthrough. ruclips.net/video/6rS5yTsjMNI/видео.html This one is is just 5" bigger and under $3000 omtechlaser.com/collections/mid-range-co2-laser-engravers/products/55w-co2-laser-engraver-cutter-usb-6b46-us
Hey guys awesome video, I just purchased one! Could you do a video on laser safety? Should I be wearing safety glasses? Do i have to wear them when looking through the lid of the engraver? Is it possible for the radiation to reflect out of the laser engraver?
Would you recommend this laser for a newbie just getting started I have looked at all of your videos about the glow forge, and this one here is more affordable for me but also the features are almost like the glow forge. Since I am a newbie, I’m hesitant of going on up to the thunder laser, it’s such a bigger machine. Thank you for your comments. I hope y’all have a wonderful, blessed day.
We just did a video last Friday where we do a comparison. I think that might answer some of your questions. It depends on what you plan to do with the laser, but we talk about that in last week's video.
I am wanting to buy, but I have not fully made up my mind, I liked your video, will look for one with the rotary tool. Can you use a I-Pad or do you need a laptop?
It does have a pass through, but the width is 14 inches if I remember correctly, and Garrett mentioned in another video that he tried to get 1/4 in through there and it wouldn’t fit. I was so disappointed in that.

I followed your video all the way through but my test cut is only marking some of the circles and none of the outlined letters and only part print on the other words? Please please can you help me!
Might be kind of a dumb question for you, but if you were to get a laser engraver with the proper ventilation and enclosure for it, would I be able to leave it unattended in my garage while I work on other things inside? I would really like to get one of these but if I need to be present at all times it’s running I’m not sure it’s for me. I just can’t spend hours a day attending to it just to monitor it. Maybe I could install a smoke detector like you have? Please let me know your thoughts on this, thanks!
I just got a polar 350. Can you please tell me what settings you used (speed, power and DPI) when you ran your material test card. When I ran one, I only got 2 of the circles to cut all the way threw.

Love the video...my wife currently has the xtool d1 10w. She is considering upgrading to the OMtech Polar...Do you think this is an appropriate upgrade or should she just go up to the 60 or 80W machine? Just wondering what your thoughts are about this.
Hello, can you describe how the machine measures or does the focus length, is it manual using a tool or do you input the material thickness? I currently have the Longer Ray5 10w. The focus adjustment is a pain. Thinking of upgrading, thank you both
I want to know the answer to this too!! I’m trying to decide which is better-the 55 watt omtech has much bigger working area. But it’s also heavier and takes more space. But price is only $100 difference between 55 watt and chiller vs the polar. If I want to cut your door rounds they will not fit in the polar. Is this correct?
I just got mine in yesterday. I have everything hooked up but it still doesn't work. I can get it to frame but once I hit the start button, I get a red ring on the polar. Any ideas?
You can setup in your basement but you need to vent out a window. Depending on where you live, you will not want to leave it in the garage when it drops below freezing, the tube will crack.
Thanks for another great training video. I have the Glowforge and X-tool and now I need to consider this one. How can I get a link to the Lightburn test file? Keep up the great work you two. “Sam” in TN
Bit weird to claim the straps weren't secured, then to be corrected that they were in fact restrained by the feet... and then just chuckle. Maybe agree on the script before making the video?
Very poor, rude, and uninformed customer service. Do not purchase an OMTech Laser. Falling apart (literally) and it’s going to take “three days for a technician to call you back.” Spend your money elsewhere!

Great Video. Are there any followup videos now that it's been a year? I liked to see your thoughts after using it for a year. Thanks
For the engraving settings you changed, can you show what box you changed to what? I’d like to try this.
Would you pick this over a glowforge?
I love the parents code. Once you start to see it, it just flows one word after another. If I'm not mistaken is that from Friday?

Once you put material in to cut. Does the camera just pick up the material and make sure where to center the image?
No, the camera is just to line up the material. You still need to know the focus height and settings for that material.
I ordered one 3 weeks ago. Waiting for delivery. Can’t wait!

Hey Kaiona! This Friday's video, we are doing a comparison of the Glowforge, OMTECH Polar, and the xTool D1 desktop lasers.

The pass through on the back is 14" wide and just shy of 1/4" tall.
What was the DPI originally before you changed it to 300??

Can you cut into a zippo and have clean edges???
It won't cut it but it will engrave it nicely.
