"...and then they went to an income tax concept and how'd that work out for us..." As an import broker to China who knows all too well that tariffs are ultimately a TAX on the U.S. consumer which China does NOT pay, this drives me crazy. The "concept" you speak of does, in fact, work especially if the richest Americans and corporations pay their fair share. Alas, they don't, and we enable this kleptocratic behavior as evidenced by who stood behind POTUS at his inauguration. The poorest Americans and middle class workers will be impacted by this the hardest; those who helped vote him into office thinking he'd "save" the economy and jobs. They are in for a rude awakening when they realize he has nothing in common with them and never did.

He's improving the supply side of the equation by opening up energy. The strangulation happened when Biden stopped drilling, he was forced to resume drilling b/c inflation got up to 9%. Only then did it actually come down. But inflation compounds so 3 years = 20%; this is exactly why you can't pump money into the economic system and choke out the supply side. But Biden had no clue what he was signing. Don't believe the nonsense that tariffs will jack up prices. These will be shortlived b/c Mexico and Canada will cave in fast and China's is only 10% which is nothing...

That's because the US economy is massively inflated duh. Take a look at Nvidia's example; it lost almost $600 billion USD in a day just because of deepseek. If you look at Nvidia's net income in 2024, it's $29.76B vs Toyota's $24.3B, and yet Nvidia's market cap is over 10x higher.
The cost of living is even more different; I'm sure you heard about people comparing the US vs. China's cost of living; if the same meal costs $2 somewhere vs. $10 in the US, that's a 5x increase in GDP.
Wait until the US lost reserve status (fyi outside of these currencies
      U.S. Dollar 59%
      🇪🇺 Euro 20%

US importers pay the tariffs, it is an import tax paid by Americans. Yes it makes those goods less competitive against locally manufactured products. But there is NO money coming from foreign countries/companies to the US. Like all taxes it is purely internally, paid by Americans to the US government. Without other tax cuts elsewhere it just increases the total tax take by the Federal government. Maybe it will boost local manufacturing over time. But having more local manufacturing generally does not correlate with greater wealth, all these countries running a large trade surplus with the US are generally much poorer.

Intel uses 3nm from TSMC, who got that from ASML EUV machines. Ryzen 9 also 4nm from ASML EUV machines. The new Nvidia cards have the 3nm tech from ASML.
Only ASML can do it. China is catching up though. Within ten years China would've catched up with ASML. Could be next week though if Trump tries to tariff Europe.
