Thank you for featuring The Broken Binding special edition of The Way of Edan, Petrik! I couldn't be happier with how beautifully it turned out, and not least because of your hard work as art director. Thank you also for bringing us the best sort of news!
The Navigators Children is incredible. My favorite book he has written. Emotional, unpredictable in ways new to his process, but everything felt organic and thought out wonderfully. His best paced book too IMO. Can't wait for you to read it.
Like you I had held off reading "Into the Narrowdark" until "Navigator's Children" was released. I now plan to listen the audiobooks back to back and finally conclude one of the most amazing modern epic fantasy stories. Tad Williams is an amazing author and while his slow burn style is not for everyone I thoroughly enjoy it, reminds me a lot of the master of the craft, Tolkien.
I compeltely agree with you. That's also why I feel this kind of writing in the genre is so rare to find now. Many fantasy readers aren't patient enough to savor the slow burn of the narrative too. 🥲
Thank you for the news Petrik! They are exactly what I need while I recover from a medical procedure. I was a bit sad that "Mirrored Heavens" was not on the Goodreads choice awards. I voted for "The Tainted Cup". I also hoped to see Anton Hur's "Towards Eternity" if not in the SF maybe in the debut section. It was so beautifully written... Looking forward to "A Drop of Corruption".
You're welcome, Maria! The Tainted Cup was soooo fun and entertaining. Very much looking forward to reading A Drop of Corruption! I agree with you this year's Goodreads SFF picks have been a downer! :)
Man, I really have no excuse to keep putting off Tad Williams. Can't wait to get into his world! Awesome update, Petrik! Always appreciate these episodes!
Excited to read «The Last King of Osten Ard» next year! Also got myself a copy of the Broken Binding’s Special Edition of Professor Philip Chase’s «Way of Edan»! 🥳
My copy of the Broken Binding edition of Stone of Farewell arrived just today. So i am a ways away from Navigator's Childen, but based on how much I loved The Dragonbone Chair, I assume I will get there eventually, hopefully next year.
Those Godkiller seriea covers are just amazing. I bought the first two on the covers alone before reading Godkiller. Sadly, I didn't love that book and haven't gotten around to reading Sunbringer. So it is really sad I find myself wanting to buy this next one just based on the cover again.
I hope The Broken Binding does something to differentiate the second printing of Sun Eater. My understanding was that The Sun Eater Broken Binding editions were limited, but the second printing makes it more like their new "Endless Editions". I am glad others will get to enjoy these editions, but as a collector I think they will devalue the first printing if they don't at least clearly state on the copyright page "Second Printing" or something.
@@davidleighton5959 I think TBB has mentioned since the beginning there will be second print if the series is successful! 😄 And yeah, I have a feeling that will be the case. Like stated it's second printing on the copyright page.
I at least could choose 3 books. Tainted Cup and Defiant, of course. But also James by Percival Everett (twice, since it is also up for audio, which is amazing). Probably my favourite book of the year. But otherwise ... no idea 😂 Can't wait for Drop of Corruption! I have so many questions about the world and especially the Leviathans and I hope we will learn more! Of course I ordered The Way of Edan. I read the series already, but I want the books on my shelves. I kinda already decided to not buy War of the Rose Throne because I already bought so many books I have yet to read but now you say these things about it ... hmmmm. 😂
Hahaha! I guess we chose the same 2 books. The ones I've read anyway. I am so looking forward to reading Drop of Corruption, too! The first book was so good! :)
I’m looking forward to faithbreaker and the second book of tainted cup! Goodreads I voted for Empire of the Damned and Where the Dark stands Still. Mercy of the gods got my sci-fi vote
Another great episode. Do you know if the Broken Binding editions (amazing covers) will ever be available in paperback? I just don't have that type of expendable cash for Sun Eater (7 book series).
Hahahah the GR choice awards are certainly a thing this year... I feel like the SF and Fantasy categories are becoming more and more literary each year. Where are the epics and the space operas?! I personally voted for Empire of the Damned and The Stardust Grail in those categories, and was glad to see some other good books in other categories as well! Also, HEEEECK YES for the new MA Carrick duology, 2026 can't come soon enough 🤩🤩
Yeahhh! That's the thing about this GR Awards. It's so WEIRD. But oh well... I think I would've voted for Empire of the Damned, too, if I had read it! :p
I was also sad that the only Goodreads nominee I read this year was The Tainted Cup, despite reading plenty of new releases. Seems like current non-romance fantasy trends are largely Historical Fantasy, Magical Realism, and Mythology Fantasy which don't really have much audience crossover with our epic fantasy-slanted bubble.
I read 10 of the fantasy nominees and also voted for The Tainted Cup. For YA Fantasy (which included Defiant), Ive read 6 and voted for The Crimson Moth/Heartless Hunter. For Romantasy, I’d read 4 and voted for The Spellshop.
@PetrikLeo , will the kingdoms of death be reprinted in hardcover? I got a chance to purchase the reprint of the first three but now I'm left without a hardcover copy of the fourth book.
While enjoyed The Tainted Cup it wasn’t in my top 3 books from 2024 so I didn’t vote for it. I was really disappointed with the Good Reads fantasy selections. So many great books missing.

The Tainted Cup was my favourite new fantasy read of 2024. I loved it so much.
Well-deserved acclaim. Such a great book!
That cover of Drop of Corruption is stunning, I haven't seen it before! So hyped for that book.
@@OnlyTheBestFantasyNovels it's better than the US edition cover art for sure. I look forward to reading it!

Whoa! I personally love the Rook & Rose trilogy, so I'm super thrilled that the authors are writing more books together.
Here's hoping the new series will be better than Rook and Rose, which I enjoyed! :)
