  • I buy the cheapest manual transmission Corvette in the country that drives home and has a clean title. We do a weeks worth of wrenching and then Sarah and I road trip the ratty Corvette C3 to New Orleans for my birthday.

Way to go, man! Yes, it's one of the less desirable Corvette models from the dark ages of underpowered cars, but hey, it's still a Vette, ratty or not. What many car guys don't get, these C3s have 4 wheel disc brakes, independent rear suspension, low point of gravity and almost perfect weight distribution. If the car is halfway decently maintained, it drives way better than any common Muscle Car. The 4 speed manual is so easy to shift and suits the car much better than the automatic. The reclined seating position is actually very comfortable once you get used to it. So in a nutshell: Great car to take (very) long road trips in. Oh, you probably guessed it, I'm partial to Corvettes and have a soft spot for guys who actually drive them. Loved your video.

Really enjoyed your video. But I don't think most people "hate" these Corvettes. They're just not worth much because the stock horsepower sucks because, well, everything sucked in the mid 70's. That and they made SO many of them. But they're only some simple mods away from being as good or better driving wise than any other Vette that came before it.

This video showed up on my list so I watched it. Great video. I have a shop that I own a one man show. By the way the car not starting after sitting awhile is most likely the carb. leaking gas down into the intake. Pull the carb drain it. Flip it over there is 2 soft plugs on underside of throttle body. Remove base plate to get a good look. Clean area real good and apply some epoxy to the plugs. Gas friendly epoxy. Hope that helps. I subscribed to your channel too.

If you enjoy driving long distances in piles of junk, I recommend you look into the Le'Mons Rallies here in the US. We did a 2800 mile trek last year around all of the great lakes and blew up the engine in our 89 Celebrity. We got 4ish months to get our Fiat X1/9 ready for the next one (and it needs every minute it can get).

@@CarGroves The stock dist. Can be recurved. The Q-jet can be jetted properly & will make plenty of power. Carb & intake are usually the first things people replace but in this case not really necessary. Don't go crazy on cam. 230° at .05 & .480 lift is plenty. Vortec heads can be bought used cheap. I've built plenty of low budget junkyard combinations in the past & whipped up on big $ rides. I think it's great that no one wants latter C-3's & C-4's. Puts a lot of cheap Vette's in the hands of budget builders.
