The score does not indicate the ferocity of the battle. Year in and year out, Elise Mertens has been one of the most consistent, reliable players on tour. She never plays badly, she never fails to deliver a professional performance, and she is always a threat to win her match, regardless of opponent. Her game lacks the firepower to win a major, it would seem, and at 29 it's probably all downhill from here, but she is a player to be admired and respected. Clearly, Pegula knows that , too, since this was her first-ever victory over the Belgian. As an American, I root for Jessica always, but her game, while coolly efficient, is also rather unexciting to watch. Thank you for the nice highlights of these two classy ladies.
Ialso cheer for Jessie but it was hard to watch her giving the ball back repeatedly to the center. mertens barely had to run. Maybe it was her strategy?
@@lb7617 is it cuz they play on the same court as men? and it's a foot or two too big needing 4x the effort v men? cuz besides that, they play fellow women ... so weird/confusing.
@@axch2983 Yes, the women and men play on the exact same courts with the same diameters and the same net height. The net is 3.5 feet on the sides and 3 feet in the middle. Do they receive equal prize money for all tournaments now?
Extremely hardworking player Jessica. Also very stable in key moments. I am very glad for her win today 💪🏻.
True ..she has maximised her potential.

Jessica moves way better than most, and her smooth power is all about the beautiful timing. She anticipates so well too. Love her😊
Such high level of tennis by both players. A true delight.
Pegula forced wide and she float the cross court slice, like 1.5 normal court length. It really cool. Such high skill athlete.
Her slice backhand is a thing of beauty 😊
And footwork
So proud of Jessie. She's in top form now
Pegula looks so pretty in that dress and also looks fitter than before! ❤😍
Bellissima Pegula !
Impressive Jess. She has all the shots.
Both r fighting very well
I don’t think I’ve seen Jess play this many slice backhands in a match.
Samehere..I was looking forward to this match...pegula has a bad record against her

@@axch2983 Ohh, no the women always play best of 3 sets. The men only play best of 5 sets for the grand slams and for the Olympics finals.
