Absolutely brilliant! We can never have too many genius interpretations of this magnificent composition. Unlike some other commenters, I found the tempos end expressions (rubato, accelerando, etc.) perfectly suited to the Romantic tradition of this piece.
my jaw literally dropped at the introduction. First two minutes, the piano solo introduction is impeccably performed. It takes a pianist as skillful as Li and a composer as virtuosic and pianistic as Saint-Saens to create a masterpiece like so.
To watch this now, and having watched your performance in South America when you just 11 speaks to an incredible growth of an artist. Thank you posting this incredible performance.
Magnificent performance- taken with great romantic spirit, which is so appropriate and beautiful; Saint-Saens a great master! thank you for posting this glorious performance. Conductor and orchestra were right with the soloist, hand in glove! wonderful!
This “little” giant does not play!!! (Pun fully intended!) the most spectacular interpretation I have heard of this warhorse yet. The finale was a wild and crazy ride. I heard this young pianist in mid-December 2019 in the Beethoven Emperor concerto at the Meyerhoff Hall with the BSO. He was very impressive; but this performance of the Saint Saens puts him in the upper stratosphere. The tempo of the finale kind of left me breathless; it seemed impossible. Hope to hear him live again. Bravissimo! PWG
I love the performance, it's wonderful, but I don't know if it just happens to me, the constant change in the volume of the video, it's not necessary please let it sound with the same volume so we can appreciate even more George's performance.
A masterful interpretation. Every note has meaning and none of the difficult passages are faked through. At least equal to Gilels historic account. 2nd mvmnt 12:10 3rd mvmnt 17:20
Able to play fast means you have excellent technique, so to play slower is no issue, whereas for someone to not be able to play faster than his/her maximum speed is not as good as someone who can play at the fastest speed and be able to play slower with no problems!
Brilliantly played but the camera man needs valium..he's jumping back and forth every second..so distracting I had to close my eyes and just listen, which is fine but every time Li got to an interesting place the camera jumped away. Annoying
He has this memorized? I can't imagine the hours he's put in. I guess it makes sense at this level. And the tempo of the song doesn't really allow for reading. If you don't already know it you can't play it quick enough from a sight reading
Do you mean "overreact" as in his facial expressions? If so, I don't really think it's your place to be telling him what to do or what not to do with his artistry. Everyone has their own way of expressing music. For some, expressions are stronger and bolder. For others, they're subtler. Either way, if the music they produce is still beautiful, then why does the manner in which they create art matter?

One of my favourite piano concertos beautifully played.
Just stunning.
Delicate, forceful, playful, lyrical, emotional. Everything this piece asks for and more. So much more.
In awe.
Thank you 🙏
Damned! So precise and stylish! Thumbs up!!!
BRAVISSIMO 💛💛💛💛💛

Absolute Perfection. 🥰🥰🥰
Already your breakthrough concerto many years ago, but now its first movement has so many more colors and "gravitas"!
Le son riche et généreux. Jeux naturel, bel osmose avec l’orchestre. Du panache. Sens du discours. Que du bonheur
omg this is an absolutely stunning performance!
Bravo❤

🥰🥰🥰😍❤❤❤
Conductor's name please? Amazing one has to ask for this. Brilliant performance.
Joshua Weilerstein
Oh Saint Saen's Microsoft version
Take it easy on the equipment, George, I think the piano was losing some heat tiles on re-entry!
Tee-hee-hee. SOMEONE’s been listening to The Great Philippe Entremont! 🤓
It is extremely well played, but does anything else thinks it is a little bit too fast ?
Able to play fast means you have excellent technique, so to play slower is no issue, whereas for someone to not be able to play faster than his/her maximum speed is not as good as someone who can play at the fastest speed and be able to play slower with no problems!
This and the Lisitaa's version i think the best interpretations of this Concerto...
Came here after watching his mastdrclass with LL

Con toda seguridad eres español; Es verdad?

Muscle memory is key in memorizing pieces like this.

soo fast
Who came here because of Modern history of France in Countryballs?
bravo das stück ist nicht einfach,!!!!!!!
The performance, especially the 2nd movement, is way too fast for his own good. It ruins the leisurely nature of the piece.
do not overeact..seriously. look at how korean pianists perform and please learn from them

Coarse. Insensitive. Unloving. A concert is executed. Compare this performance with the brilliant and cultivated play of 16-year-old Grigorij Sokolov
too many artificial rubati and accerlerandi in my personal view, dislike
