As a professional painter of over 30 years I don't use any tape at all. As the saying goes "Anyone can paint but not everyone is a painter" but you both did a top notch job. Congrats on the new office! Looks great!
Due to the difference in color between halves of the back wall I was convinced the darker half was like 4 inches recessed further back until Paul ran over it with the paint roller.
Dang Jeff... quit watching youtube and get on top of more Pi videos!!!! jk :P Actually the PetaPi was enough of a project to keep you stacked up on video cred for quite a while!!! lol :D

Advice, on painting. Do not roll straight, you go at various angles to get better coverage in 1 pass. Going up and down will end up very streaky, and you will see it under lights. You can get good coverage when you basically make a 'cluster star' from all the angles in a single pass with some touch up.
So excited!! Congratulations on the new office. Been watching since Newegg yolk'd days and this brings me so much joy. Thanks for vlogging all this, please do more vlogs on how it is taking shape! Crazy how much you've already transformed the space.
Have you guys heard of screw drivers and painters tape (blue), you can take the outlet plates and such off and tape off the black trim border at the floor. Saves a lot of time and the tape isn't expensive. Other than that, good job.
Amazing what a paint job can do. This is such a great move, to your own office, work/life balance & other benefits (A/C / cooler) - looking forward to the Joe/Paul antics in here. Onwards!
Paul, I've been watching your channel since you started it. I have to commend you on this video for a few reasons. First, it's great to see you starting to grow to the point of needed office space. Second, you produce some of the best tech videos on RUclips and the internet. I'm so glad that you chose to do this because I feel often like I have someone who really cares about us smaller-time consumers on the internet. @@StephenCole1916 that’s because he was way too lazy to even paint his own house 🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️even though in every intel upgrade video he praises his painting “skills” 🤣🤣🤣🖕lienus
Replacing the switches, switch plates, and outlets with white makes a huge difference and only costs a few bucks. Highly recommend doing that if you're allowed to do that yourself.
You could carpet tile over that existing carpet. It has the advantage of being replacable if you buy extra tiles and any of them get stained. I'd go with a medium gray, it always looks cleaner than light or dark gray. It can also be cheap if you can find a big enough lot of discontinued tiles.
A great start and great work. BTW when pouring from a drum or large container, pour so the hole from which you pour - get a spout! - is at the top. It smooths the flow and aids control. That paint does look as if it will benefit from a second coat. My OCD is kicking in and I think you should repaint the entrance hall, if only for visitors and to cover up anything embedded in the old paint. Plus the old paint looks dreadful.
You need some furniture dollies and door stops for moving stuff in an office building. You will use while tweaking the positions of everything. And you can set your builds on and roll around Good luck with the space
Rollers are economical, but if you want to knock out some walls in record time s paint gun is by far the best option. The secret is really finding the right mix of thinner to paint for that particular paint gun.
That wavy spot is where someone had a rolling chair and not a protective pad, they also seemed to spill a lot from the edge of the desk in the same area.
my suggestion is to move the storage to the middle room, it will needots of space and you don't want that on the entrance way. that could be a chill area with a couch, fridge and tv. then storage and editing desk, and then the big room with the studio and workbench. if you don't need a switch, just drywall it instead of painting on top.
If you ever want to paint a wall chroma key green for streaming or video use, try Gamma Green from Lowes instead of spending $60-$100/gallon for Chroma Key green. I used Gamma Green in the past and it works great as a lower budget chroma key green alternative.
Congrats on the new office Paul. I find a physical separation between work and home good for mental health. Looking forward to seeing how you utilize the space!
That room is big enough you could eventually have a build area on one end and a tech news area on the other. Just a thought that could save setup times. If you went with your back to the big wall they could be side by side so you could move between them if needed. Just a few ideas.
Before you fill the office, I really would wash the carpets with a deep carpet cleaner, it will also help lighten the room, as I am sure there is years of bedded in grime. It also will make the place smell new!
Nice job, but the gold switch plates need to go. Also, find a couple white on white can trims for the two lights. Suggestions for your friendly electrician.
I had the same experience looking at a similar grey at Lowe's. Once I got the room painted I noticed a blue as well which I don't care for. I was done spending money and time painting though - so it stays!
Love the evolution of this. Watching you for 6/7+ years, it's so good to see you finally hit the stage where you need an office. Can't wait to see what comes of it!
PRO TIP...dampen roller before use...every 10 mins quickly dunk roller in and out of water bucket. this will keep roller from drying out. if you are in damp or cold climate, not necessary.
Amazing that you finally have your own office. But take this advice from a professional painter for next time. Take the whole lid off the bucket to pour the paint, that small whole is not meant for pouring paint but for adding the coloring to the base white paint. And keep your roller much more wet when rolling to get an even coat of paint so you're not dry rolling, but not too much so your roller isn't sliding with paint on the wall. Hope that helps. Have fun!
Protip for paint rollers: The arm and elbow part of the roller should be on the side that you are painting towards. So @ 9:06 you had the arm on the right side so you are set up to paint from left to right. If you want to go right to left just flip the roller so that the arm is on the left side

With the new color on the walls, the rooms look brighter and bigger. And yeah, you really should get a rug - it'd... uh... really tie the room together.
Let see the bright side, you'll be getting some painting experience. Also a apair of shoes would be ideal for working, they may not save you from pain, but they could help protect your feet way better than those flip-flops or sandals, or whatever the name is in english.
Great Job with the Office cleanup. Those carpets look like 16" squares that are completely replaceable. Just pull out the stained area and plop down the new carpets and "voila" fixed.
congrats on the new space. i would really drop some laminat or vinyl flooring in there because i hate the carpet but the good thing is one can drop it right on the carpet with the click system flooring and means it stays nice and quiet. Did the same thing for our daughters room and only thing i had to do was cut a bit off the bottom of the door because of the new floor height. night and day difference. also i would recommend 3500K bulbs for the place. it's not too white and not too yellow, i find it to be the perfect color tone to work in.

congratulation on the new space, it looks perfect, specially after the painting job you did. just one thing about that spot on the carpet, if it is heated floor, it is better to check if there is any borken pipes or anything like that because it looks like if there some liquide under the carpet
