Unbox, install the batteries, NOTE: THE ENZYME/DEODORANT (Eco Smart) NO LONGER COMES IN THE BOX), fill the water tank, flush, TP to use, and dumping the tank. All in 7 minutes for the Porta Potti Curve 550E. It shows their excellence in product design. I hope you like my product review. *** Update 7/10/19, the 565E seems to be the current model selling for about $140 at Walmart on-line. Also known as Thetford 92306. The 550E now sells for $190, which is the one I have and bought for about $130 a couple of years ago.
*** Update 4/19/20, a viewer said the small bottle of EcoSmart no longer comes in the box. Purchase some at the same time you order it on-line or at the place of purchase. Хобби
Press the white button when emptying to avoid splash as it allows air in during emptying.
Yep. I know. I had to add a written note on the screen because I forgot to say so when I was speaking. Thanks.
This is by far the best explanation I've seen of how to prepare, use and clean this porta potti.
Not even Thetford has such a great explanatory video for their product. Thank you!
Thanks, Ed!
instablaster...
Thank you for this very awesome product review / tutorial. Many product reviewers should emulate how you do yours, step by step, clear, concise, comprehensive. I am now going to go ahead and order one.... and I hope Thetford acknowledges that and takes time to drop you a thank you note.
5 year old video with precise information. So well done and easy to follow instructions. Thank you , Thank you, Thank you. I appreciate every minute that you shared in this video. Shalom
6 year old video that remains helpful today. Thanks kindly.
Great to hear!
This is a really excellent, clear demonstration of set up & use of the Porta Portti - great vid - great help! Thank you ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was very helpful since I'm a visual learner!
This the best review and show how I have seen for this toilet, I will be buying it . Thank you
Love your explanation. No questions needed. Well done 😀👍🏿
One of the best demo videos I've ever seen.
Thanks!
First...Thank you so much. I didn't know about the measurement cap on the holding tank. Nice to know.
Also emptying the holding tank is a little easier than you showed. You forgot to explain and show the vent button at the top of the tank as you are dumping it. Thank you again. Not many people would take or have any time to even think about helping others on this matter. You helped me and probably hundreds of people.
Yeah, I know I missed using the vent button during the video so added a note over that section of the video. Glad it helped you in some way.
Nice little video, well done, I just bought the Porta Potti 565E
Thank you, dear woman, for such a detailed explanation. You helped me decide on purchasing a portable toilet.
Glad it was helpful!
This is really a fantastic informative video - thank you 🌻
awesome instructional, just what i was looking for!
Thank you for a short and to the point video.
EXCELLENT VID. EVEN MY WIFE WILL BE HAPPY. THANX !!
Very nicely done. Helpful for me headed to the north end of the Grand Canyon waaayyy off grid taking this unit for the first time.
Just did Yellowstone and Arches ourselves and took ours. Very helpful with it inside our van on very cold nights.
Perfect demo. Thank you
Loved your video thank you so much for sharing this it’s very helpful
I loved it. Thank you so much for the afford to explain 🙏
Thank you for much for your review . Good video .
Instead of dumping our toilet in our house toilet I prefer to dump the waste in our outside plumbing cleanout. I then spray water from our hose and rinse it out like you but stay close to our cleanout. It makes it way more simple and clean. I would not want to dump ours inside if I did not have to. Great video.
You are awesome. Very thorough video.
Awesome VID, will get one, my wife too will love this thing.. :)
Great video. Well done. There is a lot of basic stuff missing from other video reviews of these. Thanks for the effort :)
Glad it was helpful!
great video!! Thanks!
Use this aboard my bigrig. Its top heavy, so on sharp turns, it tips over on its side. Secure it somehow. Plan B instead of dangerous rest areas, staged on the shoulder in the wilderness, or closed interstates due to Winter ice and truckstops being full. GREAT DESIGN. 👍
Yes, it is top heavy with the water reservoir in the top piece. For our Sprinter conversion, it is inside a cabinet with a door, so don't have the tipping problem on a sharp turn. Glad it is working out for you otherwise.
Great video, well done.
Super outstanding you did a great job.we are in the middle of a bathroom remodel. Of course it happens to be our only bathroom.
I feel for you. My parents did a whole kitchen & bathroom remodel the summer before I left for college. They got a working sink the weekend after I left. A porta potti should help a lot. I wish we'd had one.
Great explanation!
Very good video, thank you!
Very helpful thank you.
Hi Thanks for the informative video. I noticed when you emptied the waste into the home toilet you didn't press the white button which lets air in while it drains and stops it glugging and splashing but when you press this button make sure the tank is either level or tilted toward the toilet and not tilted away from the toilet because you don't want waste coming back through the vent. I know this from emptying our caravan toilet and I am checking out your video because we need to get one for using with our tent. Thanks again it is good to see how it all is.
Yes, I forgot that when making the video. There's a screen note to point toward the white button.
You're amazing, great video thank you
Great video Step by Step Awesome
Thanks you. Amazing explication
Omg. THANK YOU!!!❤
This video is several years old, so make sure you search on what are their current products if you are interested in getting one.
Wow...excellent video ...Im going to buy two....for my farm.
I think you'll like them. Just be careful if you are in a cold climate so the water in the upper tank never has a chance to freeze and expand.
Very informative.
Thank you very helpful
great tuition
I love mine!
This is by far the best set up video I’ve found. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this.
What does the pressure relief valve do?
Thanks for the encouragement! The pressure relief valve is a little button that just allows a little air to enter or exit the tank to equalize the pressure before you open the cap to dump it. It just prevents a potential surprise if there is a pressure difference if you've been traveling. Another way to achieve the same thing is to open and shut the flush lever before taking the tank off to empty it.
Great demo. Only one small oversight, press the white button at the back of the holding tank when emptying to break the vacuum in the cassette allowing the contents to discharge much faster.
Yep.
Chemicals are the Very Best Of Course
What an excellent demo! You should be a professional reviewer of products. If you want a job done right, find a woman! Great little toilet, and so cheap at $143 at Walmart online.
For those who think a composting toilet is better, here is some breakdowns:
Natures Head true composting toilet - huge bulky thing $1000 + tax, and you have to manually empty two tanks. Needs sawdust. Environment friendly. Empty pee bottle more often. Poop can stay in the sealed and vented bin for a few weeks till full. Manual dump but not smelly due to aeration.
Separating Bag and Go toilets like Sun-Mar - $670. Separates poop from pee in two bins. Empty both separately. Use a bag for each poop. Does not compost, so you need to toss each time and ruin the environment with a ton of plastic bags.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'll consider it.
The BEST way I've seen (recommended by the brother in law) was to open the tank lever AS YOU SIT ON IT. Stops the bowl getting any dirtier than it needs to. THEN flush, give the water 5 seconds to go down, THEN close. We're using older ones where the level is out the front. Kinda annoying tbh coz your pants can get in the way. I often use it as soon as I get out of bed in the morning, middle of the night, or during rain because my actual toilet is about 25 yards from the front door (house is over 100 years old).
Thanks for your insight on it. I'm sure yours gets a lot more use than ours does.
People need to know about the vent valve to prevent splashing when emptying. It's the little white button you see on the waste tank.
I know I forgot it while filming, but there is a note in text that I added later.
@@OTSGVideoBabe I thought only men didn’t read directions, obviously women don’t either! You should re do the video rather than telling people to read your notes! Jeeeesh this was stupid!
@@charlestait5303 You're so kind, Charlie. I'm sure you can make a video so much better than mine.
@@OTSGVideoBabe Hey, you got caught. Now just apologize and correct your mistake! Do you have any idea how many people will get splashed with human waste because of your inaccurate instructions?
@@charlestait5303 You're a DB!

Useful
Great video! Does the battery’s last long for the flush mechanism. Trying to decide between the electric and manual version.
We're still using the batteries that came with it, which are some off-label type. We got ours in December '16, I believe. We use it just for camping, so not a huge amount of use, so take that for what it's worth.
ok so you CAN just add the lower tank solution ahead of time even if it sits there for some time??
also do you NOT have to add some flush solution with the top tank like other models suggest?
The tank enzyme solution along with a little water can be in there for awhile as long as it doesn't freeze. I don't know about any flush solution, I've only used water.
I’ve read some people had problems with it leaking, any thoughts?
I have not, but have only had it a year and used it primarily on camping trips in the last 6 months.
how long after use does it take for the chemicals in the waste holding tank to liquify waste? I'm interested in emptying waste tank as quick as possible in only liquid form. Also, there are different brands of waste tank treatment, like aqua max, aqua bio, and campa fresh. Do they all perform the same?
Sorry for the slow reply. Computer issues. I don't have answers to your questions about the time needed for waste to liquify, and I've only used the one brand of additive. Hopefully you can find answers somewhere else. Sorry!
Q: Should you shake the lower portion after putting in the 2 ounce treatment/4 ounce water to sanitize or reduce smell of the ceiling and upper walls?
You could go ahead and do that. I usually just rock it from side to side to get it to have a chance to go up on the sides of the tank.
@@OTSGVideoBabe Thanks
Thank you for uploading informative video. can you please provide me a weblink to purchase this from or what stores i can find this in? Thanks

Is it safe to use a bleach solution, or bleach wipes to clean the seat, and bowl?
I've only used Windex on the seat of ours. I sort of remember from when I opened the box that they don't want you to use anything harsh on the plastic. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Thank you so much! Very helpful.
The manual sucks.
based on your experience, how many times can you flush in a day before it becomes full?
Maybe 30 times or so. A lot depends on how much water someone uses to flush.
Tide Liquid and I use as much as a Load Of wash. It works well if you’re out of Chemicals
Do you have any bad smells coming from it? (Between uses I mean), I am looking for a toilet option for a camper conversion, and I am trying to decide between a porta potty or a composting toilet. Cheers
I've never used a composting toilet, so don't have a comparison experience to comment on. I can smell some of the enzyme used to break it down but it isn't bad. The seal is pretty good on the flushing mechanism, so there is minimal smell coming out from there. My son (that likes to complain) doesn't like the smell or even the idea of the Porta Potti being in our van. His twin brother is fine with it, as are my husband and I. We keep it in a compartment in the back of our camper van, so that may help a bit as well. The freezing issue does favor the composting toilet over the Porta Potty though if you plan to use it in freezing conditions. Price is definitely in the Porta Potti's favor. A lot may depend on if you are using it for weekend camping now and then or want to live full time with it. Full time use or during cold weather favors the composting toilet. Weekend or vacation trips probably favor the Porta Potti.
if it helps - I'm going composting - by separating liquid you get rid of the odor #( went t a demo the other week and the day kindly brought buckets in three stages of breakdown - one used the day before, no odor. The other huge advantage is, if you separate off the liquid,, then you'll have to empty the solids FAR less
I have this toilet, there is ZERO smell.
Just found out that this product has been discontinued. Good Luck finding parts.
Just looked at the Thetford webpage and the 565E still seems to be listed as an active product.
Can you smell the tank when it is not in use?
You can smell a little of the enzyme that goes in. If you dump it regularly and don't leave it for long periods with waste in the tank, it isn't bad at all in my opinion. Everyone's nose is different. I'm a mom of twins, so changed a lot of diapers in my time. Not much phases me, so keep that in mind. One viewer suggested burning a candle to take any smells out of the air in a van or camper.
Had mine for a month between dumping in it. Use campa chem and expect no smell!
What if you run out of batteries? Just add water?
Yeah, I think so.
Why not?
I'm a truck driver and have a PP in my truck. Is it ok to dump at a rest area??
Sure. Dump a third or so of the tank into a toilet, flush, and repeat until it is empty. Carefully add water from a source that is grey water or won't be used for drinking (avoid splashing back toward the source) to rinse and dump again, repeating until the tank is reasonably clean. Then add the 2 ouches of EcoSmart chemical and 4 ounces of water to begin again.
rayne colwell folks do that all the Time.
To make it easier to dump with less splash, press the little white vent button next to the handle by your thumb...... makes it fast and easy without splash. ....that's what that button is for... lol
You're right, I forgot to mention that while doing the dumping. I do have a note at 5:05 about the pressure release button being there. Thanks!
Yeah I only mentioned it because you didn't press it...
what is cost . How to purchase /place order . It can be deleivered at Bhopal
This is the Thetford website. Perhaps they have a distributor in India. Good luck. www.thetford.com/product/porta-potti-565e/
If you put 🧊 ice cubes (as much as possible) and let chill will cut down on smell
Good thought. I'll have to try it sometime when using it quickly after emptying it.
Could you use grey water to flush?
Sure you could pour some in and use that for flushing action, activate the lever to dump in into the lower tank, then use the lever again to close it. My pump has gone out after four years, possibly from corroded batteries, so that may be my solution as well.
@@OTSGVideoBabe what if I just filled it up w/ grey water the way you did w/ the fresh water?
I've read that when you're cleaning the toilet it smells so bad it's overwhelming. Did you find this to be true or do you do something special so it doesn't smell so so bad when you're cleaning it?
It isn't overwhelming, but there is a smell because you are dumping contents from a toilet. For one thing, don't leave it in there a long, long time and it won't be as bad. I'm a mom of twins, so smelled a lot of diapers and grew up on a farm with animals. I saw a video where a couple were highly dramatic about the smell of it and eliminated it from their list of choices for their van because of it. We don't live in ours, so it is for weekends and vacation. My reaction to them was, "grow up". I don't think they had children.
OTSGVideoBabe Is it ok to dump every 4 days, or do you recommend dumping more often even if it not half full? Also, when cleaning, is ok to use a little bleach mixed with water to make sure it’s fully clean?
@@Bigtay68 Dump as often as you choose when there is a good place to dump it. Every time you dump though requires more of the enzyme to be added so that is the downside as well as having to do the task of dumping. We did a 10 day trip with 2 people and only dumped it when we got home. When other facilities were available, we used those of course. The smell didn't really change to my nose. Others may be much more sensitive. Regarding bleach, I haven't tried that. I don't think that I would use it in the bottom tank since it may interfere with the enzymes. It is probably fine on the upper plastic parts such as the seat and rim.
@@Bigtay68 don't use bleach, it's going to kill the enzymes that breaks down the solids. i would look for non-bleach biodegradable cleaners. (just bought the Thetford Curve 565e but haven't used it yet. still building my camper van).
where to buy? thanks
I bought mine on-line through Walmart.com. Currently selling for $122.18.

$143 at Walmart today. Online only.
Wow love your video thanks a lot. Can i put some kind of deodorant on the upper part of the toilet?
I don't think that I'd add anything to the water supply, but you could stick a small room deodorizer pack somewhere on the top if you wanted to.
OTSGVideoBabe wow you’re quick thanks a million
Best way to deodorize is light a candle and burn off gases naturally. Or use an enzyme based spray like Stink Off.
@@lass-inangeles7564 Good tip! Thanks.
I want portable toilet
You didn’t use the thumb vent when you dumped in home toilet!!! That’s why you get splashed!!! Read the directions!!!
the hilarity of grown ass people saying #1 and #2. Why is everyone so scared of poop & pee? Defecate and micturate. Teetee & doody. Avalanche and rain.
Next time, eat a lot of blueberries so that we can at least pretend that you were just using food coloring for the demo.
I don't mind the realism in this showing. Because to be honest there are questions all the time if it really does break down solid waste. If you have an iffy tummy and get sick in watching then you know it's not for you. Nothing bothers me but I am lucky that way.
You shouldn't need to flush the toilet it will do that once the water reaches a certain level in the toilet.
Also dont forget to use the pressure release valve.
Was that actually poop! Geez
Going for realism here. But I'd say it's better than the couple (surely without children and never changed a diaper in their lives) who are aghast at the task of dumping it.
That was not a realistic test. Every girl that I've ever known used half of the roll each time.
Then she will clog it up or use a lot of water to get it to go down.
@@OTSGVideoBabe That was a joke.

Very good but you forgot to mention to make sure the valve opening that you open to flush from the top to the bottom is closed when you take to the dumpster. You’d be surprised how many people wouldn’t check it and have it gushing out over their feet! 🫣
Awesome video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
