I just acquired a 2024 toro z master 2000 52” with the new Turbo force deck and those front baffles do not exist anymore. It is a totally full wide open deck. Well the discharge baffle is still same and has that gap still.
@@JohnnyMow It cuts very well, but have not had the opportunity to really test it due to lack of growth of grass here in Nashville, TN since we are in a drought. Haven’t cut some of my customers grass in a month and looks like we are having an early grass season here. The one mower everyone over looks is the Husqvarna deck in the Z500 series it’s probably one of the best cutting decks out there that gives a clean cut with no double cutting, but the only draw back on those decks is that it does not have the discharge baffle and causes the grass not to be discharge as clean.
I actually asked a Toro senior engineer at a gie expo as to why the gap in the turbo baffle exists. He told me it helps the air flow of the deck when dry. Most mower companies unfortunately do not design deck to cut wet grass.
Johnny Mow I believe the intent is a combination of helping the deck throw grass using more of the width of the opening and reducing the grass build up behind the turbo baffle
There’s only four decks on the market for a commercial cutter. Velocity + , JD 7iron, ICD, and Husqvarna z500x series (which is same mirror imagine of the 7iron) all four of these decks have a wide open discharge chute and are not tightly baffled. They do not clump. Yes occasional they need some minor scraping but very little. Cut any time of day with them wet or dry. I have ran the 7iron great cutting deck very clean doesn’t stripe as good as velocity out of the gate but can stripe when set properly. Currently use the velocity on my cheetah 1 37 vanguard. Just incredible. I personally find it very hard to believe that a velocity or even a 7iron cannot cut northeast grass. I just do not believe it. I’d have to bring my cheetah up there and I just don’t have the time to or I would. I think you need to look at cheetah 2 with the 37 vanguard efi myself. It’s a whole different animal with that engine. I don’t think scag had the vanguards when you played with them.
Owned three scags and have demoed Deere, both cut real good but the density of northeast grass makes them struggle. The clipping left behind are too long due to the open design and they struggle to clean up the mess every mower makes in the NE
Well sucks for you guys then. If the decks I mentioned cannot cut that crap up there then your out of luck. Your only option is to cut when it’s dry period. Every other deck is clump city heck a lot of them clump in the dry when cutting thick tall grass.
What's your thoughts on using different blades on the same mower for overgrown yards my brother said he uses a higher lift blade with a longer fin on the blade on the discharge side so it kicks out the grass and mid lift for the rest this is on a scag velocity deck
I’m wondering if somehow one could get a piece of flat steel around the thickness that would make it flush, perhaps make a way that it’s temporary to see what the outcome is rather than welding it to see if it helps then if not it’s no big deal it can be removed. This video has me thinking 🤔
@@josh-e3j it bolts on the deck. So im going to un bolt it and fab up a new piece to fit the way Johnny showed its supposed to in the video and see how it works. I might try this weekend. I've been throwing clumps in wet grass all week. Funny thing. My older turbo force deck does not do that. Idk what they changed but they tweaked something. I have a zmaster 6000 series with a 34hp Kohler on it. If I get that piece made ill report back
Johnny Mow this is exactly what I deal with on a daily basis. These mowers rock and I’m very happy with them. I have the 60’ and 52’ 3000 series going on for 4 years now, so Ive had my experience with this deck day in and day out. The 60’ doesn’t clog up near as bad as my 52’ cut. My 52’ clogs up all the time it’s terrible. I almost find myself scraping it out every other yard but this is in damp to wet conditions. The other issue that Ive found that you haven’t mention yet, is the channel that runs along the front that runs in between the baffles and outer deck area. This area will fill up with grass then get impacted with all kinds of debris. It’s a little more time consuming cleaning out than just scraping the deck. Not sure if you have ran into that yet but you soon will in time trust me lol. What I would like to know is when that channel area fills up with debris does it effect the vacuum? I’m not sure however I find myself cleaning it all the time. The only thing I think we could do as far as the bracket area where the clippings come out would be to have a welder weld a piece of flat thin metal over that area. It’s interesting you would mention all this because I have thought the exact same thing over time and no one has mention this but you. Thanks for this video glad I’m not alone lol
I have this same mower a 60’ and 52’ your right about that the spindle housings get packed with grass as well. I have to clean them out time and time again 🤷♂️
Johnny... concerning that rear exit baffle, just elongate the bolt hole closest to the exit about 1/8 inch and slide that outer most portion of that baffle forward about 1/8 inch. Should fix that problem, I believe.
Never tried any other mower other than the PRO Z 960 & the V-Ride II & I’ve got to say yhe Cub does really well in high & damp grass. But the V-Ride II does a little better at chopping it all up before it comes out of the deck.
I believe that exists that way due to cost of manufacturing. It is less expensive to make a flat cut than an angled one. Also since that is removable, I would guess the mounting is with 2 bolts. If you want that flush, you would need adjustability through an oblong hole which again is a cost consideration. Based on all of this, I would say there is an aftermarket opportunity with this.
It says it in the manual book not to cut wet grass And the mower is not designed to cut wet grass and I would not want to cut wet grass because it’s too hard on the mower And it’s too hard on the turf and I will make the cut look crappy
First time I saw this presentation, I wonder if toro was listening to you, because from what I understand they did remove or make some changes on the 2021 Toro 4000 series decks. The deck wasn't really my main concern, it was the hydro gear transaxles. Remember I asked you about it around 2 weeks ago? From what I'm hearing from several people is that so far no problems. Although none of the guys had a whole lot of hours( 300 - 600) on theirs. Anyway, I took your advice and I'm getting a lazer s. Might try the toro next year. Going to look at some trailers today. I'm probably going to start off with a 14 ft. I almost forgot where you're at when you were saying the grass doesn't grow as fast in the summer. Seems like may through Aug down here it grows very fast.
I'm not digging the star shaped spindles on that Toro deck! Good place for grass clippings to build up and leave clumps behind! Horrible design by Toro! That's why exmark is better than Toro!
its does build up grass but never will be heavy enough to drop off. Also those are the last generation spindles, the new ones look like an exmark but are 9'' diameter and are top mounted
My Grasshopper mower new is double the price of that toro. Nice cast iron spindles compared to the aluminum ones but theres still some spots where grass can catch a little in my baffle system. Its all fixavle with some metal fab skills but when you drop 10k to 20k on a mower it should be right from the dealer IMO. Again a Grasshopper is a true comercial mower with a diesel engine and shaft drivendeck designed to last 10 to 15k hours before full overhaul or replacement but still has a few quirks

Palmer Marcus makes sense
Palmer Marcus I’m still not sure about that tho because dry grass plugs that gap?🤔

Gravely Mach One with the HVO deck is the best I’ve ran in wet grass. It’s a beast!
@@morganer10 I have a Mach One , and you are exactly right that mow is the best I’ve ever seen , like you said it a beast.

I still run scag up there. One pass. I’d also run a scag windstorm up there. Blow those suckers off and roll on.

I was always going to redesign the discharge baffle because I also don't understand that gap. Just haven't had the free time to weld something up.
Michael Kamphaus keep me informed

Love my Turbo Force Deck. It does clump a little and that baffle by the discharge chute could be a problem.
Minnesota Lawn and Landscape love the drck
Facing the deck, on left side, that piece unbolts.

Josh's Lawn Care I’ve owned three of these machines all with the same issue.
What about the configuration on the spindle? That design looks like catches grass clipping also is not a smooth surface.

Hey Johnny have you tried one Ulta high lift blade at the discharge opening only? Take care 👍
Johnny what kind of blares do you use. I have the comparable exmark.

Dave Allen that is a great idea
Good video. Are you sure that your accelerator bracket isn’t the issue? Maybe if the bracket wasn’t there it wouldn’t be clumping there?
Looked like there was a bracket. Nvm
There is no bracket for the accelerator

Jordi Hester thanks buddy
Would you own another Exmark in the future? Already wanting to go back to Toro but thinking about giving Exmark a try.
DaddyODylan no way too much money. The same series mower is almost 13,000 I bought that toro for 9700
Both of my icd decks accumulate grass on the turbo baffle and it’s flush with the opening
L&M Quality Lawn Care they all do that but clumps fall from that area. Just fall off
You should try wrapping some heavy duty tape or vinyl around that baffle area and see if it helps.
Team Metal duct tape fixes everything
Johnny Mow lol that’s right!
All valid points Johnny! Hopefully Toro is listening 😉
J's Crazy Cutz, LLC hopefully it really does cut amazing
Real good info man!
You got your wish. The lower end z master now has a turbo force deck without the adjustable baffle.
Darryl Ore I saw that.
That's the problem I always had with my Toro T bar walk behind mowers alot of clumping with wet grass.
Victor Rippe it’s puzzling
In the thumbnail I thought you were taking a saw-zal to that part of the deck lol I was like what!!?!
Nathan Stults 😂

But Jonnnyyyy, just take a grinder to that lip!
ProGreen LAWN I’m thinking about that but it is under warranty🤔
johnnnnnnyyyyy sounds like you got buyers remorse. i see another 2100z in your future.
PCGonline no not really I can sale this tomorrow. I’ve got 55 hours on it and I’ve made 4500 with it. I live the cut it just baffles me
PCGonline that 2100 is in my final two mowers tho. Toro verses ferrris
