My mom was one of the first black students at UNC -Chapel Hill and received a Celebratory letter for being a Black pioneer-She is 83 years old

I went to predominantly white schools throughout grammar school and barely got by. Went to NCCU for college a few years later and graduated with honors. Not because it was easier, it was because they saw how serious I took it and they believed in me and my purpose. I’ll be forever grateful I attended an HBCU ✊🏿🛑

Too many people reject the fact that Black HBCU graduates are highly intelligent and very capable so thus we highlight the source of our education. As a successful marketing executive (now retired), my executive position in the Fortune 100 company was questioned and resented. Everything about me was foreign to them...but I lasted 25 years despite attempts to drive me off. They eventually told me they didn't need me anymore. The company was acquired by a larger company and they all lost their jobs.

We can’t expect people to have empathy when they haven’t had to deal with the adversity in regards to marginalization. They act the way they do because they see that the tables can turn. This has been the history of this country! They made laws so on purpose so that people can continue to be marginalized while they are in control! They can’t take what they dish out!
I used to think all racists (in America, at least) knew who they were, and they were ok with it.
I'm realizing that some racists don't even know that they're racist, but they're so used to the American way, they confuse their racism with Patriotism.

Exactly! I came here to say just that. Megan Kelly acts like no white person has ever mentioned that they went to a predominantly white school. It's not racist for them to mention they went to Harvard, Yale or Princeton, or other PWIs, nor is it racist for us to have pride in having gone HBCUs. Some people just don't want us to have ANYTHING.
And if you can make it through all these circumstances, you are considered a DEI hire. The dog whistles are constantly used to degrade us. The problem is, our own people buy into it and it’s pretty sad 😢

I agree and disagree with you about HBCUs. Yes, it's inexcusable that there was a need for them. Yet, on the other hand, they allowed their students to be in a safe, nurturing place without being constantly monitored by white people (and I'm a white woman saying this). In short, being at an HBCU gave them a chance to breathe.

When people say, I went to Harvard, Yale, Univ. of Mich., wherever, if it's not a HBCU they're saying, 'I went to a mostly white university'. No one is ever called out for it, and few, other than minorities, are bothered that they attended a place lacking diversity. So, I guess to Megan, that's a normal choice for some, but not for others.

And in the early days of HBCUs, white students were not only welcomed; they attended. HBCUs and Oberlin are the oldest non-segregated institutions of higher education in this country. And they should be recognized as such.

Megan Kelly is in my opinion one of the worst kinds of people it's someone who pushes a narrative that they know it's not true she does it for profit plain and simple. She knows exactly why HBCU's exist.
