- Today’s video is about how to create hanfu hairstyles or ancient Chinese hairstyles. All you need are some hair pieces. It’s the easiest way to recreate an ancient look.
Hanfu, meaning Han Chinese Clothing, or as I'd like to call it Han Couture, is what ancient Chinese people wore for thousands of years.
Traditional Chinese Clothes changed from dynasty to dynasty and there exists hundreds of variations.

I think it would be wonderful if you could explain us how this were actually made by the women in their time, and how they hold it in place. I find your videos amazing!!
thats what ive been searching this whole time and still havent found it
She has made a video that kinda explains these hair pieces in ancient china, how they were made, the materials and etc. :)
@@Arthur-Riveria oh I didn't know! Thank you! :)
@@lady_phantom_ Np it's one of her older vids. It's interesting, lmao always thougt they were real hair and not a piece or smth.
@@Arthur-Riveria lmao same!
I had always wondered how they managed to get their hair in such intricate styles. It never occurred to me that hair pieces would be used! I wonder what material they would use to make the hair back when we didn’t have synthetic material?
Hair! Wigs and hairpieces historically would be made from human hair the same way many extensions are today. Poor women would sell their hair, or for pads of hair that were used just for bulk and were tucked under where they weren't seen, people would save the hair from combs and brushes.
@@Hearthburn1 that was less common tho, horse hair was used a lot tho
@@emilyrose3490 That’s nuts 😵💫 horse hair is sooo thick! Did they really need that much hair when they never cut their own out of filial piety? Small hair pieces I can understand, but larger ones?
Thank you for doing these in English. Your explanations are very clear and precise. This is probably the easiest to follow hair video that I’ve seen. If I can’t find them in my hair color, I will make my own. Thank you so much!
Someone needs to create these pieces in brown curly hair!
I was just thinking the same thing!
Same thought here! Except Im actually Chinese and have natural curly hair. Would love to see how these looks translated.
Also, in some other colors ... i am a dark ass blond... if i use these, it woudl look wayy offf on my hair ;)
Rewatching this video again, and I have to say that the style with the bun that can be twisted down to the side is easy to do with curly hair! I do it all the time when I put my hair up in a top bun, and you can make it levitate just based on the fullness of your hair!
Hi Ally, please make a content about how Chinese ancestors treated their hair to make it long and shiny. I often watch in Chinese ancestral drama their women's hair is so amazing.
Thank you...for the beautiful exploration of Ancient Chinese hairstyle 😊
"All you need are these hair pieces. It's the easiest way to create an ancient look." Me being white with a very unique naturally highlighted hair color.... Frick.
You mean pale, right? No one is white. Everyone is just a shade of brown actually.
@@nette9836 I meant I'm caucasian. Point is no black hair :'). And that's fair. Though I'd say a shade of orange, cuz brown is just a dark shade of orange XD heck my hair color is strawberry blonde, so essentially orange too...
there are some hairstyles she did (in it's in another video in her channel- ruclips.net/video/FAoWpw1gRVA/видео.html) with just the hair volume inserts, those work as it's meant to be wrapped under the hair. Looks more natural for people with dyed hair/non black hair 🙂
But those you kinda need to twist the buns and braids yourself, aound the hair inserts 😅
I really love your accent! I would love to learn more about the Qing and Ming dynasty, you help so much!!! You are also very pretty!
So glad you made this! Would love another hairstyle video. Also curious about variations in hanfu styles based on seasons :)
this video is soo calming and beautiful! You are soo beautiful! i don’t even know why i’m watching this i’m not getting dressed in traditional chinese any time soon! 😂
I loved the hair styles and hair jewelry from the show princess wei young… I also loved the dresses they wore as well. I’m not sure about the history of the time as I am American but would love more insight on the garments…thanks
You look so great 🥺💙
I don't know how I got here, but I'm glad I did.

Would you be willing to do a traditional Chinese hairstyle history video? I would love that!
one of the oldest beauty materials are wigs and hair extensions, even back in old egypt they'd wear wigs and stuff, it was waaay easier to dress up
So cute!
美美的小姐姐👍
Do people still wear these today if they want to? Aww you look so pretty with the flowers in your hair.

Holaaaaaaaa wow lo que haces es fascinante espero q llegues al millon preciosa saludos de Peru
The Shen Yun people said that the loopy style was how fairies were depicted in Han dynasty? Would you say they are engaging in wishful thinking and that this hairstyle can be found no earlier than the Tang dynasty? Thank you for this wonderful video.
I love them :3
Thank you Ally. How to secure the rabbit double headbud for short hair ? Thank you
I would love to know where to purchase these exact hair pieces! I can't find these anywhere online
so cool!!
Could a foreigner wear these to create the same hairstyles? Out of respect and appreciation of how beautiful it is!
You should do a video for Qing dynasty headdress
Where do you recommend buying the hairpieces?
Could you do some jia gu wen hanzi characters? (甲骨文) I really find jia gu wen easier to recognize than seal script clerical or especially running script.
Me over here with hair longer than most peoples entire bodies doing these without using external accessories for the fun of it lol
Where could I order some?!
其實我覺得像漢朝那種鬆鬆的馬尾就很好看 簡單大方
You’re so cute and beautiful. Just love learning from you. Thanks for all you teach us.
Hi, where can I buy the hair pieces?
Where can you buy the hair pieces?
Hi Ally! Do you know if these hair pieces can be purchased in colors other than black? I would like to get some that match my natural hair color (light brown), but so far, all I can find online are black.
I have light brown hair, where can I get hair extensions exactly like my colour??
Where can you buy these? I'm sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it. Perhaps its difficult to find on the internet using English? I haven't been able to find anything like them.
Where can we buy these?
So cute 😍
What are somd good places to purchase the hair pieces by the way? Thank you
Could you please do the hairstyle of Bai Qiang from ten Miles of peach blossom
There is actually a hair piece made after her character. Just search 白浅发包 (Bai Qian Hairpiece) and you will find it :)
@@FiveThousandYears Thank you si much

@@qingyun3726 thank you!!
Do you know what the hair ornament is called for men's top knot?
🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Do you have link to the hair inserts?
I would like to know in chinese historical drama ,the hair of actress are very long ,is it their real longer because in the end of the drama ,the actress in the real life don't have this longer .
They wear wigs
Interesting to know how it's done!
Where can I order these hair pieces?
cute!
Cool video. Is there any way to make the looped hairstyle (I don't know the name for it, but like the one you said looked like it was from The Longest Day in Chang'an) without a hairpiece, or would that always be required?
It's definitely doable. The hair piece just makes it easier for beginners. You can use stick shaped hair piece or your own hair if it's long enough.
@@FiveThousandYears Thanks. I probably couldn't even do it right with the hairpiece, just curious😊
Too bad I'm blond so I can't use these :(
But very interesting video. Thank you!
Turtelik, same problem here! 🙄😭
lol just dye your hair to black
So did the ancient Chinese use hair pieces.
It have to make the observation if all of these beautiful hairstyles were used ONLY for highest status women? or every women could wear them??
I think women wear their hair long then,so no hair extensions are used. Modern women who have short hair will of course wear hair extensions/wigs
I dont know why im here im nearly bald
701st like
This isn’t helpful for me T-T My hair isn’t black and matching my hair color isn’t easy. I have long hair though…
I've always wondered about Footbinding in China. There is a lot of information saying that it is an old feudal custom. But I am really interested in the traditional culture of the ancient Chinese people, because at that time the moral values were really much higher than the present era. So I really want to know about the habits of old women. I believe what they do has a sense of preserving moral values. Thank you very much if you could be interested in my comment
