Been wanting to try to play Zain for a while to get some more info on what Marth does in this matchup, but didn't really have a good opportunity until recently. Offered a BO5 money match on his Twitch stream and surprisingly he said yes.
...so spoiler, I got 3-0'd, and the 2nd game wasn't even particularly close. ;-; He clearly didn't know what he was doing the first game and just better playered me. The second game he mostly just refined his punish and neutral from the last game and I failed to adapt accordingly. The third game he kinda figured out edgeguarding and mixed up his recovery better, but I got a slightly better handle on his neutral gameplan and was able to do a tiny bit better.
I really wanted to see how he edgeguarded me and whether he'd end up doing something the other Marths I played hadn't thought of. It seems like he landed on the same ideas of stage spiking with fair (which is untechable for some reason?) and knocking me away from stage with really deep bairs. I got zero-to-deathed once, which very rarely happens to me against Marths. Also messed up a few crucial edgeguards, including missing a dtilt after hitting a particularly hard walltech, which hurt a lot. Still, not sure I'd have done much better even if I executed properly. All that said, that was a fun experience. *_* GGs Zain! c(^_^)7
(The Slippi replay glitched around 1:02 and re-recording it didn't help. Take my word that didn't happen in game. O= )

Wait a second, I took a game off of Captain Pretzel in Ness dittos, Captain Pretzel took a few stocks off of Zain. Therefore I took a few stocks off of Zain!! And that makes me a top 100 player by default :)

What a legend. You're the reason why I think kirby really is mid tier, has huge potential, and why I now secondary him. The fact you had zain struggle on netplay where him or mang0 is #1 blows my mind
@horn he is cracked, true but he himself thinks kirby is mid
@horn he has grab follow ups, on platform down throw tech chase is really really good, and up throw has followups dependant on which DI
Thank you so much, and glad to have another Kirby player on board :D I wouldn't say Zain struggled so much as he was confused out of his mind a bit before getting his composure. Was still a good experience though.
Also what's all this talk about no mobility or punish game or good disjoints :O I can't make a character look better than they are, the tools I'm using are the same as every other Kirby has access to (=
Also I can't shield drop or pivot or amsah tech or SDI very well yet, so def got a long way to go before optimizing this character. ***_***

It seemed to me like you are just a really solid player who is crippled by having Kirby.
You obviously know more about the character than anyone, @Captain pretzel but it looks like Kirby's moves don't even combo into anything big. Maybe he has a better punish against spacies but who doesn't?
That was fucking amazing, to think you took a crack at the number one, playing decently against him. What the actual fuck.
In fairness, the man had no idea what he was doing against the character and won by quite literally just out-melee'ing me. :O

Unbelievable dude. Even taking a stock off the best marth in the world with fucking kirby is incredible. Can't wait to see your kirby make top 50 and higher my guy. Insanely exciting to see this kirby become prominent in melee. Amazing stuff dude

Sick Kirby. Very few mistakes and lots of tricky counterplay.
Thanks friend! :D There were a lot more mistakes than I'd have liked, especially edgeguarding, but I'm pretty happy with my defense.
6:23 holy crap did you combo out of side b ? i believed this move wasn't even safe on hit
That particular sequence isn't a true combo, as Marth can SDI out or airdodge out, technically. However, it does work pretty reliably regardless, and it's even more reliable on fastfallers. :D I wouldn't necessarily call it safe on it, but the amount of players that can reliably punish in that situation is shockingly low.

Game 3 was really close. I feel like you could have definitely gotten him to the last stock with 2 "missed" edge guards and maybe even taken a game. I wish Kirby had a solid KO move and a consistent means to rack up percent on whiff punishes. His movement is really fun and I've always felt he could be a solid mid tier with just the slightest of buffs.
idk kirby's already a mid tier i think :O but don't let the closeness fool you zain was pretty much in control the whole time and he clearly doesn't even understand the matchup. i think a rematch would go ever worse for me ;-;
@@CaptainPretzel yeah I mean its a difference of both player skill, the match up and knowledge thereof, I just meant I think you had a shot, a really far one, to take that last game. I think getting him to last stock was definitely close though. I guess saying "really close" was kind of sensationalist. There were a couple of moments that could have made it much closer but you still would have had to work for a whole stock

It's cause each of kirbys jumps (besides grounded jump) are puny compared to other characters with just 2

Yeah just a Slippi glitch, I recorded the video twice and the glitch happened both times :P
