the fact that lore wise the earthmover is almost certainly at least as scared of you as you were (probably) surprised by it's sheer size the first time someone fights this think because V1 was basically custom made to kill this thing (earthmovers were the last machine types made that actually got to make an impact on the war before it ended and V1 was made so late it couldn't be mass produced in order to actually do anything in the war before it ended)
also here's how to insta ride the rocket slightly move your camera down then do this in quick phase : shoot the rocket, Freeze it, dash forward, and then unfreeze the rocket the phasing is like almost an instant but there's still a gap in between
I never really got the hang of this, but from other comments I've at least been able to nail the whiplash method. TBH I wouldn't mind if rocket mounting was made even easier. I found this out last night when i waa tryna us no clip and full bright to see what big guy looked like Dam though ultrakill community be finding all of this stuff before a day even passes
I watched a livestream that was binging the game until the update came out, and it only took 3 hours for them to complete Layer 7 and then beat this boss in 28 seconds. Hearing about the community feats is one thing, but seeing it live was ridiculous!
So unfortunately the lobotomy strat is patched. Probably an unintentional thing that skips 90% of the level. All respects to those who never got to do it.
Is there a lore reason for why v1 picks a fight with this boss? Correct me if i’m wrong but don’t most other bosses attack you while you’re moving towards and exit or the exit is only revealed when the boss is defeated? I get that v1 wants blood and that this is the reason why it fights basically anything but besides the defense system, brain and enemy spawns there’s not really a lot to get here, not even when the boss dies is there a lake of blood for it. So if the exit is right across the grey plane and could be reached by explosions and rocket riding, is the only reason v1 can’t just leave (as far as the lore goes) that it has to kill it just because? Is it programmed with a need to beat the biggest/toughest opponents just to prove it can? The dialogue in clair de soleil would indicate that it is capable of spite and being motivated partly by a feeling of rivalry or hatred. Maybe it was running low on fuel and didn’t encounter any easier enemies around. (Also i get that you gotta fight the boss because it’s a game i’m just wondering what v1’s motivation would be.)
In the beginning of the level the Earth Mover notices and renders you a threat, and tries to smite you right there and then, until another earth mover that is far in the distance hits its defense systems, changing its target. Not to mention, it actively tries to flush you out and declares you an intruder. While V1 is out for blood, and the Earth mover may not spew any signifiant amount, the enemies on the earth mover do, hence v1 goes on and slaughters everything there.
IIRC the lore for the Earthmover says that it was one of the last things built in the Last War, and it specifically mentions that it has a vulnerability to being destroyed from the inside by a small and agile target. V1 was developed for the Last War, but never got to fufill its purpose before the New Peace. There's a good chance that destroying Earthmovers *was V1's purpose* - that would explain why in-universe V1 saw this massive thing and immediately went 'this needs to die', even if it gets little to no blood out of it.
-Probably not gonna happen, but what if there was a secret toggle for "Lobotomy Mode" that reintroduces the bug in a future update for people who've already defeated Benjamin, but scores that use the strat can't be accepted into in-game leaderboards and submitted speedruns have to be under a lobotomy% subcategory-
You seem to be able to fight this boss by climbing through its interior like a massive fortress and triggering a metroid escape sequence, Or you can surf rockets up to its head and judo-chop its brain. Either way is sick AF, I love this game.
So theres a glitch when the earthmover did the attack animation you can clip to its head where the shield generator is located. And when tou clip, the laser from the defense system got activated, which (i think) just glitched and start damaging the shield generator itself.
really interesting is that the insides, where the brain of the earthmover is, is actually located inside the head of the earthmover. As in, the place where you kill the brain is physically there the entire time. When you get there normally, the game freezes the whole neck and head so it stays still, but by getting there with unintended methods like in the video, the game triggers the bossfight while the head is still moving. The brain then friendly fires itself to death as the head moves around.
@@tamary.leitmotiv no, the actual way to do the challenge is to shoot the generator of a crane that is right before the defense system fight. The crane will drop a bomb and create a hole leading to its belly.
