    So what happens exactly when you put the red and white wire together and connect then to the red extension wire? I have seen that is similar videos. Does this dim the backlight by 50% constantly?

      Yes. Some boost gauges (from other brands) only have a backlight when the dash lights are on, or they dim when the backlights are on. By putting them together you either have a backlight at all times, or a dimmed backlight at all times (depending on how your gauge works)
