At the time it felt that “Labour Of Love”s biggest accomplishment was bringing the sound of a school recorder solo onto alternative radio; amongst all the distorted guitar and the Sonic Youth feedback noise. But it also built an aesthetic that would be seen throughout a lot of Aussie pop of the next couple of decades; pop both of the indie variety (eg. Architecture in Helsinki) and very much not (eg. Merril Bainbridge’s “Mouth”)! “Labour Of Love” is a 9.
This is such a timeless, beautiful song. This video looks to be edited differently than the one that I've seen other versions of on youtube recently. Were there different edits? Was there a different version for US versus Australia, maybe? Either way, love the song and the video!
