Shortly after some of them appeared on the morning show with Regis Philbin as a follow up to Donahue's lack of understanding. Enjoy--- complete and uncut - Развлечения
This is the first "80s talk show with punks" clip I've seen where the hosts are respectful and ask serious, genuine questions... and the punks they pick to be on the show are bright kids, not hand picked to be outrageous.
punk was dead by 86
@@VolkXue it was dead by 80 the exploited officially killed punk, all that was left was indie and hardcore
That’s Ray from WarZone, not punk, that’s the point. There is a big difference. Hardcore may have looked “punk” to people that didn’t know, but hardcore was quite a bit different. Most punks I knew just did it to try and be outrageous, or were posers. Hardcore kids tried to make a difference in the world and probably did more to spread things like Veganism than any other group... and look where veganism is now.
Exactly!!!
couldn't happen in 2020 - now everything is measured and targeted
I'd love to see a reunion of this group to hear about their lives since 1986 & what they are doing today.
I was reading some of the comments it sounds like both of the guys have passed and the girl to the far right is popular on Instagram 🤷
Murphy's Law are still playing.
They're grandparents.
I'd watch that.
What's the girl on the rights name? Awesome video.
I miss the 80's. It was so free and no one bothered you. No cameras, no phones. We loved it and we knew it was a great era.
I miss it, too!
Exactly! Fights were all you worried about and many clubs had dress codes. The best decade!
So true.
I don’t know. I was too busy at that time mountain biking around Mount Diablo - with Thin Lizzy live and dangerous in my Walkman
That was not just the eighties. That was all of the human history prior to the existence and mass distribution of smartphones, which eliminated privacy for everybody.
Natalie is the perfect girl. I liked everything she said.....and she is gorgeous.
Impossible to find women like this today. There are plenty of good looking alt chicks at school but they're all into Bukowski and drugs. Fml.

Natalie has zero intelligence. Intelligent people get the facts before they state their views. Donahue was/ is known as an extremely liberal person. She's just a very angry and prejudiced person. She's 53 now and probably working some dead-end job because no employer would put up with an attitude like that.

So strange they're in their 50s now.

I don’t think you comment was all that necessary 😅 just because you don’t understand the kids today doesn’t make us any less articulate and smart
The irony of your comment just shows that you are everything the kids in this video would have hated.
@@lavish_ale5470 Don’t listen to people like that. They’re fucking idiots. I’m old. Just because I don’t understand someone doesn’t mean I dismiss them. That especially pertains to young people. I don’t expect everyone to understand me. Old people didn’t understand me when when I was young, but I respected them anyway. Young people don’t understand me now that I’m old, but I respect them. Because you’re human. You’re alive. And because life is hard. So be different. Be you. And when you get old, don’t dismiss young kids. I guarantee you will not understand them, but you can empathize.

To me, this was the best time to be alive in the entire 20th Century. The music was second to none; and I mean every genre, the movies were awesome, Reagan was president, the U.S. economy was in pretty decent shape( not perfect but no time period is) technology was developing, home computers were entering the market, Apple was born, then Mircosoft, the first cell phone was available and being used by the rich, the fashions were just fantastic, and race relations were better than the previous 20 years before.
The CD came out in 1982, and also the Sony Walkman and later on the DiscMan. People interacted with one another in a normal way, and times were basically normal. Prices were decent, and with a few exceptions, everything was hitting on all cylinders. Today? I don't know where to begin. It's basically the worst time to be alive than anytime period I could think of. I would rather be in 1930's depression era, than live in this immoral, horrible, Godless, apathetic degenerate society.
@@QuantumEffectResidue Don't believe the hype put out by the right wing media. In his second term, Reagan was senile and would've been impeached. Punk is meaningless. It's meaningless because those of us who make it are worthless to society.
People trying to give punk some greater meaning or purpose are directly responsible for GG Allin & Murder Junkies, Antiseen, and all of the other politically incorrect "murdercore" bands that arose as a response to the SJWs of the day. Punk was never about do-gooders and happy fee-fees.

Dad knew we would all eventually grow up.
Dad warned against tattoos. He said something like "When you get older you can get a decent haircut and change your wardrobe, but you can't wash off a tattoo. Do you want to get to be my age with a constant reminder of being an idiot once?" I remember him talking to my best friend, who was thinking about getting a tattoo. Dad started talking about how much he hated potatoes....??... Dad grew up before WWII on a potato farm. Lol
I listen to heavier music than both of my parents. Maybe you just didn’t raise them on the right music
It can be hard to explain why you're drawn to something.
For me, punk started with hearing the music and being moved by it. Felt like an outlet for a deep anger in me. I started going to shows at 13 (1995) and fell in love with what was going on. Chaotic wildness and fun with a definite underlying sense of care. Punks cared for eachother and wanted to have a safe(ish) place together to go fucking nuts in and shake some demons out or dance around like an idiot, vent some aggression.
Punk rock saved my life by showing me it was ok to have anger, it was ok to let it out, and that I have a family there in the punk scene that loves me.

Todd on here became quite a prolific session guitarist. A lot of excellent musicians come from the hardcore scene.
As soon as I saw "New York hardcore" I immediately rolled my eyes expecting a bunch of violent jock poseurs...but these kids are alright (well, kids then. I'm actually about the same age as they are/were). It's funny to hear Kathie Lee talking shit about their appearance when she looks more ridiculous accidentally, than they did intentionally.
@UhKl UhKl When you are my age, these are kids.
Ray (Barbieri) and Todd (Youth) were members of the band 'Warzone', which was one of the seminal Hardcore Punk bands out of NYC and as mentioned in the interview, Natalie was at the time dating 'Murphy's Law' frontman Jimmy Gestapo.
Exactly. The Kid's punk style aged a lot more gracefully then the mainstream lady's outfit :)
As a 52 year old, I can confirm that 95% of the girls from my '87 graduation photo were dressed very similarly to Kathie Lee here.
@@usquebaugh1 Yea, it is funny how most of the elements that get remembered as being iconically 80s, like the whole punk look, were actually a pretty rare sight in those days. It was always the most banal elements that were actually popular, but conveniently forgotten. There's a ton of revisionist bullshit in pop culture.
Love the eyeliner & individualism! You guys did you!!!
Hello 👋 how’re you doing?
9:14 “nothing ever works out the way you plan, anyway.”
True story.
it sad ray and todd are gone! god bless themand thanks for all the music!.
And Rip Regis
Would be great to do an update bring whoever is still alive together to see what their perspective on life is now. What a very interesting group of young intelligent people and kudos to Regis and Kathy for talking to him with respect and listening to them and not judging them Regis was a real gem that way he was one of the best journalists out there because he really treated people very kindly for the most part and had a great sense of humor. A real Class act he and Kathy made a great pair.
I was 14 yrs old growing up in NYC at the same time as this and loved punk rock/metal, etc, etc. The scene basically died around 1991 when Nirvana got big. But I will say this, just about every "kid" I grew up with in the 80s in NYC that was part of the scene would consider themselves conservative today and are likely disgusted in the direction this country is going thanks to far left wacko liberals.
I grew up in that era and knew many of teens and young adults that were into that scene..They really were good people and took care of one another....I was the long haired metal head guitar player type and I respected them and they respected me....Wish I could go back to those days..Nobody respects anyone anymore........
The teens and young people happened to be upper middle class kids that rebelled against the preppy look. I'm "generation x" one girl who I went to high school with dressed like a punk rocker was an honor student. So these kids filmed their articulation etc. lead me to believe they also grew up in middle to upper middle class homes.
It would be nice if someone could track these people down and interview them again. I remember meeting a sweet punk rocker at the limelight in NYC , he was the most genuine person you’ve ever meet❤
hey baby, I used to hang around this crew and scene. hit me up. I'm still in NYC.
@@magamaga1827 hey!😘 I moved out of NYC five years ago!
The girl in the Samhain t-shirt looks exactly like Patricia Morrison!
Better than Jenny jones
Chicken gourmet orange juice I know right. They were respectful and didn’t try to belittle them for their choices and had a better audience
Mikey W that Jenny Jones was the worst tv host in the history of tv hosts
It always fascinates me to see the difference between UK/British punk scene and that of other nations such as the USA, in terms of what their interpretation of what punk was/is, be it musically or their political views...
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're going through...

He was a symbol for Individualism, and his words still ring true today as much as from the beginning of time. One of the kindest souls I've ever had the fortune of meeting, very sad that he is gone, but to those who knew him, he will live on forever.
RIP Raybeez and Todd Youth 🙏🙏
I looked exactly like punk #3. Tall blonde, spiked hair. Honestly we were little nuts- but to the contrary- we were not little criminals. We were very connected emotionally and as you might think differently- I consider this innocent times! We just wanted to be able to listen to our music- dress the way we wanted, maybe smoke a bit of justice, and try to borrow money to do it again tonight! I HAD MY BEST LIFE IN THE 80s and I am so glad I was a part of it!
All we wanted was to have the ability to be trusted to do what we wanted to do, make our own decisions. I think we were groundbreaking. We opened the doors for the kids of today who have the ability to have freedom of choice.
Freedom of choice lol. America has been backsliding in every possible way since Reagan. Life is objectively worse for the kids of today. Continue on, in your rose-colored reality bubble. Pretty clear you got yours.
@@rustyshackle917 yeah let me take that back we did open doors but unfortunately we fought the law and the law won as a veteran a mother and a taxpayer I f****** hate Biden and I'm really sick of this country I wasted 10 years in the Army for nothing and now I'm ready to leave
being born in 69 and growing up in the pink scene in la was what saved my life. 53 now and still listen to those old albums. tsol black flag dead Kennedy's the germs. punk is not dead people.
Punk is in our hearts! I'm glad to have been part of that era.
There's a number of traces on Natalie online due to her involvement in NYHC and association with Jimmy G. She had wrote two novels: No Forwarding Address and Outlaw Efforts. Her full name is Natalie Jacobson. If you did a bit digging you will find her current image. Aside from slight aging not much changed.
Todd Youth (the guy next to Natalie) sadly die back in late 2018. He had been working with a number of band over the years (even working with Danzig and Motorhead at some point).
Ray Barbieri, the other bald guy also sadly died back in 1997 due to viral pneumonia. He is a very legendary figure in NYHC scene.
I'm not sure about the other two girls.
Todd (Youth) Schofield, originally from Passaic,N.J., was a highly regarded guitarist and left behind 3 daughters when he passed in L.A. at 47 yrs. old.
They never got around to mentioning what the lifestyle actually is -- DIY, anti-consumerism, and creativity.
Ray should have gotten to speak more. Got cut off by natalie a lot. He had some really thoughtful things to say
Natalie would be about a year older than I am, and gotta say, if she'd gone to my college I'd have had the hots! Love her outspokenness and sense of humor.
With the do you want to be a millionaire and the fluff talk show pieces he did its easy to forget Regis was smart, he did his research and he listened. No shock questions no trying to bait them. We need more like him.
Raybeeeeez RIP.. don't forget the struggle, don't forget the streets. Btw blonde next to Regis is very well spoken.
yes!
In our minds and in our hearts
When Hardcore was Hardcore...
Love NYC SCENE! Being a farm 🚜 boy from Nebraska, 🌽 🌽 🌽 we totally respect the scene. MK 🇺🇸
Regis such a class act.
Mid West he always was!
Todd looks more like a hip hop artist
He's deftnley punk and metal played for danzig
Please Complete All Fields thanks for your reply, I did not know this. Super interesting.
John Mayes thanks for your reply, I did not know this.
@@kaitlinmarie367 no problem he had his own band warzone and in 2oo2 he played with danzig the first album he was on with danzig is called I licifueir
LoL! True...
Dressing similarly is normal for basically all categories or types of people who are into the same thing so they can recognize each other amongst a crowd.
@Pete Testube Being individualists, I doubt they care what others think or what cringes them. In order to find other people into punk outside of their own gatherings, there simply is no other way. Besides, they don't look that much alike. It's not as if they all had identical hair or dress. It was just enough to spot each other.
