@@lenewtype that is correct! Each stage 3 digimon (child level) gets to digivolve twice! Once to stage 4 (champion/adult), and then again to either 5 or 6, whatever their last stage in the anime is. And if you lose a life, you return to the previous stage.
@@GT-Rev On the contrary. I used to play the sequel quite a bit but never liked it as much as the original. Having to collect those eggs to evolve really ruined the pacing and fun of the battles for me. It honestly feels like you reviewed this game out of a perceived obligation as a Digimon fan more than anything else.
I played this game after i was reunited with my mom and i still see this game as the peak of my childhood and it will ever have a special place in my heart.
Absolutely loved this game as a kid, but my definite favorite part is Guilmon's triangle attack/special melee move. "Rock Breaker." It sounds like he says "Butt Licker" and that alone made me spam the move religiously. Makes it all the better now with the Steve Blum/Spike Spiegel meme association
I remember this game fondly. The PS1 was my first ever console, and Digimon Rumble Arena was one of my first games I got for myself. (The PS1 was my older sister's console, but we shared it and DRA was one of the few games I owned for myself). I played it all the time with my dad as a kid.
There's just something about Digimon. There's no other franchise for me where the jank is truly part of the charm. I see what you're saying about it being incredibly unbalanced and the extra mechanics don't really feel like they fit in a smash clone. But stuff like that is what keeps me coming back to Digimon. The stakes have always been low enough that they just try stuff! Sure, they don't get it right very often, but they always spark my imagination. What would a brawler with all these extra mechanics look like if it was fully smoothed out? Could be incredible. I love that I can always count on it to throw me a curve ball 😂

I have such strong memories of this game. I played all the time with my cousins during the summer. We used to get all of the extensions cords and found a TV outside on the street and rolled it to my grandparents backyard so we could all play this game. We made a house rule that everyone had to choose one digimon and no one could use your digmon to fight (unless asked or if you lost it in a fight). 6 cousins, battling day in and day out for a month or so was so much fun! I miss those guys.

I'm not huge on Digimon, just have some childhood nostalgia for it (which is why I watched this and your previous upload), but I really wanted to comment that your delivery is excellent! It's not often I come across a smaller youtuber who sounds so clean per se. It's really pleasant to listen to your videos thanks to how you enunciate different phrases so judiciously and how neatly you've edited voice line cuts. This also makes it more enticing to follow through with the whole video. Good work! I hope you get what I mean, I don't know how else to explain this.
As much as I loved this game and it great effect on my childhood what stuck with me the most is the amazing soundtrack lol, nonetheless another professional review like always, keep it up Wayne!
Digimon Rumble Arena was my introduction to Digimon, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I'd love to see a remake of this game, or at least a Digimon Rumble Arena 3 someday. After all, now that we're finally getting Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4, maybe it's time for Digimon fighting games to make a comeback!
There was a 3rd game on ps3 and 360 I believe , it had Plesiomon for gomamon which was interesting but I don't think I would have like as much as the 1st 2 and I wish we could get a good next installment

I could be wrong but some of the replacement tracks (the one that replaced the Japanese anime tracks) actually sound close enough to the replaced tracks...so you sorta got the anime tracks but not really.
This game and Rumble Arena 2 are absolute BANGERS with friends or siblings. Me and my sister have a stupid amount of Hours in those games playing against each other
As a kid, I loaned this game to my local gaming store and they allowed me to rent any other game for free because they earned a bunch of money from it because everyone wanted to play it. The disc ended up too scratched to run in the end, but I had a lot of fun.
The intro of rumble arena went so hard. I didnt play a whole lot of PS1 games but that was easily the most entertaining and honestly best looking. Wouldnt have been upset if they used the actual Digimon soundtrack though lol.
8:50 Lots of people presume Gatomon is a rookie when she's actually a champion. You don't get Angewomon because she's an ultimate, not a mega. That's why when you get the mega evolution you get Magnadramon.
Yooo I used to LOVE Rumble Arena!! @@Wayneisboss Haha I feel you definitely glad I didn’t miss out. I suggest looking up digimon rumble arena remastered, it’s a fan project that adds plenty of digimon that weren’t in the original game and it seems to have new stages and slightly better graphics.
Of all the people I played Rumble Arena with as a kid, it was with my grandparents funnily enough. They had this huge container filled with games for PS1, NES, SNES, etc, and Rumble arena was included in their collection (No idea why. Not even they remember how they got it). But yeah, some weekend visits included all of us duking it out with random Digimon in Rumble Arena. My insistence of always picking Terriermon got me crushed often (Thanks for the PTSD flashback while destroying Megagargomon at 9:45 . My grandpa destroyed me so much that way 🤣🤣🤣). My grandparents had no idea what Digimon was or what the anime was about, they were just excited to have a good time gaming with me. Rumble arena will always have that special place in my heart because of my grandparents. Guess it does for them as well because whenever the current Digimon TCG drops a Megagargomon they'll always ask me how to get it ASAP. They just have this collection of Megagargomon cards or something from they Terriermon lineup. It's fantastic and I love it 🤣🤣
Your review made me realize that the reason I loved this game so much as a kid is that it is incredibly simple as a fighting game. I'm awful at fighting games, I generally don't like the genre since the difficulty curve is higher than I'm willing to learn, but I loved this game and played it for hours on end 😅
The difficulty spike when fighting Reapermon at the end of any given digimon's route was a little more than noticeable until you came back with a better, stronger digimon. Otherwise, wasn't ever too bad.
Yeah it's pretty much objectively not that good nowadays, the controls are really janky and it's extremely unbalanced, the voice acting is weird, the maps are also kinda awful gameplay-wise (even though they look great for a ps1 title)... but I think It's still enjoyable for what it is. It's got that good old ps1 era charm to it that keeps me going back to it. It definetly deserves a remake even though we all know it's not going to happen, sadly.
I used to play the sequel quite a bit but never liked it as much as the original. Having to collect those eggs to evolve really ruined the pacing and fun of the battles for me.
Loved this as a kid. Me and my brother/friends would play everytime. The VERY simple control scheme meant we would have to learn how to fool each other, and fake attacks, fake defenses, and learn wich moves were faster or not. Playing as War Greymon or Black War Greymon would always feel cool, using tornados to the wrong size in purpose, until the one we meant to connect would do it and combo with other melee attacks, a circle and ulti. It was almost one whot combo when it would work, Felt amazing and PRO XDDD
@@Wayneisbossyou should also try the RA1 remake made by fans. More people need to know that game that has been in development and getting updates for years
Are you sure the AI didn't break in your roms? In your footage they stand there and just take it, and the final boss can easily chain a combo that can kill you from full life, which is more than "actually manages to put a small amount of challenge", or maybe we remember hard to be harder?
i'm so exited when you are gonna do Rumble Arena 2 i played that so much as a kid with the single player campaign and it was pure fun even when i was able to do the many specific commands for many digimons when i checked in the game menu of the command sequence like something that i can't fully remember anymore but like X button/X button/O button but it felt cool when i checked the command list of the digimons and that i could execute them by remembering them when younger 😅
I'm really your retrospectives man. Its nice to see these old, niche games being put up in a more exploratory light, nostalgic, yes, but its pretty good. I'm quite excited for Digimon World 2, since its the one I had more exposure and attachment too.
Honestly I loved this game, hit me right in the nostalgia haha. Guilmon saying the games title was kinda cute. My cousin says it just like him haha. Made sure to unlock every character, the mini games were kinda fun too. Wargreymon, Blackgreymon and Omnimon were my fav. Back in the day, as a Digimon fan, this game was fun and enjoyable. Love your Digimon videos. Keep it up!
I just always found it amusing that the voices were so different in places. I want to say it was Takato who sounded like he was voiced by Ash's VA? Fun little romp of a game, if you didn't want anything especially deep in your party battler games
8:48 Why would you expect Gatomon to evolve into Angewomon by using an ability that skips them straight to Mega level (tier 6), when Angewomon is an Ultimate level (tier 5)? What the game does here, by skipping over her to Magnadramon (Mega/tier 6), makes perfect sense. Sure, Angewomon is more recognizable since she appeared in the anime, but I think it's fine for the game to forego marketability in favor of technical accuracy here.
I remember when this game also had a lot of myths around it like, beat it on hard 50 times on a row without taking damage and without rebooting your PS1 and you'd get Magnamon or something like that, forums were full of these
This game is the reason I like the Gatomon line because I was unable to beat the boss with any other Digimon and then I guess Cyber Sleuth and Mastemon made me like the evolution line more

@@Magnosummit it helped that you could run forever to kite him ^^;
DIAMOND STORM
I loved the game as a kid, but looking back on it, I'm willing to bet it's not that good. I can't wait to see your review!
This was one of my favorite games growing up. This game was awesome.
I was 8 when the game came out and Renamon was everyone's favorite back then too
The sequel is such an upgrade! Definitely recommend it.
I miss playing digimon rumble arena and arena 2
I played it all the time i never get bored playing it
Digimon rumble arena games was great
Great Video! Are you gonna cover the Second Arena Rumble too?
Planning on it! I'll have to tackle the GBA one at some point too!
@@Wayneisbossyou should also try the RA1 remake made by fans. More people need to know that game that has been in development and getting updates for years
Digimon will always have a place in my heart.
Never played rumble arena 1 but I did play rumble arena 2 on ps2 and to this day still one of my fave fun games
I somehow completely forgot that this game exists, despite playing it a LOT back in the day.
Are you sure the AI didn't break in your roms? In your footage they stand there and just take it, and the final boss can easily chain a combo that can kill you from full life, which is more than "actually manages to put a small amount of challenge", or maybe we remember hard to be harder?
The second game was my life for about a year as a kid.
I'm gonna be honest, this game is so much better multiplayer with friends, and also being a kid helps too.
They need to brint this back, digivolving as an ult makes so much sense
I loved this game as a kid
i'm so exited when you are gonna do Rumble Arena 2 i played that so much as a kid with the single player campaign and it was pure fun even when i was able to do the many specific commands for many digimons when i checked in the game menu of the command sequence like something that i can't fully remember anymore but like X button/X button/O button but it felt cool when i checked the command list of the digimons and that i could execute them by remembering them when younger 😅
I used to watch a nine part series of three dudes just duking it out in this game as a kid. Good times.
This was one of my favorite PS1 games as a kid. Lol glad I found this..idk why this game was so fun though
I'm really your retrospectives man. Its nice to see these old, niche games being put up in a more exploratory light, nostalgic, yes, but its pretty good. I'm quite excited for Digimon World 2, since its the one I had more exposure and attachment too.
My dude, I don't have much to say, I like your content.
That says plenty, and it means a lot :)
You just awoke memories of this game i didn't know i had.
Keep it up!
I remember playing this and Tekken 3 religiously
I played this a lot when I was younger
I loved this game as a kid. Countless hours.
Dude i played this game so much as a kid.
Congrats on 18k subs, I have a feeling that your channel will continue growing. You average way more views per video than average 50k channel
I remember when this game also had a lot of myths around it like, beat it on hard 50 times on a row without taking damage and without rebooting your PS1 and you'd get Magnamon or something like that, forums were full of these
Looking forward to: Digimon: Rumble Arena 2 Review
I LOVED THIS GAME, I STILL HAVE IT!!
I remember me and my brother bought this game. We waited for so long to get home just to play it. Sadly, i remember playing it, but not much lol.
My friends and I would listen to the sled storm soundtrack while playing this game
This game is the reason I like the Gatomon line because I was unable to beat the boss with any other Digimon and then I guess Cyber Sleuth and Mastemon made me like the evolution line more
Mastemon is literally my favourite Digimon ever, she is SO cool
Hey it's me dragon king I followed you in Twitter so you buy every kind of PlayStation Sony box?
