    Schools in the south start and end earlier than those in the north, so it was common for parks in the south to scale back operations in August. On the flip side, they used to start daily operations earlier. Oddly, Great Escape's education days are not open to the public, but SFNE's are. Even if the park is open to the public, those are days to avoid, because the parks are mobbed with school groups.

    Seriously, screw this merger. They should just file for Chapter 11 and restructure rather than create a mega company where the competition isn't relevant and there are so many parks, none will ever be able to get anything relevant. These hours are dreadful. If I take a roadtrip this year, I should focus on smaller parks like Knoebels, Kennywood, Kentucky Kingdom, Holiday World, and Indiana Beach.

      I agree. Cedar Fair and Six Flags' operating styles are incompatible. This reminds me a lot of the failed PennCentral merger, merging two bitter rivals together for the sake of consolidation. All it really does is drag down the rest of the industry, because they can't compete even with the bloated mega company.

    • @jordydejong3376
      @jordydejong3376 4 месяца назад +4

      as much of a bummer this news is , this merger is saving 2 dying theme park businesses riddled with debt, cutting costs on operations and opening days is the only way to do so , incase you didn't notice already, both six flags and cedar fair are bleeding money , big investments into new rides have basically stalled in the last 10 years.
      Both chains have been suffering since the 2008 financial crises and are suffering now from the huge cost of living crises , whit out this merger both chains would have been forced to sell off under preforming parks.
      merging and cutting cost will have some not so great consequences in the near future , and that sucks.
      But for the long term its absolutely necessary to do what they are doing now . its the only way to make sure the parks keep exsicting and keep getting better

      six flags and cedar fair parks with 12 to 15 coasters , that get on average 2 mil visitors a year and are drowning in maintenance and operating costs, its whats killing those parks , and then come the coaster enthusiasts suggesting those parks invest 35 mil in a B&M hyper to save the park , love to see it haha

    I'm sure staffing issues have a lot to do with it as well.
    Oddly enough, Great Escape is actually increasing operating days this summer...the last two seasons they have been closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays while they're returning to seven-day operations in July and August this summer.

      You're right that Great Escape has always had a shorter season. They usually start the weekend before Memorial Day, and go daily by late June. Any weekdays before then are mostly for school groups, where the park opens earlier and closes earlier. As far as the closing times, they are simply restoring the hours they had prior to the covid/staffing cuts. It's 11-7 Monday-Thursday, 11-8 Fridays and Sundays, and 11-9 on Saturdays. From 2021 through 2023, it was 11-6 every day except Saturday which was 11-8.

    makes sense ,most of the sixflags parks have way to many coasters to have them all running even one train on slower days anyways.
    Its not even a staffing issue its a solid business decision , usually Monday thru Thursdays are big money losing days.
    And to the people that are upset by this news , calm down , its a great way to keep the parks profitable and increase statisfaction , of course its amazing to go to a theme park on a midweek day in the offseason , but half the rides dont even run and 75% of the food options are closed anyways .
    Its awsome to marathon your favorite coasters but half of the coasters dont even run anyways or only open for a couple of hours later in the day.
