  • Part of a commemorative event on the occasion of India's Independence Day in 2024, broadcast on shortwave by Akashvani (formerly All India Radio), unfortunately heard with very weak signals and partial audio in Poland.
According to Jose, VU2JOS, who shared publicity of this transmission ahead of it, this broadcast of Flag Hoisting and speech of PM Narendra Modi at Red Fort, Delhi was supposed to run between 01:30-02:40 UTC August 15th, on 11805 kHz via New Delhi with 100kW, and 15260 & 15410 kHz via Bengaluru, both running at 500kW. The transmissions pre-empted usual broadcasts in Baluchi, Indonesian, and Nepali, respectively. In practice, I saw the signals continuing past 03:00 UTC.
The 15260 kHz signal was supposed to carry English commentary. Due to a very weak signal, I couldn't confirm it, but a live speech heard in this recording -- during both 19m signals' peak -- wasn't translated into English, at least simultaneously. Perhaps that man spoke in Hindi first, and carried out the same speech in English later.
Another special was an Address to the Nation by President Droupadi Murmu at 13:30 UTC August 14th. I missed this one, although to my knowledge, it wasn't supposed to run on SW this year. Up until 2020, such broadcasts could be caught either on AIR Vividh Bharati Service on 9865 kHz, or National Channel on 9380 kHz. VBS stopped transmitting on shortwave, while National Channel was closed altogether in January 2019. There also used to be a range of local/regional stations on 60, 49 & 41m bands, but only one of them survived until today - AIR Leh on 4765 kHz.
I chose to record the band at this time on SDRPlay RSP1 and a 5-element LFA Yagi for FM band, as propagation looked really good on that night, and that Yagi, supposedly more suitable for ~90-100 MHz rather than 15 MHz, was performing better than my large loop, currently terminated for unidirectional MW reception!
The content shown was broadcast at 02:12-02:25 UTC August 15th, 2024.
