This, as you may recognize is a maintenance service elevator, still in operation, waiting for you. And we invite you, if you dare, to step aboard because in tonight's episode Fastpass Facts brings to you 5 facts you need to know about the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror!
The Twilight zone tower of terror, like its name indicates, is based on “The Twilight Zone”, an amazing television series that ran from 1959 to 1964. Rod Sterling was the creator of the series and also its host. Actually, many of the props in the hotel queue are references to different original twilight zone episodes so, if you like this show, look for all of the references that are around the hotel!
And speaking about the Twilight Zone and its host, the footage used in the queue preshow is the original footage taken from an episode called “It’s a good life”. But while the footage is all Rod Serling, the voice is not. Mark Silverman provided the voice impersonation for Serling when he introduced the maintenance service elevator that takes us straight into the Twilight Zone!
Now, for the story of one of our favorite rides... Portrait of a hotel, Halloween night 1939. 5 people get in an elevator while a severe thunderstorm is raging outside. While they are in there, a lightning bolt strikes the hotel causing the elevator to drop and crash and the people inside to disappear. No one knows what happened to them and so, the hotel closes abruptly and the mystery remains unsolved. The names of this five people are Sally Shine, Emmaline Partridge, Gilbert Lawrence, Carolyn Crosson, and Dewey.
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is one of the tallest attractions in the Disneyland Resort. With its height being just a little bit under 200 ft and the drop heigh being 130 ft! No wonder it takes us into another dimension!
Everyone thinks that this is a free fall attraction right? Well, it's not! Actually, we fall faster that the speed of gravity! We reach a speed of almost 40 miles per hour while we’re falling! That’s crazy, isn’t it?
Sadly, this amazing attraction is changing in January but you if visit before that date you get to experience, if you dare, the "Late Check Out". You’ll get to go on the ride in complete darkness and you’ll also be treated to a special performance from the Silver Lake Sisters. We already did and its something out of this world!
So the next time you check into a deserted hotel on the dark side of Hollywood, make sure you know just what kind of vacancy you’re filling. My mom couldn’t stand the ride purely for the drops but it was always my dad and I’s favorite to go on together just me and him. We’re both huge Twilight Zone fans and I’m a thrill seeker haha. So sad that they changed it at Disneyland :(

Stuart Alvarez although I agree they shouldn't change it, a few people choosing not to ride it will not make an impact and you'll lose out on seeing what they did with the ride.
I know! Now we get to stare at what looks like the demon reincarnation of It's a Small World.
They didn't really have a choice but to change it. They don't own The twilight zone so they had to pay some other company to have the ride and their lease has ended. Give mission breakout a chance, yeah the theme is different, but it's still the same ride deep down.
Thank god I don’t like drops especially fast ones I get scared easily 😫

Rode this amazing ride earlier this summer during my first ever trip to Disney World. I loved it! I rode it with my dad and my little sister. My little sister hated it unfortunately, in fact she was bawling her eyes out after the ride (She’s under the age of 10 btw). We didn’t make her go on the ride btw, she actually wanted to go. She didn’t think it would be so intense. I felt so bad for her but I’m glad she was brave enough to ride it at least once. Me and my dad rode it a second time on our second day at Hollywood Studios, and even bought some merchandise. As soon as we got home from our trip, I wanted to watch some Twilight Zone stuff because I’m a huge fan of the horror genre and I loved the vibes the ride had. I’d say it’s my second favorite, my favorite being The Haunted Mansion.
There is a chalk circle as a reference to one of the episodes at the California adventure Tower of Terror and if you wait around you can hear a little girl screaming

Just found your video here. So cool! I was the production designer for DCA's TOT. You are the only one I've heard about the episode references! BRAVO! There are 156 episodes of Rod's epic TV show. In the DCA TOT there are (were) 99 specific prop or graphic references to the episodes. You got some of them. Some of them are very obscure though. For instance, by the pay phone in the boiler room just as you exit the library I took a pencil and wrote the names of all the murderers on the Twilight Zone along with their phone numbers. Cool huh? Also, in the library were Burgess Meredith's eyeglasses from Time Enough At Last!!

"Who Are the Silver Lake Sisters?
Fiddler, Fifer and Practical are the stars of the 1933 animated short The Three Little Pigs, Fiddler and Fifer being the work-shirking music lovers and Practical being the forethinking builder of a sturdy brick house. As the story goes, Walt was inspired to create these 3 iconic characters by Dottie, Dolly and Ethel, a 1920s performing trio collectively known as The Silver Lake Sisters. In addition to singing, the sisters each played an instrument, just like their Little Pig counterparts. But unlike The Three Little Pigs, Dottie, Dolly and Ethel loved coffee and thus decided to open a coffee shop.All over the café’s walls, you’ll see memorabilia from The Silver Lake Sisters’ heyday, from black-and-white publicity photos to posters of venues they’ve played, including the Hollywood Tower Hotel ballroom. You’ll also notice a music theme throughout, including booths inlaid with stained glass featuring instrument motifs. Outside, find open-air seating looking out on bustling Buena Vista Street and the beautiful Art Deco-style Carthay Circle fountain. I’ve ridden both ToT and the new Guardians update. And I’m not gonna lie the Guardians update is LIT. I know many people aren’t fond of the change but I loved it.
I would love to see a video of references to previous rides in newer rides. (The 3 heads from Country Bear Jamboree in Winnie the Pooh, The microscope in Star Tours, etc)

the after hour-long was SCARY. Everyone was screaming because they didn't know when it was going to fall. Also I had a backpack on my leg, and could feel it float while we fell. ALSO the elevator guy kept giggling creepily, then legit dabbed while the door closed.

RIP the Tower of Terror. It was a good ride, old fashioned in a good way. It lives on in a hollow she called Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. I regret not riding it more often, but the lines were often dauntingly long.

Well done! My son and I were fortunate enough to ride this last March. I thought it was better than the one in Disney World. I also thought it was cool to have the porcelain doll left on the couch in the lobby. Creepy! The doll is not in the one in Disney World- at least I don't think so! I am really sad it's leaving the park. It's a great ride with great theming.
TBH, I shouldn't be upset cuz I only went on this two times when I was little (I only went on it the second time cuz all the kids had shirts and I couldn't have one unless I went on again) and I'm scared of free fall rides. But I just liked looking at it. I loved the run down style. One time I went with friends (they turned out to be awful they just let me tag along) a year ago and they went on that two times so I just sat on a bench next to it jamming out to the old tunes (which I love) in the background. I was there for an hour but it was still worth it. When I was 5 this is what got me into the twilight zone to this day. So I'm a little upset about the whole changing the theme

its actually just the lights inside the ride and the visual effects that they dont have on during late check out but they do have the audio and the doors still open and your picture is still taken

Big fan of both Twilight Zone TV and Guardians of the Galaxy films and the change was a mistake. The new attraction doesn't do justice to the Guardians of the Galaxy series and now we just don't have a Twilight Zone attraction anymore. The environment for Twilight Zone was much more awe-inspiring in the building that Guardians is.
Have Marvel in California Adventure but not replacing beloved attractions.
