That sure turned out nicely. The setup with the little christmas setup inside is great idea for now. Look forward to the next part of the build. GOD BLESS 🚂💕🎄💕🚂💕🎄💕
@StevesTrains Great job and Video. I too recently purchased the "Christmas Train" you have at the top. Can you provide track type/model and round base dimensions?
It is Kato unitrack. 15” radius on the outer loop and 12.4” on the inner with 13.3 and 18ish” radius track pieces used to transition from one to the other at the top and bottom. The diameter of the base is about 33” or so in this configuration. They make different helixes for different track radii on the website.
You can not easily mix track if it is sectional track with plastic roadbed attached. If it is flex track and turnouts without roadbed attached, you can mix track if it is the same code (eg code 80) but may still have to shim up one track piece when joining different brands as the tie thickness will vary some leading to uneven rail heights at the joint.
Hi Philip here me and my girlfriend are doing my train layout similar to yours but in 00 scale and I've got n scale to.were did you get your helix system from let me know
If installing it on a regular layout with two levels you could use the outer loop for a train to reach the upper level, and then the inner loop for the train to come back down to the lower level. Connecting the two just makes it a fun display for now. I'll redo the track eventually and add a cross over at the bottom and add additional track around the helix.
Excuse me Steve, but paying about $365 to $465 for a complicated kit and having to use clamps, blue tape and glue and paint is not exactly an easy kit for all the money you paid. They should have done MUCH more to make this kit easier to assemble like snap together parts or letters printed on adjoining pieces edges so you know which ends go together etc. 8 to 10 days to assemble this expensive kit, no thanks., especially a double helix layout. Otherwise great video as usual.
There isn't anything hard about it, but it does take a while. I think a middle ground kit where they provide you all the spacers along with paper templates you can use to cut out the rings with a jigsaw from plywood sheets might be a nice option. you could get things put together really quickly that way with a lot less gluing. But, if you don't want to cut any wood, this can be a nice option.
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas!

Fascinating double helix, best wishes for a happy holidays Steve!!🎄🎄🎄💙💙
Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too!
Painting yourself into a corner , glueing yourself inside a circle - same principle.
yeah, although at least I can lift it over my head to get out. lol hard to jump out of the corner
Neat little setup

@ thank you
Can you mix track from various manufacturers to make a layout? I can find track on marketplace, but not always from same manufacturer. Thank you Jim

@@StevesTrains Thank you. At thinking of a 2x4 n scale layout.
Your Harare must be cold to require the semi-gloved hands. But nice work in a kit form.
"Hands" not 'harare'....

@StevesTrains hi right ok thanks
What specific size/description are the Glue Dots? Thanks.

@@StevesTrains Thank you. Have them on order.
Not to troll or be negative, but what the h3ll is the point of a double helix ?

@ ok, it was the up/down only that was leaving me confused…
