Couple Clarifications/Corrections A) Yes, this series would feel a lot more like Indiana Jones movies than James Bond movies. I'm more using the idea of James Bond to prove that a big action/adventure franchise can be successful even if it doesn't follow a very traditional sequel structure, and James Bond is the best example of that. B) James Bond apparently isn't even the second longest running franchise in film history. It is third behind Godzilla (completely forgot about that) and something called Carry On (although it looks like Carry On is no longer running).
Or Kowalski can be his muggle informant. Wizards usually discount muggles information as not mattering and especially when being in a country that you aren't familiar with having an expert on muggle studies is important.

Yeah, but if they made a whole movie about Dumbledore and Grindelwald then Rowling would actually have to back up her fanfiction, and we cant have that now can we. -_-
This is so easy to fix too, just give Newt a proper reason to be there. Have Grindelwald commiting atrocities with beasts that only Newt has the knowhow and experience to deal with. It's that simple.

It really is staggering why they couldn't just give us that. I loved the first movie. i signed up for fantasti beasts, not literally washed-out Johnny Depp.
JK Rowling just wanted someone to fight Grindelwald. Warner Bros apparently approached JKR to make a documentary about Fantastic Beasts, and she apparently said, “I have a better idea” and pitched them her someone to fight another Voldemort plotline, which became the “looks promising” FBAWTFT and then the woefully terrible FBCOG movies. Unfortunately, Fantastic Beasts will remain a Dumbledore loves yet defeats Grindelwald back story.
This! Dumbledore should be the protagonist. He's the one with the most investment in Grindewald turning bad, and we (the audience) have the most investment in Dumbledore because we know his character from the HP books/movies.
I'm actually getting excited for your version! Seeing Newt make friends in every film despite his bad social skills would be insanely inspiring for kids with social anxiety.
Fantastic beasts 2 could've been better and made more sense if it was about Newt freeing animals from the carnival in the beginning parts of the movie.
I agree 100% with what you said. I never understood the decision to make the magic zookeeper movies about wizard WWII. One of the things in the books that I always wanted more info about was Bill and his dragon-hunting wizard crew. They should've made two different wizarding world series: one about the fight between grindelwald and dumbledore and the other about Newt and his adventures. They don't really fit together, but both could be great seperately.
If you wanted to be edgy you could tackle conservationism in areas that are culturally resistant to it, like China. The harvesting of magical pangolins for medicine practically writes itself!

9:05 Now there's a handsome looking Twitter page! But seriously, you hit the nail on the head on how this series should have been. I'd be stoked to watch each installment! Keep it up, Nando!
Funny thing is: this is exactly the type of series format I initially thought FB was going to be when movie 1 was announced. Hearing the title for the sequel was a huge letdown (along with the first movie's Depp/Grindlewald reveal)... I'm glad to see others like this idea so much; I just wish it had been the reality compared to what we got. Rowling shouldn't write scripts.
Ah man, I was half listening to the video while doing other stuff, I caught myself starting to get stoaked for that chinese fantastic beasts sequel that'd include mythological dragons and other creatures from the region and would integrate eastern traditional ideologies about respecting the environment and the fragility of echo systems. Ah, now I'm kinda disappointed I won't get to see that. That would've been so much fun.. Awesome video!
This is what i was hoping for. A story JUST about Newt. The ending to the first one when Grindlewald showed up just killed it for me. If you're doing a grindlewald movie, it should really just revolve mainly around Dumbledore and grindlewald.
Nando, HOW do you not have more subs? With full confidence, we can say we've preferred every one of your pitches more than the original property, whether it's a minor tweak or a full re-write. The big studios need minds like yours to wrangle up all the cats they keep letting out of the various bags. As massive HP fans, we couldn't exactly pinpoint what was bothering us about the new FB franchise, but man did you hit the nail on the head. Very well done, as always. 👏🏻
I now really want to hear your Gilderoy Lockhart-as-fake-James Bond pitch hahahaha Also my friend and I came up with a Fantastic Beats pitch that places Newt in the Wild West instead of New York, where there are muggle cowboys aware of wizards trying to harness magical energy in objects as well as Native Americans who can wield magic by drawing upon the powers of the nature and earth around them.
Very well said! They should do the series of movies that Nando described and then if they wanted, do a trilogy of the Dumbledore vs Grindewald conflict. But have them separate!
As someone who's started watching all the Bond films for the first time recently, I really enjoy the traveling aspect. Despite some of the more regrettable choices (oh boy, "Live and Let Die" is really something), those early movies have a sense of place that I think is really absent from the Bond films (and honestly, *a lot* of films) of present. Those movies make me want to visit! I wish so much that these were the Wizarding World movies we were actually getting. -S
I would have LOVED a conservationist perspective from the movies about Newt! And like, maybe they could have thrown in the Grindelwald storyline as more of a subplot that grows alongside Newt's story and then they finally interact in the last two movies or something. I agree with you, making Grindelwald the main villain in the whole series was a mistake
I think he is probably alive: They said Grindelwald used the polyjuice potion to pass as Graves, which is a fairly simple potion, to begin with. However, it's not explicitly said if the donor of the DNA would need to be alive to make the potion - the most complex example given was Barty Crouch Jr. passing as Moody, and he kept him alive to question him (to pass convincingly for a long time) and because he needed his har. Even if Grindelwald is arrogant and a completely overpower wizard, I think he would need this type of info to pass as a boss high in the bureaucratic hierarchy as Graves. But the director of the first movie doesn't know if he is alive or what will happen to Graves/Farrell, so I supposed Rowling keeps control of this kind of stuff under an iron fist and they completely rely on her. And she made that weird scene of Minerva (a character with a very well established canon backstory, including dates) teaching in Hogwarts ten years before she was born in the last one, so, I'm not expecting a lot of canonical consistency from now on LOL
The first movie should've been called "The Wizarding World: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" or something like that. That way they're not locked into having Newt being the main character for all five films, and they can switch to Dumbledore in the third movie. I mean they clearly do not want to tell Newt's story. They want to tell the story of the first Wizarding War and Dumbledore v. Grindelwald. I don't remember Newt getting any development in COG, things just kind of happen around him. Edit: "The Wizarding World" also doesn't lock them into specifically the 1940s and you can tell a bunch of stories from a bunch of different time periods.
This is the most brilliant video you've made. Not my favorite necessarily (I'll watch Fox Loves Forests once a year for the rest of my life), but the one that really shows how sharp your mind is for clever storytelling. I was talking about this with my brother, and we thought of a way they could have Grindelwald as a villain that actually makes sense. What if Grindelwald was was using magical creatures to help his war? Grindelwald could be funding hunting operations, or other such things to hurt the creatures, and Newt, after finding this out starts to more directly fight against him. Another addition we came up with is that instead of Newt being summoned to the ministry of magic to have his travel rights banned. he was summoned to join a team that would protect creatures, sponsored, of course, by Newts brother. At first Newt would deny, but as it progresses he decides to join the team so he can better help the creatures, because he cannot stop the major thing endangering his creatures (Grindelwald) alone. This could also lend itself to a character arc where Newt becomes pessimistic towards humanity, but eventually through the team he may come around.
@Greg Elchert and is focusing on the least interesting part of that one something, instead, the most interesting part of that one something is left to a tweet!
I was very nervous to click on this because fantastic beasts 1 is one of my favourite movies of all time, but you did really well! also, now I'm super envious of the universe that gets james bond magizoologist movies :D
Your rewrite sounds like how I wanted Rowling to end Potter; have Harry leave England and see how the Magical World is. He didn't want the BWL fame so why would he stay with the Man Who Conquered fame?
I see your point, but as a character, Harry doesn't really seem like the type of guy who would do a lot of traveling. He only traveled in the last book because he was basically forced to.
Fantastic beasts I agree, and imagine how this world tour could have been used to set up for the Gridelwald arc: not only could it be world building and character development / seeding as we see Newt’s travels, but also getting little reveals of Grindelwald’s influence and witnessing the growing threat within each movie, slowly building and culminating in an all-out wizarding war arc. Easily a way to play the long game and keep the audience vested in each series when done correctly.
Thank you so much for creating these videos! I look forward to them so much; I love the way your mind works. You are an incredible storyteller and we need people of your caliber telling stories on the big screen!
Ideas for a Magical World, off the top of my Head: 1. Newt goes to China, where the ongoing civil wars are disturbing the magical wildlife. The Chinese wizards are planning a culling to protect their secrecy. 2. Newt goes to Australia, where wizards live in relative isolation due to Australia's small population. He is doing a survey of local life, but he has to deal with wizard outlaws who live in the Bush. Just two ideas I came up with.
This is an important point I could never put into words. Another book series I’ve read Lockwood and Company fell into the same trap of creating a flat big bad when it’s main strength was its episodical adventures
I think that, if JK Rowling wanted to tell the story of Grindelwald, she should not have made Newt her protagonist. They shouldn't care about each other.
YES. This is what I wanted. When Fantastic Beasts was first announced, what I wanted was sort of like an Indiana Jones type story but with a softer male lead. And I think that’s sort of along the lines of what you’re talking about? An action-filled series traveling around the world in the past, discovering magical things, meeting new people and occasionally running into old friends? That’s what I wanted, but idk
This alternative ending you've suggested for "Fantastic Beasts" is brilliant. I love the notion that Graves genuinely wants to protect his city but Newt gets to be heroic by helping the Obscurus using compassion instead of force.

That is so very interesting.
This is legitimately the vest rethinking you’ve done so far in my opinion! Love this idea!!!
100$ says the whole "franchise" ends up being just a weird convoluted subplot for the Harry Potter movies.
@Greg Elchert and is focusing on the least interesting part of that one something, instead, the most interesting part of that one something is left to a tweet!
"You lost me at _team effort."_
- J.K, probably
Wow. I really wish this is what Fantastic Beasts actually did. Nando, you're a genius. Too bad Rowling will never do any of this.
I really thought you were going to pitch Graves being the protagonist from film 2 onwards
This idea is legit amazing. How is your head filled with so many of these, Nando?
This is honestly the best idea you have ever made a video for!
Magical Indiana Jones is a wonderful idea.
Blown away by how much better your movie is. I cannot wait for your Animagus on the Prowl series.
This James bond format is so brilliant
I just love how you're able to have this very creative and interesting ideas, who would work so much better than what we got!
The name’s Lockhart... Gilderoy Lockhart...
This is probably my favourite idea of yours so far. Absolutely love it
This is awesome! Glad u did something after the mostly nitpicking podcast
Colin Farrell was literally the only part of the first one that I liked.
I love Johnny Depp but when Colin transformed into him I felt betrayed. I was hoping for Colin to be in more of these
Kowalski was a human in a "Harry Potter" movie, that's what made him so cool. Mishandled or not, I get why people wanted more of him.
It should be about Newt finding and catching magical creatures before problems happen.
nah, this whole franchise should be "Wizard Ace Ventura" 'cause that's exactly what I was thinking the first time I watch the very first trailer LOL
Fantastic beasts
I agree, and imagine how this world tour could have been used to set up for the Gridelwald arc: not only could it be world building and character development / seeding as we see Newt’s travels, but also getting little reveals of Grindelwald’s influence and witnessing the growing threat within each movie, slowly building and culminating in an all-out wizarding war arc. Easily a way to play the long game and keep the audience vested in each series when done correctly.
I'm here for the butterfly effect caused by you small change! Seriously, it's like a catch praise and all
I come here for the small changes that aren’t so small. Love these videos 👍🏽
Thank you so much for creating these videos! I look forward to them so much; I love the way your mind works. You are an incredible storyteller and we need people of your caliber telling stories on the big screen!
Ideas for a Magical World, off the top of my Head:
I feel like you’re describing a Doctor Who/Captain Planet/Harry Potter franchise and I am HERE for it
This is an important point I could never put into words. Another book series I’ve read Lockwood and Company fell into the same trap of creating a flat big bad when it’s main strength was its episodical adventures
I never even seemed interested in this franchise, but your pitch for it sounds amazing
10:24 Anurag Kashyap/Zoya Akhtar are the people for this!!
Man you're awesome, never stop making videos!
I think that, if JK Rowling wanted to tell the story of Grindelwald, she should not have made Newt her protagonist. They shouldn't care about each other.
Wow. This could've been the Magical Doctor Who. JK really missed it with this one.
Of all the small changes this is genius
Making Newt a super important person in the history of the wizarding world shrinks the scope of the universe immensely
your videos are always so fabulous. you truly understand storytelling. thank you so much for sharing them with us!
Gods, now I really want this series! Those movies would be awesome
You give me hope for the future of movies and film
I met your channel last week and I just love your work, I'll definitively check the podcast even though I don't like podcasts in general.
I never thought of that series like that! I can’t believe they missed out on that it would have been incredible!!!!
Never watched this movie, but it's a new Nando Vid. I can't help myself.
Nobody:
Jk Rowling: DOBBY HAD A INTENSE RELATIONSHIP WITH VOLDEMORT
this hs to be the first of your "rewrites" that actually makes me sad for what could have been! what an amazing idea!
Oh I love the James Bond analogy! Wonderfully counterintuitive since Newt is so gentle...
Oh no you have to keep Kowalski...!
Last time I was this early j.k rowland was actually sane.
Nando's videos always make me wish I was living in an alternate universe where his ideas were how movies turned out.
This alternative ending you've suggested for "Fantastic Beasts" is brilliant. I love the notion that Graves genuinely wants to protect his city but Newt gets to be heroic by helping the Obscurus using compassion instead of force.
