‘Sinatra 100’ Reveals Intimate Moments From Frank Sinatra’s Life | TODAY - Развлечения
I was actually one of the cameramen on this day. I overheard Sinatra Junior telling his publicist he wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to appear. It’s the publicist who forced him to do it
I worked also worked there...in the late 70's. Are you still with NBC?
@@njpete987 No. In fact I never worked at NBC.
@@thomascampbell5633 Really? You were an in-studio cameraman at NBC, but you were not on the NBC payroll?
Epic Games for you thank you soooo very much for the info. You have certainly helped us to understand. If I were him, I would have been the same way. Again...thank you and Blessings to you as well. : )
@@njpete987 great question. I was wondering that myself.
I think he was just being honest. It seemed like he was not the one who put this together and was being used as a prop.
That is ACCURATE. I knew him for nearly 30 years
he had been struggling with throat cancer, which would not put anyone in a good mood
You have to wonder why he agreed to the Today interview if he was so against the book they’re promoting…makes no sense.
@@kimberleyashley9407 sadly he passed away 5 months after this interview.
@@williamrizzo1285 💜
I enjoyed this interview. I liked that he didn't put on any fake excitment or exuberance that you see so many T.V. guests do when they're being interviewed.
This video actually cracks me up. FSJ has no patience for small talk and nonsense chatter and it's hilarious.
HA I scrolled the comments as soon as he said "You better ask him" to see if anyone else thought the same thing
@@zimecka72 me too lmao, u can already tell
Then why is he there?
@@Nocturne22 I think you’d better ask Charles that question
Hoda says this was their worst guest ever. I didn't think he was that bad. He clearly didn't want to be there, but still answered their questions. They're just mad he wasn't phony.
Yeah I expected a lot worse. He wasn't that bad, just monotone.
Correct on the phoney bit
Kathy said that!
@@darellgrant8753 Maybe she did as well, but the article that embedded video also had a video of Hoda saying it on Watch What Happens Live.
I hear and see a flat affect, suggestive of any number of psych disorders as well as the hellish medications used to treat them.
Kathie Lee Gifford said that Frank Sinatra Jr was a terrible guest who made for the worst interview of her life. The guy didn't really know his father until he was older and he thought of himself as an employee then. Did they expect him to have wonderful childhood memories to share?
Heres just a passing observation.....I opened up for Frank Jr in the 70s at a place called the Liberty Bell Lounge in Malaga NJ...Eating breakfast at the Somers Point Diner the following morning,he was somewhat despondant...He said to me quote "No matter what I do,I cant fill the old mans shoes"When I said that all you can do is your best,he smiled and we parted company, never to perform together again....Reflecting on his passing,I now realize it must have been difficult singing with the last name of Sinatra....RIP...Frank Jr......piano man Tommy Zito
Tommy Zito In that respect, it didn't really help that he looked so much like his Dad. Also Sinatra is rather a distinctive name, and of course him being a man his voice was always going to be compared to Frank senior, which is one problem that Nancy didn't/doesn't have. I would imagine that the children of, say, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis could be more anonymous in everyday life because their surnames are more common.
I think Frank's (Jr.) last album was his best. Nice comment.
@@lindashelley3635 Excellent, thoughtful observations.
Nice bit of history, Tommy. I assume being blamed for your own kidnapping and having the name Sinatra can be quite a burden.
Great story tommy. Thank you.. butt! Although it must have bern a huge load to carry for jr.. junior! Also traveled the world..stood in. Such beautiful ho.es throughout his life. Live the life of a king.
Which many of us. Couldn't even fathom. I'd trade places with him. In a new. York minute.
Aww. Frank Sinatra Jr seems like a nice, stoic man. Not sure how this is the worst interview they’ve had, but he seemed genuine and participated with their annoying banter.
Because he was very unfriendly and in a terrible mood. They were doing him a favor by having him on the show. The least he could do is be gracious.
I don’t see unfriendly or someone in a terrible mood.
@@shivj5415 On these morning shows, unless you're grinning like a gargoyle and cackling over nothing, you're a sourpuss.
I enjoyed this interview with FS jr. A good man, not everybody is goofy KLG.
I read today that Frank Jr. was their worst interview but after seeing it, I didn't think it was soooo bad!!!!!!!
Sad now that Frank Sinatra Jr. has passed. Prayers to his family. 🙏🏾
As soon as you can prove to us that prayers work, we'll all join in.
@@bobuppendown7277 Prayers to his family has many more likes than your "prove" God exist comment..so it looks like they've already joined in without her proof.
It looks like he died about an hour before showing up.
@@jamesdykes2968 5 months later.
@@williamrizzo1285Wow did not know he passed 5 months after the interview. He did not look well. Both of the boys had beautiful voices.
Frank Jr is eternally underrated as a singer. Not only did he sing, but he wrote and arranged much of his own music. A true talent. Wish I could have seen him live.
Frank Jr. looked like “death warmed over” here
I'll be honest - my first impression is that Sinatra REALLY didn't want to be here, and he was going to be as difficult as possible to make those who booked him 'suffer' for it. Looking at several of the comments on here, I understand there may have been other factors in play, but it still leads me to wonder: if he didn't want to do this appearance (or any promotion for the book, as has been speculated), then why give the family blessing? If Charles was only the publicist (co-author), wouldn't Sinatra have had a little more control over the appearances he made? Because of this interview, Gifford listed Sinatra as the worst guest she ever had. I refuse to believe hosts don't know what's going on behind the scenes with their guests, so there's more to the story than what people think.
Believe it or not, most hosts don't know what's going on with their own shows. Especially one that's as overproduced as the Today Show, that's got a dozen producers and studio executives making all the decisions. At that point, the host is just the talent and they get paid to read cue cards.
He was always so expressionless. I'd have liked he expressed a kind of feelings in his performances I don't remember him laughing or smiling a bit.
@@victorkong82 He was still there to promote a book he didn't want to promote. That's his fault.
I met Frank Sinatra Jr at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.. he spoke to a group of high school jazz students who I was chaperoning and he was very much a nice and outgoing gentleman. We saw him perform that night and 5 days later he passed away in Dayton Beach, FL.
So he wasnt as weird as this guy?
@@seanmcveigh27 I'm sorry but your question does not make any sense (???).
@@girlygirl1890 He means that FSJr wasn't as "wierd" (unfriendly) speaking to the jazz students as he was in the interview with Hoda and KLG.
@@thomascampbell5633 thank you for clarifying. I swear it takes some time for some people (like me) to wake up. (lol). I was like...huh????? Thanks. : )
@@girlygirl1890 Yeah, sometimes when you understand something, it seems so simple. It's like Homer Simpson figuring something out and going, "Doh!": ruclips.net/video/6hyOLydRFfU/видео.html
Thanks for the response : ).
It looked like he wasn't feeling well and passed away shortly thereafter. Cut him some slack.
Exactly! He died not long after this, so likely he was not really feeling all that well. It's so insensitive that Hoda and that twit Kathie Lee keep harping on "this was our worst interview ever!". It wasn't that bad, he answered a few, and deferred to the other guy on other questions. Nothing wrong with that. He didn't get up on a soap box and tell everyone else what they should be doing in their lives while not doing the same. You know, Ellen comes to mind. Closes every show with "Be kind!" while she's as far from kind as anyone on the planet.
@@TWS-pd5dc I always despised Ellen Degeneres and the phony way she parades herself as a humanitarian. With her, it's all about self promotion and the almighty buck. From the start, never had any use for Kathie Lee. Wonder if she had any after thoughts about Frank Jr, after making all those disparaging comments and have him pass away shortly thereafter ?
@@garymorell6924 No, and that's what really has me ticked off. Both she and Hoda continue to this day whine about him being "worst interview ever". No compassion at all, he just didn't conform to their idea of a "good guest". How dare he be dying at the time? This was their show, he should have sucked it up and been talkative! Can't make this stuff up.
@glennstenbergkvist7813,Your post, a bit harsh but loaded with truth .!
Based on his"enthusiasm", Frank Jr. must have been blackmailed into being there.
this is the best interview that has ever been conducted congrats to all involved
I feel a bit sorry for Frank Jr. He was a conflicted man who never quite found his place in relation to his father's shadow. He was a talented singer and what he wanted most was to be a respected performer in his own right. Yet he loved his father and was proud of his legacy and wanted to protect it, and as he aged he realised that his father's shadow paid the bills. At first he avoided covering his father's songs, but then realised that it's what his audience wanted to hear. After his father's death he was the closest people could get to hearing the "real" Frank - I expect Frank Jr took some pride in that, yet it also contradicted his desire to be himself. And he ended up doing things like this, to respect his father, but was very uncomfortable and irritable in the process, as he likely realised it reinforced the impression that he was "just Frank's son". It's also interesting to hear how Frank Jr referred to his father; there were two different men. In work matters he calls him "Frank Sinatra", the star that overshadowed him his entire life; in personal matters he calls him "dad", the father he loved and admired. No wonder therefore he didn't know how to act and was at times unenthusiastic, for example in this interview; it was a conflict he never reconciled before his death.
Well said. Both great men in their own rights.
Frank Jr. was not always like this. He was in a bad mood during this interview and he really doesn't look well.
John Paradise he died shortly after this
@@lifeisgolden41 Kathie Lee strangled him back stage.
He is sick at that time!!
To laugh at FSJ's obvious pain at not being part of the holiday was cruel.
It appears to me that Frank Jr. was not feeling too good. I saw him back in the 70's and he was so nice. I got to talk to him very shortly but I never mentioned his father to him because all FSJ wanted was to be his own person. I don't think he was ever truly happy.
KT, i had the same experience, i worked security for one of his shows and got a chance to talk to him, i was truly curious about HIM and he seemed to appreciate that.
I saw Frank Jr. perform one evening at the Rainbow Room in Manhattan. Years later I saw Frank Sr. perform at the Garden State Arts Center in NJ.
He looked like he did not feel well at all. I did not recognize him at first I had to look twice it does not even look like him at all. He looked like he had lost a lot of weight I was shocked when I heard he had passed R I P Frank Jr. He just looked like he did not want to be there at all.
He was not feeling well and did his best.
These ladies said Frank JR. was the worst guest ever. He seemed pretty genuine to me in this interview. Really says something about Kotb and Gifford.
You don't have to be disingenuous to be considered the worst guest ever.
I agree with you. I thought his answers were fine. They dished him afterwards like junior high girls.
@@davewanamaker3690 They were asked an opinion and they gave it.
The interviewers said that this was their worst interview. Funny enough, they neglect to mention their part in the awful interview. Frank does not seem to be in the best mood, and they asked him questions that were as stupid as they come.
I agree completely. It was obvious they didn’t know anything about his personal history and that picture of Christmas where he was absent was so awful it was physically painful to watch. Shame on them.
Did I misunderstand? He did not want to write the book about his father, it was decided for him?
It sounds as if he was personally against the book, but the estate/trust went against his wishes.
Aw, Mr. Sinatra ("Jr.") wasn't bad at all here. He spoke his mind, I like that. I got here from an article where Koda calls him "the worst guest ever"! :-/ I got there searching Raquel Welch nastiest guest ever. I thought Gifford had said she was horrible?? (Or was that Marie Osmond, the uncongenial diva, herself!?)
100% agree...they both seem like aholes calling FS jr the worst ever
Frank jr isn't having any of it he's like bro I'm tired I wanna go home in being used lol 🤣
Jones, Basie, Sinatra. So much awesome in that picture.
I alway knew who Frank Sinatra was but i just started likeing his music.
@Glennsten Bergkvist He only need the mob.
God only knows what was going through his mind during this time. Perhaps, he wasn't feeling well due to the radiation/medical treatments he was going through for his cancer. And a constant thought of anything happening to him during this time in his life. He clearly didn't want to be there. May he rest in peace.
Well, when you agree to do something, unless the interviewer is the source of your displeasure, you go through with it in the manner people expect. It's four minutes! He looked like he was sitting on a pine cone right from the start. I admit the two interviewers are somewhat inane happy-news chatterboxes, but, again, what didn't he know when he signed on for this?
He actually did not have a nine decade CAREER. Impossible and not true. He started as a teenager in the early 1930s, and stopped in the mid 1990s. Not 9 decades. Untrue.
+100 Respect 😂
[4:02]
Frank Sinatra is one of my favourites
Hoda is saying now that, " Hoda said of Frank Jr: 'it was the worst guest we ever had, bar none"..
Gee, if that was the worst interview she's ever had, she must live a pretty charmed life. He wasn't that bad, especially with the comments of the coauthor of his book.
Ready to go? Ok, just remember, whatever you do, DO NOT SMILE.
Frank wasn't really rude at all. He's just not a very outgoing personality. Is that such a crime? He's still a marvelous musician and a good man. Honestly Frank Sr. was much harsher with the media. Everyone thinks this is bad? Really? People overreact way too much these days. I say good for Frank Jr. Keep up the fine work.
Thank you Shane.I was lucky enough to see him right before he left this world and the performance was a 10.I was blown away.Fantastic.He did absolutely nothing wrong here as it was obvious it wasn't much of an interview and frankly he does not look well.
Agreed. He answered all the questions that he directly had knowledge of. I think he was likely not feeling too well, sadly he only had about 8 months of life left. Kathie and Hoda were clearly trying to get him to talk about his father and were I guess put off by his reticence. Wonder if they felt bad about slamming him when he passed only a few months later?
Frank Jr doesn’t seem very happy lol RIP Frank and Frank Jr
It appears she obviously got irritated at him at his first answer because she kept directing each subsequent question with a hard “Frank “ indicating she wanted him to answer the question.
We just had a party \ dinner for my nephews 16 th birthday, he,s a guitarist in a garage band( the usual suspects). And he loves frank !
It's obvious Frank was not interested in answering stupid questions or ones he could not answer himself.
Well at least he wasn't being overly fake like others are on the show. His personality isn't smiling and happy obviously. Not everyone is "on" for the show. He seems very serious and stoic and honest in his answers.
is there any photos of frank jr cracking a smile
Hundreds.
That was the worst? That wasn't so bad at all.
Hoda called it her worst interview ever. Is it because the guest didn't fawn over her or laugh at her jokes?
No, probably because he looked at acted miserable and made the entire interview uncomfortable. If every interview was like this, most people wouldn’t watch these. Try and understand the interviewers perspective for just a moment and realize how difficult he made this for them, you can see in the interaction.
@@papermelon Try and understand that Hoda is all woke up, therefore exceptionally thin skinned, hyper critical of anyone outside of her tribe, even more narcissistic than her interviewees, and in pole position to get the last mean little jab in...that's their profile, Paper Thin.
@@stevenspitts7877 true, but because of their show tv faces, most people refuse to understand why they might be frustrated. I’m not denying that they are fake plastered personalities sometimes, but even then look at how Obstinate and blatantly rude the guest is. Their career is focused on looking charismatic and making other people they interview look the same. It’s just rude to show up on someone else’s tv show, despite who the interviewer is, and intentionally make it awkward and unexciting. The only way that would be acceptable is if the interviewer is being rude first and asking inappropriate questions, but that did not happen here. They were kind and polite, and trying to promote the guest’s personalities. If they were gonna be A holes, they should have just not come. I don’t expect celebrities to act greater than other people, I expect them to act just like normal people. And it would be expected for any decent normal person to come on the show and behave kindly and charismatically. He, intentionally, did not. And I don’t personally think there’s any valid excuse for that.
Am I the only one who sees literally zero problems with this interview? It’s a TINY bit slow/awkward but that’s kinda it.
Kathie Lee made him smile....I think....
This cracked me up. Frank Jr is a peice of work.
LOL.. Mr. Personality. Yeah I can see why Hoda said what she said. He comes off as very cold. How many people came because of Hoda's comment? LOL
Walker I just did (lol). I just haaaaad to see what the "fuss" was all about from lil ole Hoda. : )

Kathie Lee Gifford embarrassed Frank jr, by calling it the worst interview she ever did. She should look in the mirror first before insinuating it was juniors fault and laughing on national tv the next day about how bad it was. Classless... no wonder Gifford left her.

What the heck was w FSJ? Come on man be nice at least.
Kathy Lee Gifford said publicly that this was the WORST interview she ever did.
Frank Sinatra Jr. looks dour in the close-up head shots.
If that wasnt the most awkward interview. Appears someone was beaming with life during the interview
All due respect to now the late Frank Sinatra Jr. But as clear as the day is long He was being rude. Rude and put off ish. Hoda and Kathy weren’t asking outlandish questions, they were basic questions especially when put to photographs. People need to stop making excuses for certain people in this world. We all live by standards and ethics that apply to us all no one gets a pass because of who they are or who they are related to. And if you do find excuses and reasons you have to do it for EVERYBODY! That being said He was being a prude !
Lousy interview for sure.
Frank is in pain being around KLG
Why do older people get so upset about acknowledging other holidays? Different religions have different celebrations that happen at the same time, get over it
R. A. C. I. S. M.
Frank looks like he doesn't feel well in this interview. He had obviously lost a lot of weight and just looked uncomfortable. Nobody can have a great day every day.
What an absolute stiff this guy was.
If you don't want to talk...don't get interviewed on TV hahaha
I like no-nonsense people like FSJ. Going on a brain-dead show like this was probably more torturous to him than going to the dentist.
Oh my. Watching paint dry is truly more captivating than FSJ.
Dear Lord. I bet his dad would've been pretty upset at the fact that Jr. had/has ZERO personality.
He even made me feel very uncomfortable 😕 by just watching years later.
Man! That was rough! He was unhappy with the final draft of the book, and was overruled by the rest of the family. Though he did seem pleased at the end of the interview, when Hoda and Kathy enthusiastically supported saying "Merry Christmas" against the ridiculous "political correctness" police who will scold anyone for doing that. I just watched a couple random interviews of him on RUclips, and am very impressed with his wealth of knowledge. I think the explanation for his behavior here is that over the years, he deleted all emotional function data from his neo-cortex to make room for the entire history of music in the 20th Century in his brain! (Yes, I'm joking!) ...And maybe he wasn't feeling well.
Grumpzilla
To everyone here calling Frank Jr.'s behavior "nasty", "unpleasant", etc. :
NASTY??
REALLY??
I must have missed something.
So, the guy wasn't smiling. SO WHAT? (Some here say he had cancer at the time; maybe none of us would be smiling under those conditions.)
I'm not seeing "nasty" coming from him.
In my world, "Nasty" would be characterized by things like being totally negative, unreasonably defensive, ruthless, devious, aggressive, combative, foul-mouthed (having to bleep every other word), and basically, being a complete dickhead, etc., etc., etc.. I didn't see anything even NEARLY approaching all of that coming from Frank Jr. here. He appears to perhaps be somber--for whatever reason--but "NASTY"? I don't see it.
Okay, so he's not all bubbly like a 13-year-old girl who just got kissed by her teen idol.
Why is that being interpreted as "Nasty" by some?
I wonder what you would call behavior that TRULY IS NASTY........
Anon Amust yea you missed it...
Who asked?
Joseph Forman,
Well, what I DIDN’T miss was Jr. answering questions that he was asked, and doing so gracefully and with sufficient elaboration.
Did YOU miss that?
What more than THAT was anyone expecting from the guy?..........

He didn't look very well. Probably felt the same way.
Frank Jr appears to have lost some weight as well as personality since last I saw him.
He was sick

He looks awful and grumpy - and very defensive - hoda you can tell with her tone and uh hm says a lot
But what do u expect
His dad was too busy touring when he was young so he grew up grumpy
no excuse, he was a grown man and famous so he should’ve known how to act instead of being dismissive and rude
Frank Jr. is not enthusiastic about the interview and the topic. It was like forced into him.

Frank Jr. Looked very ill here. 😒
He was. If I recall correctly, he died a few months after this interview.
RIP Frank Jr. I love at the end of this that Frank talks about It is a shame you got to be politically correct about Christmas saying Happy Holidays now. Thankfully it seems every one is starting to say Merry Christmas more the Happy Holidays again.
that's the only part of the interview he smiled, when Kathie Lee agreed with him about saying, "Merry Christmas."
When you hate life and life hates you back. Bitterness & Pain Jr. Thankfully there are very few of these in society. They tend to stay out of the public.
Frank looked unwell here. It probably was not long before he died. Later Kathy said unkind things about him. Said it was the worst interview she'd ever done. How rude of her. Drunken sow.
Frank jr never got on great with he’s father,so you can see he don’t look up for this

your speaking of Frank Senior aren't you? Cause it wasn't Frank Jr.
That is Frank Sinatra Sr., not Frank Sinatra Jr.
It was not that bad - you both behaved in a silly, unprofessional manner and him directing the explanation to the one who knows exactly why, isn't terrible. You are truly silly women.

I think aglets are more interesting than Frank Jr.
I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until he blew it at the end with that grumpy old white guy Christmas snark. The heck was that? Maybe he's sick? He looks like he's lost a ton of weight?
i think he got out of cancer treatment recently i heard idk though for sure
He should have been his own person instead of riding his father's coat tails. He might have been a lot happier and found fulfillment in his life

What a bore he was.
Geez, Frank, if you're going to be this unpleasant and nasty, why show up? You did your dad a disservice.
old and senile is an excuse
His manager forced him to do this interview. Frank Sinatra Jr. had cancer at the time and was therefore in severe and constant pain. He died just a few months after the interview.
Why was he so nasty?? No wonder KLG said it was the worst interview ever
It was the two homely hosts who didn't prepare for the interview.
If they'd prepared, they would't have asked for childhood memories and shown him that Christmas picture while saying that the holidays must have been great. His father was never home. Christmas must have been very painful for him as a child; those probably weren't his fondest memories.
Holy cow, was he on something.
Frank Jr can’t stand the Liberals!! Love that he brought up Christmas 🎄
