1:06 - "Robert Fripp discovers the Internet Troll..." I just recently discovered King Crimson, and perhaps the thing I enjoy most is the blend of unconventional creativity and conflicting time signatures that seem to weave in and out of each other. Also, in another, much earlier commentary by Robert Fripp, I do have to agree that Michael Giles was perhaps one of the most skilled drummers to hit the airwaves. I like the Old Crimson and I do enjoy the more recent versions. And, in truth, it's intriguing to experience a band that has gone under so many different changes and lineups. One might say that King Crimson is hyper-evolutionary.
i don’t understand how someone could be lucky enough to see King Crimson perform in this era and be anything other than grateful. Their performance at the Fox Theatre a few weeks ago was beyond words, feelings, anything. There could’ve been no sound coming from the musicians and it still would’ve been mesmerizing to witness. Amazing production, amazing musicians, amazing minds, effort, and soul being put into Crimson, and we’re here for it! Thank you Mr. Fripp for all of the endless creativity.
Exactly 40 years ago, I saw King Crimson at the Shrine in L.A. Now, 40 years later (and with the same friends) I saw them again, full circle. I feel privileged to share in the artistry of Mr. Fripp and the band. It's their vision, their talent and our good fortune. (For those who know, Rachel Flowers was there Tue. nite and loved the show.) Thanks again to the Crims for all the years of great music and esp. to Robert Fripp.
I came with positivity, this Saturday night, and was rewarded both positively (by a wonderful ensemble playing astonishing music) and negatively (by someone whose privilege in buying a ticket included standing and blocking the view for others). The positive, I am happy to say, greatly outweighed the negative, and a wonderful time was had by myself and my dear friend with whom I was lucky enough to attend this next-to-final 2014 gig. Thank you to Mr. Fripp and the whole band and crew for providing us with not only entertainment but joy.
Mr. Fripp, I Just want to thank you for taking the leap into active duty again. I've had the pleasure of participating in various forms of Crimson since 1994 and have enjoyed every one of them. Crim's recent shows in Chicago were a musical highlight. Again, thank you!
Spot on RF! I've enjoyed all the live show as well as the recorded material since I heard my sister playing the first album the 70's. Each line-up is an evolutionary step forward, exposing new, uncharted ground to explore, even when playing music from the past. Can't wait till the Elements tour CD's are available, so I can relive the joy of that evening in Philadelphia.
Dear Mr. Robert Fripp I saw hundreds of bands but King Crimson in New York City ( Sep 18, 2014) was the best concert I've ever been to. I will never forget that evening. Thank you so much !
I was in olympia in 72 and saw King crimson , it was a great musical experience , full of emotion, and I followed King Crimson, and had the chance to see you dear Robert , several times with KC. I saw you in the PALAIS DES CONGRèS in 2000. It was an amazing experience. K C is for me the ultimate form of strange , melodic , dark and mysterious , nostalgic, magical MUSIC. Thanks for all dear Robert , you're a so inventive , unpredictable, melodic and strange musician.
Robert, I wish KC had come closer to where I live. The set list sounds like a dream for any KC fan. Hopefully there will be more tour dates in the future. I hope at least a DVD will be released of this tour. Focus on the positive and don't let negative people with agendas bring you down.
The Power to believe is the most incredible mind-blowing album of the band and in the music history! Keep playing! Me and my friends from Siberia, Russia, love your art.
This man has had an incredible influence in our lives by creating with his fellows such an amazing set of songs from the 70's that have blown our minds for hours and hours in our worlds. Can't stop listening to the tunes!!! Thank you Mr. Fripp for giving me the chance to know you (at least on Video) and enjoy your artistic creations. Thank you indeed!
czgibson Mr. Fripp's hands are how he creates his art. Do you think he would risk having someone injure one of them by possibly fracturing the bones in a handshake? I know someone personally who asked Robert Fripp to shake his hand and he declined. It is understandable and not mean at all.
This passed September I saw KC at the Greek Theater In LA. It was the ONLY TIME I EVER SAW them. And I was BEYOND SATISFIED. A magical evening without a doubt
dearest father of light....thank you for returning...you have been missed greatly from this environ known as earth......life is more ....livable with KC rearranging electrons.......blessed and beloved
Don't bother the comments Mr. fripp, I was in Stuttgart, and I liked every second of it. Schizoid Man might be 47 year old but still sounds modern or better timeless. Thank you Mr. Fripp to giving us the opportunity to get so see King Crimson. I will never forget this concert👍🏼
I was so lucky to catch King Crimson twice, the first time in Turin during the Lark's Tongues in Aspic tour and it was nothing short of epic, for as much I love many different incarnations of the band for me that line up was pure magic and the second time on pair with Roxy Music in Milan 1981. After the Crimso played I managed to go backstage and had the pleasure to watch Roxy Musiv on the left of the stage with Mr. Fripp on my right side, I was literally elated to rubbing shoulders with him. There was the two of us watching the Roxy show and wow! What a moment!
We saw the current Crimson last September in Nashville and it was fantastic! The band played an excellent gig with precision and enthusiasm and my wife and I were very satisfied with the experience. Hopefully we'll see you again in the near future.
One of the most enjoyable experiences of my life was a one man show by Mr Fripp at Caper's Corner Records in Kansas City, Kansas, late 1970's. He played while we sat on the floor or whatever. The merchandise bins were pushed against the wall. And at the end of the show he answered questions, signed stuff, generally interacted with people. I was profoundly ignorant about KC and the music at the time. After that show nothing was ever the same for me.
Thank you very much for returning to active service. You could be enjoying your time with Toyah and your rabbit but nevertheless you leap into the breach with like minded conspirators and I am happy to witness this.
I went last night with few expectations, but high hopes. My hopes were thoroughly exceeded. This instantly became my new favorite configuration of KC, supplanting the Wetton/Bruford/Cross and Double Trio configurations. Which is saying a lot. The one thing I would say that was slightly different than I expected was the apocalyptic FORCE that was brought forth. This is a HEAVY Crimson. Think Red - dark, ominous, not to be denied but simply to be absorbed on its own terms. Possibly the best concert I have ever been a part of. Words fail.
I have been a concertgoer for 40 years, and I can honestly say that the end-of-the-tour show in Seattle was the best concert I have ever attended. My wife who has never seen KC and barely heard any, also said the same. We were stunned. No spectacle, just the music and it's players. Starless brought me to tears...
I have been lucky enough to see Crim in concert more than a few times (since their Discipline tour in 1980) ... including Philadelphia last month. Not only have I taken the leap, I've jumped in head first.
As some who has seen this show multiple times I can honestly say there is nothing predictable about it. And the stars of the show, the front line drummers, is as fascinating as it is entertaining. Heck, I almost injured my neck trying to keep up with everything going on. I delight for the eyes and the ears. I hope one day there will be a document of this so that those who were not fortunate enough to see the tour can also enjoy.
I saw the Elements show @ the Warfield in San Francisco on 4 October. While I am aware that this was King Crimson mainly revisiting their 70's material, for me it was an awesome show, and many of the songs they played I probably would have never heard live in person otherwise. I went to this with the belief that this would be the last opportunity I would have to see them live, since Fripp is pushing 70. This was King Crimson @ its best, and the three drummer concept made sense once i actually saw them play. Can't wait for the tour Cd's to come out. I will definitely be on the lookout for whatever they release!
I say most positively ... thank you Robert Fripp for everything you have brought forth in the past and continue to bring forth in our futures. Life without brave and committed men like yourself would be exhausting and a complete waste of energy to pursue.
Robert - The last 2 tours in north america have been nothing short of incredible. The music has been transformed with the new line up (different than 70's era Crim - but just as powerful) My son and i have seen 2 shows with this line up and will be in NYC in November. Cant Wait! if you're taking requests.....would love to hear more from SABB (fracture!)
Saw you guys playing in Stockholm last Saturday, it was one of my best concerts and I've been on a lot of them. Really hope i can see you guys again although it might be a bit too much to wish for.
It's not an understatement to say that hearing "In the Court.." was a life-changing event for many of us, some 40+ years ago. It's simply incredible that a band in such constant turmoil, reconstruction, re-invention- from even before its inception- right through to the present day- can still speak to the soul while staying on the cutting edge with musical technology, and at times even now, continue to astound our senses.
King Crimson (and Robert) is pure brilliance and engaging on so many levels. Some critics are just bad intentioned or unwilling to invest into understanding this (which requires an open mind).
For sure people that think that about Crimson don't know anything about music or about the actual band. Thank you for your music and specially thank you for the AWESOME CONCERTS IN MÉXICO CITY.
Best band in the world. They have been my favorite for over 30 years since I her them as. Teen. There is no one else doing this quality of works and they still sound excellent. I just saw to of the dates for their 50th anniversary (Boston, Philly) both nights, incredible.
I take the leap. For years. You have made beautiful music during my life and life of many. Never get distracted, never stop. World needs beautiful music. Thank you for all created so far and all to come. ((since I've been so nice, I would like to ask you a favour: please play some of the Giles, Giles, Fripp masterpieces, please)
Nicely put Robert, I was at Hackney last night up in the gods, and a monitor was hiding you away, but thank you for poking your head around at the end of the show. I was enthralled by the set, and yeah I was thinking very complex, and difficult to do. In the end it was done well enough to want more. Hope to see you again :)
I've been an absolute fan of all the changing forms of king crimson, I love the 1973 King crimson and the 2017 King crimson, music of KING CRIMSON will be always be Strange and Mysterious.. Keep the mystery dear Robert
Robert, I love every incarnation of King Crimson. I have my personal favorites, which is likely due to past experience and association, not any objective evaluation of the art; but that is my subjective relationship with the music in my distinct life journey. It is now 4 1/2 years after the release of this video and I have seen & heard a number of live and rehearsal moments from the latest King Crimson 'collective' or 'way of doing things' (unfortunately not in in person - I've only seen KC once in 2000 or 2001 at the House of Blues in New Orleans). The latest lineup and repertoire has been a source of enjoyment, amazement and wonder; the 'new' songs, the 'old' songs, the 'improvs' and the musicians have again proved (to me at least) that the KC 'Way of Doing Things' is as healthy and productive as ever. Actually, it is outstanding. You and the KC Way is a musical treasure to humanity; it has changed my life in ways uncounted; as sheer aural enjoyment, musical inspiration and increased interest in the ideas and works of G. I. Gurdjieff, Ouspensky and Bennett, whom my college piano teacher D Draper first told me about. If KC sees fit to create a studio record of the recent material / lineup that would be wonderful. And if you choose to perform again in or near New Orleans, I will again be right there in the front!
Bob looks very dapper here. (As usual...!!) ------------------------------------------------ I loved your show at Best Buy Theatre, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014.... And I look forward to hopefully seeing many more concerts. (And loved the playing of the two songs off of "Islands", too ... with Jakko's lead singing: very spirited) All in all, the concert was thrilling, and very enjoyable: quite a gift for a Crimson fan.
I wish this line-up a long and fulfilling life. Saw the Crimson show at Hackney Empire this Tuesday. Easily one of the best concerts I went to. Fresh, powerful and innovative...these old songs have been born again.
I would love to see your current incarnation whenever you make it down to the Tampa bay area here on the west coast of Florida.... our weather here is always beautiful ..I look forward to this event as I visualize it in my mind.....
Saw Crimso at The Warfield in SF and loved loved loved the drummers 3 and Mel Collins and the rest of the lads. Interesting that it was primarily instrumental and comprised of older material I'd never thought I'd hear live, but rearranged and reinterpreted. Wow, like Thelonius Monk playing his 40's material in the 60's and making it sound new. Hella amazing!
Saw Crimson in NYC on this past tour. Was tremendous, and the three drummers format was very exciting to watch and listen to. Yes, the setlist were "classics", but at no point did it seem stale or predictable. The pacing of the setlist was also finely constructed, as it operated on a 45-degree trajectory until its final culmination at the end (finale) of the show. Many new elements to the old tunes. Was terrific.
Thank you Mr. Fripp for remaining cool and thoughtful in smacking down detractors. My wife and I were at the last of three shows in Toronto last week. It was a privelege to watch artists at the height of their ability and skill perform so perfectly. If people want to see the same show or line up as KC in the'80's, ( the last time i saw KC) , they should perhaps consider switching genres to maybe something a little more, um, popular.
Well I have one request. Keep playing and come to Austin Texas! Soon! Much as I have a warm place in my heart for all the prog rock bands I grew up on in the 1970's, there is only one that is continuing to put out NEW high quality music, with awesome musicianship. That would be King Crimson.
Mr. Fripp, Thank you for this message. Though, I'm surprised that there are any who follow Krimson and still haven't taken the leap. P.S. Please come to Atlanta in 2015
His way of looking at the world is clearly very different. But that's good---we need more people with different views like this. Always innovating. Good stuff :D
A KingCrimson show may be the only rock concert that needs to come with instructions. I was present at a show in Albany for my most recent hot date and enjoyed every moment.
I used to think the 73 line up was the definitive line up as that is the point where I jumped on. Seeing the 73 line up live was quite an experience for a 14 year old. Nowadays I think of all that is Crimson not in segments, but as fifty years of an extraordinary and *genuine* evolution.
Do you expect to tour the States again, in 2016 or 2017 ...? Would love to see you again... My brother and I went in Sept of 2014... and loved the mix of the elder material with the new.
Sir, I have listened to King Crimson for many many years and still continue to notice new layers of magic. I wish there was a way to rid the internet of trolls. I would hope that you would realize that for every troll there’s a hundred people like me drumming along with Frame by Frame playing in my head all day.
Sadly there are curmudgeons that as they age, their dispositions become cranky. Only gripe I have is not being close to a venue so that I can experience KC as is in 2014. That King Crimson is on the road again is wonderful. That it is not 1973 should be obvious to all. KC has morphed so many times that I find it amazing that someone could describe a period that exemplifies KC at all. That has always been the magic. Every album is unique and a gem that stands on it's own. Fripp is the only constant and he embraces change. So there. Enjoy and be happy with now.
Life is strange. This reserved, soft-spoken Englishman created some of the most intense, passionate, and original music of the 20th Century.
"Predictable" and "easy" are terms I would never associate with any incarnation of King Crimson, especially the current one.
Zach Johnson Um... I think the incarnations with Belew after "Discipline" were pretty predictable. But I'm loving this line-up.
@@yogurt8740 Predictable?...

RF can see even with his closed eyes...☺️☺️☺️.
One of my all time favourite Progressive Rock Band.✌️✌️!!
Forget the haters. There will always be critics. Make art brother! Love King Crimson
Probably the last person on earth who should be trolled

No you won't!

I don't think he lives in Wimborne anymore cz. I'm sure he will visit so adjust your improbabilty drive.

stormtrooper62 couldn’t he have just gone for the loose shake?
Mr. Fripp, you are truly an inspiration. Your music change my life. Send you a big hug from Chile.

King Crimson has always been about emotion and good will.
Congrats on being such a positive force!
Good to see the band together again, in whatever form they choose. Cheers for the new DGM channel, too, and Mr. Fripp's always-thoughtful commentary.

Your a bloody nice bloke Robert and King Crimson are a very technical band with excellent musicians like yourself Robert.

Saw NYC night #3 at Best Buy.....absolutely one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever seen, period. Long live the Krim!
Bob looks very dapper here. (As usual...!!)

I loved your show at Best Buy Theatre, Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014....
And I look forward to hopefully seeing many more concerts.

All in all, the concert was thrilling, and very enjoyable: quite a gift for a Crimson fan.
Great show, worth every penny.
I wish this line-up a long and fulfilling life. Saw the Crimson show at Hackney Empire this Tuesday. Easily one of the best concerts I went to. Fresh, powerful and innovative...these old songs have been born again.
Please come to Brazil!
B-Brazil!?
Been on board since Court of the Crimson King 😎👍
😎👍❤🖖
Haha - Robert Fripp is the man. Really bummed I couldn't make it to this tour - I hope like hell they put out a new album!
I've been enjoying your work since 1970. Please keep it up, and disregard the trolls.
Robert Fripp, you are a hero.
Robert Fripp's way of addressing the internet, so eloquent and british, rock on
Thank you Mr.

Mr. Fripp,
Thank you for this message. Though, I'm surprised that there are any who follow Krimson and still haven't taken the leap.
P.S. Please come to Atlanta in 2015
Well said, Robert!!!
We saw you in Salford. It was quite remarkable. Sheffield.
I do hope the boys will be treading the boards in the UK soon.
Thank you Fripp!
I'd sit and listen for days
FRIPP and King Crimson ...unlike any others and AMAZING !
His way of looking at the world is clearly very different. But that's good---we need more people with different views like this. Always innovating. Good stuff :D
Hello Robert
A KingCrimson show may be the only rock concert that needs to come with instructions. I was present at a show in Albany for my most recent hot date and enjoyed every moment.
I used to think the 73 line up was the definitive line up as that is the point where I jumped on. Seeing the 73 line up live was quite an experience for a 14 year old. Nowadays I think of all that is Crimson not in segments, but as fifty years of an extraordinary and *genuine* evolution.
Best show ever, easily.
What was that incredible music at the very end? 2:41
Do you expect to tour the States again, in 2016 or 2017 ...?
Would love to see you again... My brother and I went in Sept of 2014...
and loved the mix of the elder material with the new.
I hope you comming soon in Europe !!
Amen Robert.
when touring Europe?????????????????????????????????? just can't wait!!
